Conference Information
Background and Objective
Structural fire safety has raised growing concerns in the design of
infrastructures. The "Structures in Fire" (SiF) specialized workshop series was
conceived in the late 1990's and the "First International SiF workshop" was
held in Denmark in 2000. This was followed by Inter‐national SiF workshops
that were held in New Zealand in 2002, Canada in 2004 and Portugal in 2006.
The title was then changed from workshop to conference, with the SiF
International Conference in Singapore in 2008,Michigan State University USA
in 2010 and ETH Zurich in 2012.
Following the great success of previous workshops and conferences,
TongjiUniversity was selected to host the 8th International Conference on
Structures in Fire SiF'14 in June 2014.
The main mission of SiF conferences is to provide an opportunity for
researchers and engineers to share their research, technology and expertise
with their peers at an international forum. The special features of the SiF
conference series include high quality presentations, adequate time for
presentation and discussion, single‐track sessions, specific focus on "Structures
in Fire" and affordable conference costs for participants.
Conference Themes
The focus of the conference is on the behavior of structures under fire
conditions, including the following topics:
• Numerical modeling of structures in fire
• Simple calculation methods
• Experimental studies
• Material behavior at high temperature
• Validation
• Practical applications and case studies
• Analysis of “whole structure” behavior
• Steel, concrete, masonry, timber, aluminum and composite structures
• Thermal and mechanical model interface
• Fire and thermal models for fire resistance evaluation
