Small Group – Round Table Discussions

Goal: is to: Share ideas and practicesBrainstorm new ideas and practicesUnderstand ways to overcome the challenging ideas and practicesShare ideas and practices that did not work

In small groups participants will share the one success and/or one challenge they brought for each of the following assessment topics.

Each group will prepare two large Post-Its Each Table will share no more that 3 ideas or ways used to overcome a challengeEach Table will share no more that 3 successfully implemented ideas in at least two – but

hopefully three *if time permits of the following areas:- Professional Development- Institutional Practices- Embracing SLOs in the Classroom- Faculty Involvement- Assessment Tools

Dr. Pacheco, Dean of Planning, Research and Grants and Accreditation Liaison Officer at MiraCosta College in Oceanside has extensive experience in the area of assessment. He serves community colleges throughout the state of California to establish and implement effective assessment strategies. Dr. Pacheco facilitates training and is a prolific author. His service as the Assessment Chair of the Research and Planning Group of California includes a number of initiatives to assist colleges in the implementation of meaningful assessment and student learning outcome program components. Assessment is a part of institutional effectiveness, accreditation and effective reviews of student learning. Dr. Pacheco is unique in that he accomplishes leading assessment responsibilities at MiraCosta College, travels extensively to assist others in the implementation of student learning outcome and assessment programs, and trains the next generation of educational leaders as an adjunct professor at California State University, Fullerton.
