On the fourth Sunday of each month our St. Vincent De Paul Society collects non-perishable food and paper products for Caritas, which operates a food pantry that feeds 300 needy families living in the 63121 and 63120 zip codes. When you shop this week grab an extra can of tuna or chili, jar of peanut butter, a package of paper towels, or any non-perishable food item or paper product (pet food is also appreciated) and bring your donations the week-end of April 23, 24. Thank you for your generosity. Also, there are bread, bagels, and pastries available in the Assembly Room after the Sunday 8 and 11 am masses next weekend. Your free will offering for these items is much appreciated.

The 46th annual Sponsors' Dinner and Auction is Saturday, April 30th. This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year and to be successful we need everyone’s help. You can help by donating an item for the auction (for ideas there is a wish board in the vestibule and we need the items ASAP so the book can go to print,) donating a gift card to your favorite shop or restau-rant, attend the auction and bid on the donated items, purchase raffle tickets (there are some tickets on the table in the back of church.) From the Pastor’s Pen: The Courage to Love… It is an apropos Theme for this year’s Annual Catholic Ap-peal. Perhaps each generation has the same response as they age – the world seems a bit colder, a little sadder, a little less like the world they grew up in. As I age and see more grey on the top of my head than ever used to live there, I re-alize what an act of courage it is to continue to love, to con-tinue to hope, to continue to believe that God is not done with me, nor done with this world of ours, despite the gloom and doom brought to our attention in the nightly news and the daily papers. This theme resonates strongly with me – and I hope with you as well. God is NOT done with us, either in this corner of the world called St. Ann nor the other parts of the Archdiocese. Rather, there are still new initiatives of grace, more outreach to the struggling poor, more chances for us to live the cor-poral works of mercy. If I have the courage to love – to con-tinue to open my heart to the cries of ALL my sisters and brothers, then how can I not open my heart to serve them as well? You know the drill. Volunteers will be in the back of the church with pledge cards for you. Take a moment to fill yours out, either before or after masses this and the next two weekends. Let the sharing of your treasure be an expression of the courage in YOUR heart to love. And know that any donation, no matter how small or large, continues the work of the Kingdom. (As an aside, St. Ann teachers receive Tui-tion assistance from the Catholic Appeal. The Newman Cen-ter received $68,000 last year. What a difference your sup-port makes for us!) Be courageous this year. Speaking of your support, thank you for the amazing out-pouring of Sponsors for the Dinner Dance. I continue to be amazed by your generosity. Some great oral and silent auc-tion items have also found their way to the rectory. If you have a donation and are waiting for your chance to bring it up, NOW is the time. And, if you plan on joining us for the Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 30th, and have not sent in your reservation, please do so at your earliest convenience. Finally, we are always in need of volunteers the week before and the week of to prepare for the great event. Alan Zagurski needs a few good men (and/or women) to strip the wax off the old floor and put down a few layers to spruce things up. The Little Sisters of the Poor have openings in their Independent Living Area. A resident must be at least 65 years of age and have limited financial resources to be considered. Independent Living offers a large single room, fully furnished, with a private bathroom and show-er. Meals, laundry and housekeeping are included in the rent which is subsidized, based on income, assets and medical expenses. The mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor is to welcome the needy elderly of any faith into their Home as they would Jesus Christ himself, and serve them with love and respect until death. On Saturday, April 23 at 9:00 A.M., Defenders of the Un-born will be hosting the Third Annual National Day of Pro-test Against Planned Parenthood in front of their facility at 4251 Forest Park Blvd. The main speaker, among others, will be Georgette Forney of Silent No More.
