A rare visitor to our Campus: a big monkey enteredour campus on 2nd July and was jumping around inbranches of the trees. Our hostel boys chased it; themonkey was much surprised to find that there weremany others “like him” around. So off it was from thecampus.

Inter House Football tournament in the School washeld in the school. It went on for more than a weekleaving the newcomers enthused very much. We havea good team of girls this time. It looks that the interJesuit football trophy this season is reserved for them.Time will tell when it comes!

Sharing our Teachers: Something very innovativeof St. Ignatius H. School and Intercollege! Four scienceand Maths teachers of ours used to go in the afternoonto Bardih H/S to give classes, because they had noteachers those days. They did it for a week during theHouse tournament in the school. This is the spirit ofsharing and cooperating with Ours! Greatlyappreciated!

Fr. Anil Tirkey, our missionary in Guyana, paid usa visit on 6th July with his sister Sraddha (nun). Oneday he addressed our Apostolic boys sharing about theGuyana Mission. It was liked much.

Fr. Thomas left for Tezpur (Assam Mission) for ashort visit on 9th July and was back on 16th after a brieftour of different places and getting to know about thework he will undertake over there. He had a mixedfeeling after his visit – mission in the periphery.Childline Project was started from 15th of July in theAROUSE as the Centre. It is a good service to children.

The Sarva Dharma Sadbhavna Manch held the EidMilan and Rath Yatra programme in the premises ofAROUSE on 18th July. The D.C. Dinesh ChandraMishra and the S.P., Mr. Bhimsen Tuti were ChiefGuest and Special Guest respectively. Many peoplecame for the celebration. However, a sad incidentdampened the spirit – five boys from the MuslimCommunity who were drowning in the Koel River, were rescued by the villages but one of them died allthe same. So, many Muslim brethren could not attendthe celebration. The news came just a little before theceremony started. We had a condolence message atthe end of the programme.

Supplementary Matirc exams were held in theschool from 21st July to 25th, for which we had tosuspend our classes except the Class X and InterCollege.

The House bought a new car – Maruti DZire - forthe School and Inter College. On 24th morning Fr.Rector blessed the new car and the Headmasterdistributed sweets on the occasion.

St. Anne’s hosted a big festive Dinner on 26th

evening; none of us absented from this dinner! Earlierin the morning some of us went to pray with themduring the solemn Mass in the Cathedral. The Feast ofSt Ignatius was celebrated with great joy, devotion, andfanfare. It was a rainy day but could not prevent thefootball enthusiasts between the staff and the students.Of course, the staff had to win. Add to it the Birth DayCake cut by Fr. Marc De Brouwer during the dinnerwith all our guests! He said, “This is the first 90 yearsof my life that I see”. This very day letters came in e-mail: Frs. Timelysupport and guidance of Fr. Ajit Xess, SJ and Fr.Florence Kujur, SJ paved the way for the managementto resolve the issues and grievances. Fr. Provincial’svisit to Lohardaga Jesuit Community from 27th & 28th

The School campus was blessed with plenty ofmushrooms to relish the flavor of the season. ButScholastic Bimal Nag could not escape from typhoidand jaundice due to which he was compelled to fightback with medicine and bland diet. Br. Nico could notknow for sure what his ailment was because, aftertaking medicine, he felt dull and sleepy all the time.Fr. Alex and Fr. Ignas tried to beat higher sugar count,BP and weight by brisk walk around the footballground. But Fr. Ranjit, while shouldering theresponsibilities of the community, hostel, school andspiritual ministry, found his uric acid optimum. Fr.Sushil sometimes looked exhausted and bogged downbut kept on moving.

31st July, this year, was not celebrated with songsand dance, fun and frolic but football match duringthe day. The evening celebration, however, was markedby the presence of Priests, religious sisters and brothersfrom different religious communities in Lohardaga.

In the evening, we hada small prayer service with the religious of theneighbourhood, the parish priests of the city where ourBrothers go for pastoral ministry and a select group offriends and collaborators; it was then followed by avariety cultural programme and fellowship meal.

Loyola College Chennai organized the inter facultyBasketball, Volleyball and Football tournaments. Sincewe are recognized as the faculty of Philosophy, LoyolaCollege, Chennai, our teams competed in all the threeevents. We made it to the finals of all the three. However, to our bad luck, we had to be satisfied withthe runners-up medals of both volleyball and basketballtournaments whereas our team is yet to compete in thefootball finals. We are hoping that the equation wouldchange this time around and we would eventually havethe winners’ trophy in football. On 4th August soonafter having played an intense volleyball final, on theirway back to Satya Nilayam, three of our players werecaught by the railway police for mistakenly enteringinto the first class railway compartment. They werefortunately left free after a strict warning and ahandsome penalty. Sch. RomeIn July, Edwin Ritesh Dungdung and Ravi HemantKujur completed successfully one month of Italianlanguage course in Rome. Apart from learning thebasics of Italian language, they also seem to haveacclimatized themselves well to Roman life, cultureand weather. For the month of August, they will moveto Genova to continue their language course. The ItalianNovitiate atmosphere would definitely be more

conducive for them to grasp and deepen thefundamentals of Italian language. Sanjay Dilip joinedthe Radio Vatican officially on 1st July and with thehelp of Justin, he was quick to pick up the tricks andintricacies of writing news, editing, recording andpreparing the materials on time for the transmission. He is confident of sailing through the initial difficulttimes and of being expert in communications with eachpassing day. All four Ranchi men at present in Rome

celebrated the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola in Romanstyle. For Edwin, Ritesh, Ravi and Sanjay, thecelebrations lacked the vigor, large-scale participationand fanfare to which they were accustomed with theusual grand celebrations in and around Ranchi. In theevening, they participated in the solemn HolyEucharistic celebration in Gesù Church which waspresided over by R.P. General. On 1st August, IndianSection of Vatican Radio bade farewell to Justin. Ashis admissions in Marquette University for his doctoralstudies is still under process, he moved to Milan tocontinue his correspondence with the concernedauthorities.

From 1st July onwards, Edwin Dang seems to bewell settled in one of the northern Italian Parishes forhis summer ministry. Being alone in the Parish hasturned into a great boon as he practices freely andfearlessly whatever he has learnt in one year in Rome.A great plus point is that the people of that Parish arevery helpful and encouraging. He is confident ofmastering the spoken as well written language at theend of his two months’ summer ministry. During thefirst week of September, he plans to visit someimportant places related to Fr. Constant Lievens inBelgium.

During the month of July, Linus was fully busygiving regular classes in St. Albert’s College. Kulwantand myself landed in Ranchi almost together. On hisarrival, Kulwant was assigned an important job ofchecking and rewriting the data of each and everymember of Ranchi Jesuit Society. He goes everydayup and down from Manresa House to Sadbhavna tocarry out the assignment faithfully and diligently. Hehas already caught the attention of others with hisdedication to the work and his punctuality. He hopesto complete the assignment before going for a shorthome visit towards the end of August. I had to leavefor Bangalore on 16th July to participate in the PanAsian Conference on the theme “Doing CatholicTheological Ethics in a Cross-Cultural and Inter-religious Asian Context” from 17th to 20th July forwhich there were 100 participants from all over Asia.Immediately after the Conference, I lecturedanintensive course on “Communication Ethics in theAge of Diversity and the Clash of Civilizations” forthe L.Th. students of DVK, Bangalore. I came back toRanchi for the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Many

months before, Ajit Xess had already asked me topreside over the Eucharistic celebration in St. Xavier’sDoranda on the Feast of St. Ignatius. It was evidentthat the Jesuit Community and the staff hadmeticulously planned every aspect of celebration in atrue Xaverian style and spirit and executed the plan ina grand manner. All of us will be back to Rome duringthe first week of September.

JerusalemExperiencing Jesus is the main purpose of any Christiangroup coming to the Holy Land. And so it is for anyJesuit for that matter. July is specially given for theScholastics coming mainly from Gesu’, Rome. Thishas been a tradition since many years till now. To havea program for the scholastics at this stage of formationhas a special significance, namely, that, their study oftheology does not remain merely at the mind level butshould help them to deepen their personal relationshipwith Jesus by actually walking with Him here in theHoly Land. To this end this year ten scholastics camefor the programme from the Community of Gesu’. Br.Kulwant Minj could not join the group as his papersgot delayed. He waits for a chance in the near future. The scholastics hailed from various nationalities.Besides them four other Jesuits joined the programme:two Jesuit priests from India, one from Brazil and adeacon from Haiti. The programme started with theeight-day Spiritual Exercises. The dynamics of theExercises were not in keeping with the Weeks, but toget oneself immersed into the actual Holy Places ofJerusalem and thus to allow the places to speak forthemselves. Meanwhile they required to be watchfuland awake and absorbing them in the heart. The secondpart of their spiritual journey was in Galilee for sixdays. The programme was heavy and the weatherturned out to be hot and yet the whole journey gavethem a new experience. Some of them said, “We hadso many things to see and experience within such ashort time that we had no time “to stand and stare”.

The last week of July came as a moment of graceto revisit the places and deepen the experiences of thewhole month. The climax was the beautiful and homelyEucharistic Service celebrated in our garden on theauspicious occasion of the Feast of St. Ignatius. Thepriests, religious men and women and laity gathered
