BIBLE STUDY
9.00 A.M. – 9.45 A.M
TRINITY ONE
18TH JUNE, 2017
Theme: Divine Means Of Healing Topic: Human Agents (i): Bible Example Text: II Kings 2:19-22. Aim: i) Appreciate God’s use of humans to heal lands; ii) Accept and desire to be used by God; iii) Not look to men but God for the healing of the land. Introduction As we have seen in the previous studies, the healing of a nation may be physical, social, economic, spiritual etc. Satan can use men to make lands fall sick; God can use men to heal lands (cf Rom. 5:12-21). God has intervened directly in actions, and in His usual way, or passing through men who yielded themselves to Him, to bring about needed deliverance and healing. Godsent His Son in human form to deliver men (Heb. 2:14). Thereafter, Jesus has sent us as His Father sent Him, and delegated His dominion over the earth to us as His ambassadors (Matt. 16:19; 18:18-20; John 20:21). Study Guide 1a. What do you understand by the term “Human Agent”? b. What are the general roles of Agents? c. What other names are for agents, in the Bible according to II Cor. 5:21; 3:6; 6:1; Eph. 6:20? d. What are our roles in the healing of lands 2. Read II Kings 2:19-22. a. What was wrong with this city and what were the likely implications) II Kings 2:19. b. How was the land healed, II Kings 2:20, 21? 3. What enabled Elisha to heal the land? II Kings 2:9; Matt. 7:7; II Chron. 7:12-14. 4. How may Christians be used to improve Agriculture, Mining and other land-related professions or discipline in Nigeria? Gen. 41:28-40. Conclusion Christians, who are filled with the Spirit and endowed with the gifts of the Spirit, can be used like Elisha. It was by the gift of the word of wisdom the land was healed, not by Elisha’s might or wisdom. Dare to believe God also. Food For Thought The God of Elisha is my God. Memory Verse - II Kings 2:9.

THE FAMILY: SOCIETY’S BUILDING BLOCK
And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. (I Peter 2:5) The family is the original cell of social life that constituted God’s spiritual temple, wherein families offer spiritual sacrifices. It is the natural society in which husband and wife are called to give themselves in love and in the gift of life in honor of Jesus Christ and to worship precious living stone, the chief cornerstone on which the families life of faith and the church was built. Authority, stability, and a life of relationships within the family enact the foundations for freedom, security, and fraternity within society. The family is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honor God, and make good use of freedom. Family life is an initiation into life in the society. The essential fact is that, it is the family and not the individual that is the elementary building block of the community and thus of society as a whole. This does not rebate the personal status of each individual for each person is of infinite worth, but it is the primacy of the family for the purposes of the community and of the society which incorporates it. Without the cohesion of the family, there can be no lasting community, and without a lasting community, there cannot be a greater society, to say nothing of civilization itself. The family is the community in which children learn morality, faith, and ordered freedom, all of which are necessary for a free and flourishing culture. The family in a way is the primary educator of the community. The parents’ responsibility is to be the first in the community or societies teach their children. The Church was only assigned to manage and taking care of the true faith of the apostles, but it is the parents who do this first, with the Church acting as aide in this regard. The Church defines the doctrines (belief or tenet) and ought to provide the resources for passing them on, but the parents are the ones who ultimately are assigned with passing on the “Faith”, “to guide”, and “to show good virtues. It is the parents furnished proof (witnesses) that will underscores or undermined the Church teachings. Without the family, the community cannot exist. It still takes a mother and a father to make children, though the parents’ responsibility to procreation does not end with mere reproduction. Outside the control and ability of the family and then of the community, our ward might overthrow a civilization, and having no will to maintain the moral order necessary for both stable society and individual liberty when they come of age. Parents’ responsibilities towards their children, and toward society as a whole, is to teach their children proper morals and inculcate what virtues they may; To teach their children how best to live in harmony with others, and how to live in full control of themselves. The family is the basic unit of society, rather than the individual. In the family, the children first learn to establish relationships, the morals which are necessary for the enjoyment of ordered liberty, the virtues which are necessary for morality and freedom to thrive, etc. But in that same family, the parents learn not only how to exercise authority wisely, but also how to sacrifice for others without counting the cost, how to consider the good of others as well as their own good. Society and communities flourish where the family is strong, because in the family we learn selflessness for the common good, yet at the same time retain our individuality. Revd. S. A. Idowu
