• In order to understand what we should expect in 2018 – we have to understand what trends evolved in 2017 and how we’ve seen players react to similar trends in the past.

Introducing Local Service Ads• Local Service Ads make it easy to
connect consumers to trusted local
professionals.
• Local Service Ads will appear
above Paid Search ads and organic
results.
• An advertiser can show for LSAs,
PPC ads, and Organic listings on
the same SERP.
17
Local Service Ads• Local service ads are
eligible to show for relevant searches for you service, such as “Locksmiths near me”, “Locked out”, “Replace home locks”, etc.
• No keywords to manage.
18
Local Service Ads• After clicking on an ad,
they will be asked about what service they need and where they need it.
• If the advertiser supports the service and location, they’ll be able to call or message them.
• If they don’t, they be referred to advertisers that do.

Voice Search goes Mainstream
• On Friday, Google shared that Google Assistant is on more than
400 milliondevices!
24
Preparing for Voice Search
• Spoken Language is different. People turn to voice search for answers to their questions, not matches to their keywords. Think of answering questions around “Where?”, “Who?”, “When?”, and “How?”
• Structured data, like shopping feeds and local inventory ads, will be easiest for Google to incorporate into answers. Be sure your feeds are uploaded and accurate!
• Location Matters! Voice search answers more immediate needs. Make sure your local business information (address, hours, phone number) is accurate in Google My Business.
26
Pinterest Grew A Monopoly on Visual Search• Pinterest pioneered what visual search could
do when it launched in 2010.

2016 $300 Million
2017 $600 Million
27
Search Engines Adopt Visual Search• Both Google &
Bing are experimenting with visual search today.
• Image searches may show ads!
29
Keywords Aren’t What the Used to Be• In 2015, Google
began automatically matching queries to close variants.
• In 2017, Google began serving ads when Keywords were reordered or had functional words added, removed or changed.
30
Keywords Provide Less Control Now• As a result of these changes, exact match keywords show for more
queries, meaning less control and more costs.

Automation taking Control Away!
In 2017, not only did advertisers lose a lot of control over how their keywords match to searches, but Google also took away controls allowing for how ads rotate as well!

Not All Content is a good place to be Featured
In an ever-expanding and free internet, there has been a growth in sites filled with fake information, polarizing politics, death, tragedy, and at times malicious and hateful content. In 2017, many brands discovered their ads were serving on these sites and at times had to pull their advertising.Although Google & Facebook are looking to safeguard this content, it will likely continue to get worse before it gets better.
45

Each Network has its own strength
• Google benefits from
targeting users who are
actively searching for your
keywords.
• You have a lot of control
over what keywords your
ad show, but little control
of who sees your ads.
Your Product
• Consequently, search click through rates
& conversion rates are usually very high.
47
Each Network has its own strength
• Facebook benefits from the
most sophisticated
audience targeting options
• You have a lot of control
over who sees your ads,
but they are specifically not
looking for your product in
their social feed.
• Consequently, you’ll be able to
inexpensively reach new users who may
not be searching for your product yet

Pinterest Grew A Monopoly on Visual Search• Microsoft bought LinkedIn in
2016.
• LinkedIn is one of the 5 largest social networks in the US and allows advertising targeting by demographics as well as user’s professional details such as job title, company size, education, and skills.
• If Microsoft pairs this targeting with Bing, it would be more powerful than Google’s targeting!
