CARDS, TREATS & OTHER FUN IDEAS TO MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY SWEET!

8 great valentines

animal attractionThere’s nothing tame about our fun and funky jungle-print wristbands.

To create them, cut cardboard tubes into 2-inch lengths. Snip each length open into a cuff shape. Use a stapler to attach the ends of a 31/2-inch piece of ¼-inch-wide black elastic as

shown; make sure the staple points face outward. Apply tacky glue to the outside of the cuff, then cover the cuff and the elastic ends with a 2- by 6-inch strip of animal-print felt. Let the

glue dry; trim the felt as needed. Tie on a card stock note with ribbon.

SUGGESTED MESSAGES: “I’m wild about you.” “Hi there, wild thing!” “Let’s band together.” “You’re so fierce!”

Using the template included at the end of

this booklet, cut the ear and feet shapes from card stock. Remove the paper strips from 2 Hershey’s

Kisses. Fold the feet where shown on the template, then use tacky glue to

sandwich the feet and ears between the kisses. Glue a 4-inch length of gray

yarn to the underside of the back kiss. Add googly eyes. Attach the mouse to a cheese-shaped piece of

card stock with a glue dot, then write a note.

SUGGESTED MESSAGES:“Mice to know you!”“You’re really mice.”

Write a message on a card stock tag and thread it onto ribbon. Roll the airplane template and the instructions on how to make the plane (both are at the end of this booklet) into a scroll, then tie the scroll with the ribbon and tag.

SUGGESTED MESSAGES: “You’re just plane cool.” “You make my heart soar.” “Fly high, valentine!”

Made of two chocolate Kisses and a heart-shaped set of ears, these tiny critters are

almost too cute to eat.

This paper airplane card flies incredibly well and is easy to make.

♥MORE MESSAGES:

“U R GR8”“B MINE”“I ♥ U”

To make one, use the template at the end of this booklet to trace and cut out the robot body from card stock. Fold as shown and secure it with double-sided tape.

Use more tape to add aluminum foil arms, candy eyes and feet, and other details, such as bar codes, if you like.

Personal robots may do our bidding in the future. But these adorable little inventions are already on the job, programmed to

transmit Valentine’s Day messages.

Use a red or brown permanent marker to draw a mustache or lips on red, pink, or brown craft foam. Cut out the shape. Make a hole in the foam as shown

using a small punch (we used a 1/8-inch punch), or make a tiny slit with a craft knife (adults only). Slip a wrapped lollipop through the hole. Cut a white office

label in half, write a message on it, and fold it around the lollipop stick.

jolly lolliesOur silly suckers are part treat, part toy.

Who, who wrote the book of love? Kids can compose their own after receiving this valentine.

give a hootUsing our template at the end of this booklet, trace and cut a teardrop shape from card stock or scrapbooking paper. Fold over the narrow end, then cut the owl’s forehead, as shown. Next, draw and cut eyes from white paper or card stock, then glue them to the card. Cut vertical slits about 1 inch apart near the bottom of the owl’s body and slip a pencil through them.

SUGGESTED MESSAGES:“Whoo will be my valentine?”“You are so talon-ted!”

have a ballThis sugar-free card incorporates a bounce ball for extra fun.

Cut a large heart out of black card stock. Use a craft knife (adults only) to cut a circle that’s slightly smaller than a bounce ball. (Tip: Make a few holes in scrap paper to get the right size for your ball, then use that as a template.) Add stars and planets with gel pen and write a message. Insert the ball into the hole; it should fit tightly and stay in place.

SUGGESTED MESSAGES:“You’re out of this world, valentine.” “You’re a star!” “I’ve searched the universe for a friend like you.”

catch of the dayKids can tell pals how they feel with the help of a school of Swedish fish.

Cut blue card stock into a trapezoid with a wavy top (you can use our template at the end of this booklet). Write a message on the paper. Place the paper in a 5- by 111/2-inch cellophane candy bag with a few Swedish fish, then seal it with a twist-tie. Trim the top of the bag, if needed.

♥SUGGESTED MESSAGES:“I’m glad you’re in

my school.”“It’s ofFISHial—

you’re awesome!” “I fish you

were mine.”
