Electrical Requirements
WARNINGTo prevent an electric shock hazard, the power supply must meet the specifications stated below. It is the owner’s responsibility to make sure that the electrical service meets electrical require-ments and that the electrical outlet has been properly installed.◊ The cooktop is supplied with a factory installed, 40-inch, three-prong,
grounding electrical plug. It is connected to the chassis at the bottom right rear corner (see Chassis Bottom Diagram below). It must be connected to a dedicated, grounded three-prong electrical outlet installed by a licensed electrician.
◊ The electrical installation, including minimum supply wire size and grounding, must be done in accordance with National Electric Code ANSI/NFPA 70* and local codes and ordinances. A copy of this standard may be obtained from:
National Fire Protection Association 1 Batterymarch Park Quincy, Massachusetts 02269-9101
◊ The correct voltage, frequency and amperage must be supplied to the electrical outlet according to the product data label located on the bottom of the chassis. See the Gas and Electrical Requirements table on this page for reference.
◊ Be certain to locate the electrical outlet so that the power cord may be easily disconnected if the unit needs service.
Gas Supply Requirements◊ Be certain that the cooktop being installed is correct for the gas
service being provided (natural gas or LP gas). Also, if operating the cooktop at an altitude above 4000 ft. (1219 m) make sure it is equipped for high altitude operation.
◊ Units equipped for LP operation have “LP” in the model number listed on the product data label. See the Chassis Bottom Diagram for label location.
◊ Units equipped for high altitude operation have an “H” at the end of the model number listed on the product data label.
◊ Check your local building codes for the proper method of installation. In the absence of local codes, this appliance should be installed in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54.
◊ An external manual shut-off valve must be installed between the gas inlet and the cooktop for the purpose of turning on or shutting off gas to the appliance.
◊ The cooktop comes from the factory with a regulator in the shipping carton. Use only the regulator provided. The regulator must be installed in the gas line that runs from the cooktop gas inlet to the gas shut off valve.
◊ Models SGM304 and SGM365 come with a 1/2” regulator. Model SGM466 comes with a 3/4” regulator, approved for connection to a 1/2” house gas supply.
The cooktop gas connection is located on the bottom of the cootktop in the back right corner as you face the front of the unit. See the Chassis Bottom Diagram on this page.

◊ The gas supply piping, gas shut-off valve and the electrical outlet must be located so they do not interfere with the cooktop when it is installed. If installing another appliance in the cabinet below, allow for the routing of gas and electrical service behind it.
The installation must allow for the following:
◊ Access to the gas shut-off valve and regulator when the unit is installed.
◊ Access to the electrical outlet when the cooktop is in place. The 40” (101.6 cm) power cord must be able to reach the electrical outlet
◊ Access to the underside of the cooktop for service and inspection purposes
◊ Clearance inside the cabinet to allow for proper hold down bracket installation.
To allow access to the utilities and cooktop bottom, a fixed shelf should not be installed below the cooktop. See the following pages for countertop cutout dimensions.

Gas and Electrical Service ■ The shaded area (diagram bottom left) denotes the location of
the gas inlet and the electrical junction box/receptacle. This is the recommended location. For replacement purposes, the location of the existing utilities may be utilized provided they do not interfere with the sides or rear of the range. Check local building codes for permissible gas valve and electrical locations.
■ An external manual shut-off valve must be installed between the gas inlet and the range, for the purpose of turning on or shutting off gas to the appliance.
The installation must allow for the following: ■ Access to the gas shut-off valve when the unit is installed.
■ Access to the remote circuit breaker panel/fuse box, when the range is in place.
■ The gas supply piping and shut-off valve, and the electrical junction box/receptacle must be located so they do not interfere with the range when it is installed.
■ The junction box and gas shut off valve must be located so that the range can be pulled out for service while the appliance remains connected.

Gas and Electrical Service ■ The shaded area shown below denotes the location of the gas inlet
and the electrical junction box/receptacle. This is the recommended location. For replacement purposes, the location of the existing utilities may be utilized provided they do not interfere with the sides or rear of the range. Check local building codes for permissible gas valve locations.
■ An external manual shut-off valve must be installed between the gas inlet and the range for the purpose of turning on or shutting off gas to the appliance.
The installation must allow for the following: ■ Access to the gas shut-off valve when the unit is installed.
■ Access to the remote circuit breaker panel/fuse box when the range is in place.
■ The gas supply piping, gas shut-off valve and the electrical junction box or receptacle must be located so they do not interfere with the range when it is installed.
■ The junction box and gas shut off valve must be located so that the range can be pulled out for service while the appliance remains connected.
Cabinet Layout ■ Carefully check the location where the range is to be installed. For
best performance, the range should be placed away from drafts that may be caused by doors, windows and heating and air conditioning outlets.
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury and to reduce accumulated smoke in the room, Dacor strongly recommends installing a range hood. A range hood should project horizontally a minimum of five (5) inches beyond the face of the cabinets.
■ All maximum and minimum dimensions and clearances shown in the diagram below must be maintained for safe operation.
■ The range may be installed flush to the rear wall. A non-combustible rear wall is not mandatory, but Dacor highly recommends installing a non-combustible material from the countertop level up to the vent hood or installation of a backguard.
■ Any openings in the wall behind the appliance or in the floor underneath it must be sealed.

Duct Planning Guide
DUCT PLANNING GUIDEDocument # PG06 - 001 Revised 10/21/09 Page 1/1
WARNING• All blowers, hoods and raised vents must be installed in
accordance with the accompanying installation instructions.• Observe all governing codes and ordinances during planning
and installation. Use only duct work deemed acceptable by state, municipal and local codes and by the installation instructions. Contact your local building department for further information.
• To prevent combustion by-products, smoke or odors from entering the home and to improve efficiency, tape all duct joints securely.
• Hoods and vents may interrupt the proper flow of smoke and combustion gases from furnaces, gas water heaters and fireplaces. To avoid drawing lethal gases into the home, follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for these devices and consult NFPA and ASHRAE recommendations.
• Improper installation may result in a back draft and/or the insufficient venting of smoke and fumes.
• For hoods or raised vents equipped with integral blowers, DO NOT install an additional in-line or external blower to increase the length of the duct run. For hoods or raised vents not equipped with integral blowers, DO NOT install more than one in-line or external blower. Even small differences between blower air flow rates can greatly reduce the air draw.
• To reduce the risk of fire and to properly exhaust air, be sure to duct air outside the house or building. Do not vent exhaust air into spaces within walls or ceilings or into attics, crawl spaces or garages.
General Design Requirements◊ All duct work materials (including screws and duct tape) must be
purchased separately by the customer. When planning new duct work, always look for the shortest, most direct route to the outside. Some models can accommodate venting (and/or wiring) through the back.
◊ To prevent a back draft, never decrease the duct size over the run. If existing duct work is smaller than 8 inches in diameter, remove it and replace it with 8" round, 10" inch round or 3 1/4" x 10" duct work. Do not use duct work that is smaller in cross-sectional area than these recommended types. Do not use flexible metal duct.
◊ Do not rely on tape alone to seal duct joints. Fasten all connections with sheet metal screws and tape all joints with certified silver tape or duct tape. Use sheet metal screws as required to support the duct weight.
◊ To prevent back-drafts, a damper at the duct outlet may also be required.
◊ Make sure duct work does not interfere with floor joists or wall studs.
◊ On dual exhaust models, the two 8” exhausts may be merged into one 10” duct using a Dacor transition kit. See the installation instructions for details.
◊ With concrete slab construction, "box-in" the duct work to prevent it from collapsing when the wet concrete is poured. Also allow room for electrical conduit.
Calculating the Maximum Duct Run Length◊ The maximum straight duct length is determined by the type of
hood or raised vent installed and type of duct used. See the hood or raised vent specifications for the maximum duct run for the desired configuration.
◊ To determine the actual length the duct work cannot exceed, subtract all of the equivalent lengths of the elbows and transitions listed below from the maximum straight duct run from the hood/raised vent specifications. After determining that your proposed duct work meets the maximum duct length requirement, proceed with the location planning.
Equivalent LengthsPiece Subtract Piece Subtract

3 ¼” X 10" 90°flatelbow 20 feet
Roof cap * Wall cap with damper *
* The equivalent lengths of roof and wall caps vary with model and configuration. For equivalent length, contact the manufacturer or a qualified HVAC specialist.
Duct Work Design Tips◊ Wherever possible, reduce the number of transitions and turns to as
few sharp angles as possible. Two staggered 45° angles are better than one 90°.
◊ If multiple elbows are used, try to keep a minimum of 24” straight duct between them. Avoid “S” or “back to back” use of adjacent elbows.
◊ Keep turns as far away from the hood or raised vent exhaust as possible, and as much space between bends as possible.
◊ For best performance, use round duct instead of rectangular, especially when elbows are required.
◊ Cross-drafts or air currents caused by adjacent open windows or doors, HVAC outlets, ceiling fans and recessed ceiling lights reduce vent efficiency.

Duct Work Design Tips ■ Wherever possible, reduce the number of transitions and turns to as
few sharp angles as possible. Two staggered 45° angles are better than one 90°. Keep turns as far away from the hood exhaust as possible, with as much space between each bend as possible.
■ For best performance, use round duct instead of rectangular when possible, especially when elbows are required.
■ If multiple elbows are used, try to keep a minimum of 24” of straight duct between them. Avoid “S” or “back to back” configurations of adjacent elbows.
■ Do not use flexible metal duct.
Calculating the Maximum Duct Run Length ■ Do not use duct work that is smaller in cross-sectional area than the
required duct sizes in the table to the right.
■ For best performance, keep the duct run as short as possible and never exceed the maximums stated at the right.
■ The maximum straight duct length for the raised vent system depends on the model of remote or in-line blower used with the vent system and the number of elbows and transitions used. The Equivalent Number of Feet for each elbow and transition (see table) must be subtracted from the maximum straight length to compensate for wind resistance. To determine the maximum allowable length of the duct work, subtract all of the equivalent lengths of the elbows and transitions from the Blower Maximum Duct Straight Length.
For example, for a raised vent system using 3 1/4” X 10” rectangular duct, two (2) 3 1/4” X 10” 90° elbows, a 3 1/4” X 10” rectangular to 10” round transition, and a REMP16 remote blower:
■ From the Blower Maximum Duct Straight Length table, the maximum length without transitions and elbows is 60 feet.
■ The equivalent length of each 90° elbow is 15 feet.
■ The equivalent length of 45° elbow is 2 feet.
■ The equivalent length of the transition is 4 feet.
■ The total equivalent length of the above components is: 15 feet + 15 feet + 4 feet + 2 feet = 36 feet.
■ The maximum amount of straight duct that can be used with a REMP16 and the above components is: 60 feet - 34 feet = 24 feet.

* Nominal rating at zero inches static pressure, see the CABP3 Cabinet Blower Data for actual rating.** Nominal rating at zero inches static pressure. See the blower installation instructions for actual blower rating.
■ The raised vent can be configured to exhaust through the bottom or either side:
► On installations using a remote or in-line blower, the cover plate on the appropriate side or on the bottom is removed to expose the exhaust. Configure the raised vent for bottom exhaust and use an elbow to vent through the rear cabinet wall.
► On installations using the CABP3 blower, the blower assembly is mounted to the front of the raised vent with the exhaust pointing in the desire direction. Point the exhaust down and use an elbow to vent through the rear cabinet wall.
■ When planning new duct work, always look for the shortest, most direct route to the outside. Calculate the maximum duct length (see following pages) to determine if the planned duct route will work with the blower selected.
■ On bottom exhaust installations you may cut a hole in the floor to allow the duct work to pass through.
■ All duct work materials (including screws and duct tape) must be purchased separately by the customer.
■ You can increase the duct size over the duct run if desired. To prevent a back draft, never decrease the duct size over the run.
■ Do not rely on duct tape alone to seal duct joints. Fasten all connections with sheet metal screws and tape all joints with certified silver tape or duct tape.
■ Use sheet metal screws as require to support the duct weights.
■ To prevent back-drafts, a damper at the duct outlet may also be required.
■ Make sure duct work does not interfere with floor joists or wall studs.
■ With concrete slab construction, “box-in” the duct work to prevent it from collapsing when the wet concrete is poured. Also allow room for electrical wiring from the remote blower.
■ Cross-drafts or air currents from adjacent open windows or doors, heating/air conditioning outlets, ceiling fans and recessed ceiling lights reduce vent efficiency.
Planning the Duct Work
WARNING• To reduce the risk of fire and to properly exhaust air, be sure to duct air outside the house or building. Do not vent exhaust air into
spaces within walls or ceilings or into attics, crawl spaces or garages.• Tape all duct joints securely to prevent combustion by-products, smoke or odors from entering the home. Doing so will also improve
system efficiency.• For proper operation this unit must be installed with a remote blower or internal cabinet blower. Use only one of the models
specified.• TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, USE ONLY METAL DUCT WORK. • DO NOT install more than one blower. Even small differences between blower air flow rates can greatly reduce the air draw by the
raised vent.

For example, for a raised vent system using 3 1/4” X 10” rectangular duct, two (2) 3 1/4” X 10” 90° elbows, a 3 1/4” X 10” rectangular to 10” round transition with a REMP16 remote blower:
► From the Maximum Equivalent Straight Length table, the maximum length without transitions and elbows is 60 feet.
► The equivalent length of each 90° elbow is 15 feet. ► The equivalent length of 45° elbow is 2 feet. ► The equivalent length of the transition is 4 feet. ► The total equivalent length of the above components is: 15 feet +
15 feet + 4 feet + 2 feet = 36 feet. ► The maximum amount of straight duct that can be used with a
REMP16 and the above components is: 60 feet - 34 feet = 24 feet.
