Our return to God for Blessings onSunday, September 1, 2019
Stewardship Thought: “Everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:33
When we first hear this statement, it seems that Jesus is making an unrealistic demand upon us. How can we renounce all of our possessions? We need them to live. However, what we must renounce is the belief that they belong to us. Everything that we have belongs to God alone. All of our resources are entrusted to us not only for our own use, but also so that we can help others. Once we renounce the idea that we possess or are entitled to anything, it is much easier to share the many gifts that God has given us. Then we truly are His Disciples.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parishioner/s
It was September 8, 1999 when I first arrived into the Diocese of Youngstown. A young seminarian with a limited knowledge of English, but a great desire to offer some of my time and talents to the people of Youngstown. After a few years of service to the diocese I was planning to return to my home country and to continue my ministry in Slovakia. That was the plan written by “Martin”, but since then the plan has been rewritten by God. Twenty years later I am blessed to be a part of this diocese and I am grateful for having my new home away from home. When I came to this diocese, I did not realize that I would become a first chapter of an enriching and wonderful relationship between the Diocese of Youngstown and the Archdiocese of Kosice.
This weekend, at our 4:30 Mass, we welcome at our parish Father Simon Mino, the latest chapter of our collaboration between Slovakia and the Diocese of Youngstown. As we congratulate Fr. Simon and we wish him an abundance of God’s grace, blessings and zeal to proclaim the Good News, I would like to express a sincere THANK YOU to all of YOU.
I believe that I would speak for Fr. Simon as well, if I would say that we decided to come to this diocese and to stay in this country, away from our families, because of you. Your sincere welcome, kindness, generosity, as well as your thirst for God, made us to leave our families so that we could become a part of your families. So once again, THANK YOU.
As we are filled with joy to send off Fr. Simon to his priestly ministry in our diocese with our prayer, I would like to welcome into our parish Connor Hetzel, a seminarian, who will be with us for his pastoral year. Priestly formation outside of the seminary is very important and people in our parishes play significant role in shaping vocations to the priesthood. May your example of faith, compassion and dedication to the Church help Connor on his path towards priesthood as you helped Fr. Simon to prepare for his priestly ministry.
Once again, we wish Fr. Simon all the best as he begins his priestly ministry at St. Christine’s Parish and we welcome seminarian Connor at our parish.
Have a blessed weekend Fr. Martin
