7th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON KARTVELIAN STUDIES
The 7th International Symposium on Kartvelian Studies will be held at Javakhishvili Tbilisi
State University on October 17th to 22nd, 2016.
The year 2016 is significant for Kartvelian Studies and culture as it is the year of the
anniversaries of Shota Rustaveli and the founder of Tbilisi State University, Ivane Javakhishvili.
The programme of the 7th International Symposium in Kartvelian Studies will be linked to these
anniversaries and its main working theme will be ''Georgia in a context of European
Civilisation''.
The International Symposium welcomes papers on any topic relating to the Kartvelian
Studies.
Key Dates: The deadline for paper submission is 1st May, 2016. The application should
include: (1) Title of the paper; (2) Brief resume, no more than a page (400 words), brief
information about the presenter (CV). After the Symposium Programming Committee assess
submissions, the acceptance letter will be sent to the presenters no later than June 2016.
Registration fee: 50 US dollars (before 1st August). Late registration fee (from 2nd August
2016) will be 80 US dollars.
Working languages of the symposium: Georgian, English, Russian, German and French.
Registered participants should send an extended resume (1-3 pages), either in Georgian or in
English. The abstracts will be published in Symposium proceedings.
Symposium Social Programme will include a reception with the Rector of TSU, a farewell
dinner and coffee breaks before sessions as well as sightseeing events.
In case of need, foreign participants will be provided with accommodation.

International Association for the Promotion of Georgian/Kartvelian Studies.....

Academician Vladimer Papava.

Georgian/Kartvelian Studies.
The 7th International Symposium on Kartvelian Studies will be financially supported and organized
by the “The International Association for the Promotion of Georgian/Kartvelian Studies”. This is a
newly founded Association which has already supported several projects. We would also like to
inform you that “The winter school on Kartvelology - 2016”, scheduled for next year, will encourage
young people, interested in Kartvelology Studies to be involved in the sphere.
The main aim of the Association is to promote the development of Georgian Studies and to spread
information about its achievements and events both in Georgia and abroad. It aims at holding regular
International Symposia on Kartvelian Studies, local or international sessions on certain issues in this
field, facilitating publications of the Georgian and English Journal “The Kartvelology” (both printed
and electronic) as well as supporting Georgian and young specialists from overseas interested in
learning Georgian and other Kartvelian languages, It also focuses on ensuring individual lessons for
students of The Summer School as well as individual classes for the students who are interested in
the language, on promoting links with both the Kartvelology Centres and particular groups of people
living abroad and interested in Kartvelology. It also aims at propagating works of foreign
Kartvelogists etc.

similar events.

It should be noted that when holding similar international symposia and conferences that membership
of the association will be taken into account.
