The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services (BETS) and the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma, Iowa Chapter are hosting Iowa’s 2019 Trauma Conference on August 27 & 28, 2019.
Day one of the two-day event is a pre-conference training day with opportunities for professional development and hands- on skills training. The second day focuses on clinical aspects of trauma care and emergency preparedness for healthcare and public health, and is organized into five training tracks with the following focus areas: EMS, nursing, physicians, hospital preparedness and public health preparedness. Participants may engage in any of the trainings provided in the various tracks.
Iowa’s Resident Paper competition will occur the evening of August 27. Winners of this paper competition will go on to compete at the Region VII 42nd Annual Committee on Trauma-Advances in Trauma Conference in December 2019.
Iowa’s 2019 Trauma Conference Mission and ScopeConference Mission: Provide opportunities for collaboration and education of multidisciplinary partners to ensure the optimal care of trauma patients resulting from isolated and mass casualty incidents.Conference Scope:
• Provide trauma education to enhance the knowledge of the trauma system’s workforce.• Develop strength within each system discipline and increase collaboration between system partners for coordinated response to trauma inducing incidents.• Increase knowledge within the emergency preparedness community to support coordination of emergency response to mass casualty incidents.
Intended AudienceThe intended audience for the conference includes physicians, advanced care practitioners, nurses, emergency medical services personnel, and public health and hospital emergency preparedness professionals.

VenueThe Iowa Trauma Conference will be held in the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Des Moines is the largest city in Iowa and can be easily accessed by I-35 or I-80. The Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center is part of the Iowa Events Center, and is located across the street from Wells Fargo Arena. Parking is available north of the Iowa Events Center with entrances off Third Street, Fifth Avenue and Crocker Street. Parking is available at a surface lot just north of the Convention Center; parking fee is $10 per car per day. There also is street parking surrounding the Convention Center. Several parking ramps are located downtown and connected to the Convention Center via the downtown skywalk system.

A group block has been reserved at the Hilton Des Moines Downtown, located at 435 Park Street in Des Moines, Iowa. Part of the Des Moines skywalk system, the Hilton Des Moines Downtown is the only hotel directly connected to the Iowa Events Center (including the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center). Close to downtown dining and entertainment options, this is the headquarters hotel for Iowa’s 2019 Trauma Conference. The hotel includes a pool, fitness room, baggage storage, digital key service, gift shop, room service, restaurant, business center, and valet parking.
The block is secured August 26-28, 2019. The special room rate of $124 per night plus tax will be available until July 28 or until the group block is sold out, whichever comes first. A combination of one king bed rooms and two queen bed rooms are available in the block.
Parking is available onsite. Self-parking is $18 per day and valet parking is available for $25 per day. Covered parking is not available. There are also various city parking surface lots, as well as street meters near the hotel.

Participant RegistrationRegistration fees for the pre-conference training day on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, are charged by course. A boxed lunch will be provided for participants registered in the DMEP and ATLS Refresher courses. All other participants may elect to order a boxed lunch for an additional fee.

August 28, 2019 Iowa's 2019 Trauma Conference:
• Registration fee for all attendees is $65

Vendor RegistrationVendors will be located along the main concourse of the conference center. Each vendor area will include one 8’ skirted table, two chairs and a wastebasket, with pipe and drape behind each booth. Wireless internet and power will also be available. Each vendor booth includes one complimentary conference registration (including
refreshments and lunch on August 28, but beverages only on August 27). The For-Profit exhibitor fee is $500 per booth. The Non-Profit/Government Exhibitor fee is $250 per booth. Vendors may display both August 27 and 28. Additional vendor personnel may register for $65.
