After your files are neatly tucked away, you may still need

to access them again. Your information-retention policies will

outline how long they need to be kept to stay in compliance.

And if a legal request comes up during that period, you’ll need

to make the data available. E-discovery software uses advanced

search features and systematic archiving inventories to quickly

search all files and e-mails for a specific topic. You can also flag

legally significant files to ensure they are not deleted.

During the e-discovery process, it is important that you can

prove the information requested was not tampered with in

any way. WORM technology can time stamp file creation and

any alterations. It can also identify which users made the edits.

Disk-based storage is your best option for archived data, as it

better supports e-discovery and compliance needs. Compared

to tape-based storage, it allows faster data access and supports

automatic deletion at the end of the data retention cycle.

Reduce strain on your backup window with proper archiving.

Without an archiving solution, your system is forced to back up both

active and inactive data. And since this data continues to grow,

so will the time it takes to back it up. Plus, the larger your backup

window gets, the more likely it is to interfere with workflow.

But when files that haven’t been recently changed or accessed

are properly archived, you can avoid needlessly backing them

up. This dramatically reduces your backup window and helps

ensure that backup is completed efficiently and on time.

In the case of unexpected data loss, you’ll rely on your backup

to get up and running again. You’ll be able to minimize

downtime by quickly accessing copies of critical files. Archiving

also makes recovery easier, as there’s less backed-up data to

sort through to find the most up-to-date files.
