7TH ANNUAL CIS IDOL TALENT SHOW HIT THE
STAGE!
Some members of the CIS
community say the CIS Idol
is their favorite evening of
the year. Last Friday night
did not disappoint. Many
students from grade 3
through grade 12 braved
the stage fright jitters and
sang, danced, and performed various entertaining numbers. The
stage was not just for the students, a good number of teachers al-
so showcased their talents —who knew Ms.
Megan could play the drums? Or that Mr.
Scott could belt out the tunes? The evening
was extremely fun, supportive and thor-
oughly entertaining. Thank you to all the
performers and to the many staff members
who assisted in organizing the show and
ensuring the evening ran smoothly. (See
Seen on Campus for more photos).
RE-ENROLLMENT 2013 A huge Thank you to the parents of CIS is due ! Your cooperation and
understanding of the need to return re-enrollment forms and deposits in
a timely manner was greatly appreciated. This year has been one of the
smoothest re-enrolments ever and it is thanks to you! The information
we gleam from this process is essential for planning for the next school
year and obtaining it efficiently makes it all a lot easier. Our office
staff have been busy processing the forms especially this past week. Their
efforts too, have been greatly appreciated. Well done, everyone!

Secondary School Headlines
CIS HOST FAMILIES NEEDED! CIS will be hosting an international basketball tournament,
the Blue Iguana Jamboree, on April 18th - April 21st in the
ARC. Families are needed to host a student or two visiting us
from our island neighbors. As was the case when our boys
and girls attended Soccerfeva in Jamaica the last three years,
guest players and coaches will be staying with host fami-
lies. Without this communal spirit of families opening their
homes, tournaments like this would not be possible. Many of
the same families who hosted our soccer players are sending
their boys over to play basketball. We greatly appreciate your
willingness to support the growing relationships we have
formed with other Caribbean schools in the region. If you are
willing to host a student or two or have some questions about
the possibility, please e-mail Ana Santos
([email protected]) in the CIS Office as soon as pos-
sible. Thank you for considering.

about how you or your company can spon-

Kirsten E. Tells us about the Cayman Islands Youth Par-liament Youth Parliament has been a very fulfilling experience. I got the chance to learn about the Cayman Island government as well as about a lot of laws that we have in place on how these laws come into play. This pro-
gram gave the youth of the Cayman Islands the opportuni-ty to express our opinions about the laws and systems and suggest solutions to the problems we have here on island. This year we chose to amend the affiliation Law and pro-pose some new educational programs.
Today, a group of CIS High School students participated in the “Minds Inspired” mathemat-ics challenge at UCCI, sponsored by DART. A variety of prizes will be awarded, including an iPad mini, iTunes gifts cards and movie tickets. Congratulations to CIS participants: Maddie H, Jordan P., Sabrina S., Hannah E., Thomas W. Results will be announced next week!
Congratulations to the CIS seniors who are currently taking the IB Visual Arts course; yesterday they videotaped their final presentations and completed their assessment. There are two areas of focus in the IB Visual Arts subject. The first is studio (practical work) and the second is the research workbook. The Visual Art program aims to teach the student about design, structure and the aesthetic devel-opment of work. The candidates must demonstrate creative and personal think-ing, feeling and interaction with their work. Take a look at some of their work on the new screen in the lobby of the ad-ministration building!

Attention 11th graders and Parents: If you are heading out on a college tour this Spring Break, this is a great arti-

SUMMER 2013 PROGRAMS During summer vacation, many students lose knowledge and skills. According to recent re-
search conducted by the Wallace Foundation (2011), by the end of summer, students perform, on average, one month behind where they left off at the end of the school year. Because many
students lose learning over the summer and some students need more time on task to master con-tent, participation in summer learning programs should mitigate learning loss and could even produce
achievement gains. Here are some exciting International Summer programs for kids:
ESPEAK- a brand new language learning program run by Mr. Dave in Malaga, Spain! This is a 2 week Spanish immer-sion Summer Camp that starts on July 29th. Students will be accommodated in Spanish families that have been per-sonally vetted, and that live a short walk from the eSPEAK academy. Excursions 6 days per week, and 2 hours of clas-ses per weekday with an experienced, qualified native teacher all included in the very special price. Contact Mr. Dave via email at [email protected] for more information or to request an application packet. Packets available pre-printed from Ms. Katie in the administration building at CIS. www.espeak.eu OXBRIDGE- summer programs in France, Spain, England, and New York for Middle and High school students. www.oxbridgeprograms.com. CENTER FOR TALENTED YOUTH (Johns Hopkins)- A wide variety of summer programs throughout the USA and in Hong Kong (and Mr. Shaun from CIS will be at the Hong Kong CTY program). http://cty.jhu.edu/summer/ SUMMER DISCOVERY: Pre-college enrichment, college prep, and business institutes for high school students. Good for some exposure to college level work and top university campuses. UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, Georgetown, New York University, Cambridge University, and even schools in Barcelona and Madrid. www.summerdiscovery.com SUMMER STUDY: Pre-college enrichment, SAT Prep Courses. Penn State, University of Colorado and Paris. International Basketball Tournament
SPONSORSHIP
It is a rare and significant occasion when students from various schools across the Caribbean
are joined together in friendly competition. Interscholastic sports are meaningful and exciting
opportunities for students as they share a common experience and learn about the lives and
culture of their peers in other countries. This event is created for the purposes of engaging in
cheerful basketball competitions and increasing international relationships among students.
Cayman International School would like to invite you to be involved as a sponsor in the 2nd
Annual Blue Iguana Jamboree International Basketball Tournament, being held at Camana
Bay’s Arts and Recreation Center (ARC) at Cayman International School on April 18-20. Teams
from the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and the Bahamas will compete in a two day basketball
tournament and participate in other events on the island.
There are 3 levels of sponsorship that businesses or individuals may be interested in:
GOLD SPONSORSHIP ($1,500) includes a business logo on the tournament
t-shirt and tournament flyers, ability to advertise with signs, banners and flyers
at the tournament, and verbal advertising by MC’s and hosts throughout the tou
nament events, and other recognitions, including acknowledgement in the CIS
newsletter.
SILVER SPONSORSHIP ($750) includes a business logo on the tournament t-shirt
and tournament flyers, and other sponsorship recognitions, including acknowledge
ment in the CIS newsletter.
BRONZE SPONSORHIP ($500) includes a business logo on the tournament flyers
and other recognitions.
Other donations (food, waters, drinks, etc.) and sponsorships (purchasing the t-
shirts, trophies, etc.) are also encouraged. Businesses wishing to set up a booth to
sell food, drinks, or other items at the event are encouraged to contact the school.
Please contact Katie Kimbro at [email protected] for more information
