President’s Message For those who have participated before welcome back and to all the newbies we hope you enjoy the show. PPBA takes pride in using some of the top judges in the country and we provide competition in all classes that is the best in the west. We hope you will come and show with us and enjoy the weekend. We will be using the Ramada, Modesto Hotel. We understand they may still be under construction during our show this year, so please forgive us, but it will be awesome for our future shows. Anthony E. ❖ DUE DATE: ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN Monday JANUARY 12, 2019. LATE ENTRIES MAY BE RETURNED
❖ E-MAIL ENTRIES and entry fees must be received no later than January 12, 2019 to be accepted. E-mail entries may be returned if payment is not received by due date.
❖ ENTRY FEES: $4.50 per bird, double coops at the discretion of the club (large male birds only), $12.00 per trio (same breed, variety and age). There is a $6.00 exhibitor fee to help defray the set up and clean up costs.
❖ NO CHANGES AFTER THE DEADLINE
❖ LEG BANDS: All entries received in the show room must be leg banded. Band numbers are not required on the entry form. At the time of coop-in ***PLEASE*** note the leg band on the coop tag.
❖ DISEASE: Any bird showing evidence of infectious or contagious disease will be removed from the show room and isolated.
❖ FEEDING/WATERING: Each exhibitor (or their representative) will be responsible for feeding and watering their birds. Feed is provided.
❖ PRIOR TO JUDGING only exhibitor number shall appear on coop tags. An exhibitor list will be included in the exhibitor’s packet. After judging an exhibitor may add their name, address, etc. to the tag.
❖ HANDLING OF BIRDS – No persons other than the owner, show officials and judges shall be allowed to handle exhibits or feed/water without the owner’s permission.
❖ PREMIUMS – All premiums from Breed Clubs and individuals are accepted in good faith.
❖ JUDGING will be by comparison with the latest edition of THE ABA BANTAM STANDARD and the APA STANDARD OF PERFECTION.
❖ SECURITY – PPBA will not be responsible for theft, loss or accidents to exhibits. Locks left on cages may be cut or exhibit not judged.
❖ NO EXHIBITS WILL BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE ON SATURDAY. No dogs will be allowed in the show hall with the exception of service dogs and they will remain on the cement walk area.

Serama Table Top Show A SCNA sanctioned Serama Tabletop Show. Traditional, Ayam, Silkied and Friz-zled Classes. OPEN AND YOUTH SHOW. ENTRY FEES: $4.50 per bird plus a $6.00 exhibitor fee (all exhibitors must pay this fee), Deadline to enter is January 12, 2019. Find entry forms online at www.wildwestseramas.com. SERAMAS ENTERED IN THE PPBA SHOW WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COOP OUT UNTIL SUNDAY MORNING AFTER THE CHAMPIONS ARE PICKED.
APA Egg competition Judging Criteria
1. Shell Color: 6 point possible. Does shell color conform to APA breed stand-ard? This is not applicable of eggs from mix ancestry.
2. Shape: 3 points possible. Are they too elongated, too small, too rounded? 3. Texture: 2 points possible.
- Matt – 0 points - Satin – 1 point (Shell should feel smooth to the touch all over). - Bright – 2 points (Bloom and appearance will only be present with
freshness). 4. Uniformity: 3 points possible. How closely do eggs match each other?
Total possible points – 14 In case of ties, judging becomes more detailed.

APA National Egg Show Rules
An Egg Show Champion will be chosen from the top eggs in each class of the main egg competition. Main Egg Competition
- One entry consists of a group of 3 eggs. - Open and Junior in each division. - Judging Criteria: Shell color (when breed standard has stated color, variation
from this is penalized), Shape, Texture, Uniformity. - Entries shall note the breed of eggs, non standard (not recognized by APA),
mix or unknown ancestry.
Divisions – - Large Eggs – Breed, Non-Standard or mix noted on entry card. Classes: White,
Brown, or other colors (speckled or mottled entered by background color).
- Bantam Eggs – Breed or Non-Standard noted on entry card. Classes: White, Brown, or other colors (speckled or mottled entered by background color).
- Waterfowl eggs – Breed or Non-Standard noted on entry card. Classes: White, brown, or other colors (speckled or mottled entered by background color). - All Other Eggs – Emu, Turkey, etc. Classes: White, brown, or other colors (speckled or mottled entered by background color).
Painted Egg Competition - 1 egg consists of one entry. Multiple entries accepted. - Open and Junior (please note age category: 5-7yrs, 8-11 yrs, 12-16 yrs.). - Egg must be hard boiled or blown. - Egg is painted or inked. NO adornment or decorations added. - Some type of upright support recommended. - Egg must be painted/inked by exhibitor.
Decorated Egg Completion - 1 egg consists of one entry. Multiple entries accepted. - Open and Junior (please note age category: 5-7yrs, 8-11 yrs, 12-16 yrs.). - Egg must be hard boiled or blown. - Egg is to be adorned or decorated, but may have paint added. - Outline of egg must be recognizable. - Egg decoration must be created by the exhibitor.
Exhibitors in egg competition are NOT required to enter birds. They may enter in egg competition only. There is a entry fee charge of $4 for the first entry and $3 for each entry after that.
CALIFORNIA NATIONAL This show is a recognized POINT MEET for the California National Show Year 2018-2019. Anyone who is a member of a California Poultry Club is eligible to enroll and compete for the Exhibit of Merit and Breed Fanciers awards. Points will be awarded to an exhibitor for their 6 highest scoring recognized shows. Cost to join is $15.00. No points will be awarded for wins of shows prior to enrollment. ALL CLASSES WILL BEGIN AT 10:00 AM SATURDAY. Please check in by 9:00 AM Cost is $5.00 pre-registration or $10.00 for registration at the show. On site registration must be done before 9:00 AM. NO SAME DAY REGISTRATION AF-TER 9:00 AM. Uniforms are not required, but competitors will be scored on
neatness. Bird used in showmanship may not be entered in the show. Divisions are: Mini (ages 5-8), Novice (9 & up, never having shown before), Junior (ages 9-11), Intermediate (ages 12-13) and Senior (ages 14 through the year in which you turn 19).
STANDARD OF PERFECTION KNOWLEDGE QUIZ - Saturday 9AM - 2PM The quiz is open book. All you need are your APA and ABA Standards. We will have some copies of standards available if you don’t have one! Age classes: 8 & under, 9-11, 12-13, 14-19. Ribbons will be awarded, in each age group to 5th place.
JUDGING CONTEST - Saturday 9AM-2PM Come and judge 4 classes of purebred exhibition poultry! Judge and fill out your score sheet. Winners & class placing reasons will be posted at 1PM. Age classes: MINI 8 & under, JUNIOR 9-11, INTERMEDIATE 12-13 and SENIOR 14-19. Ribbons will be awarded, in each age group to 5th place. For questions concerning the youth activities please call Rondalyn Solano-Lim at 916-997-7908.
THE SALES AREA
The sales area will be under the supervision of the
Angelus Ranus 4-H Club Sales cages will be provided for members of the PPBA only and must be paid in advance with the entry form. YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR PPBA DUES. SALE CAGES WILL BE LIMITED SO PLEASE include payment for membership with entry if you want sale cage(s). SALE CAGE Cost is $10 per hole WHEN SENT WITH YOUR ENTRY. THE COST OF A SALES CAGE AT THE SHOW WILL BE $15. No more than 5 bantams or 3 standard fowl in a single cage. PPBA will provide large cage(s) for turkeys and geese. Please note on entry. Cages must be paid for in advance with entry. Cage cards will be provided to all purchasers of space at check-in. Cage card including price of birds should be placed on cage(s) prior to placing birds in cage(s). Selling birds outside of the sales room is prohibited. No out of car selling unless you are delivering birds sold prior to the show. All birds must be purebred and healthy. Sale birds will be checked by an APA judge for quality and must meet standard qualifications set by club in order to be sold. Owners are responsible for the sale and feeding/ water-ing of their own stock unless an authorization form has been signed giving Kiernan Klovers permission to sell their birds. There is a 10% sales fee for selling the birds, and feeding and watering them. Authorization Forms will be available in the sales room. Boxes will be for sale in the Sales Room for a nominal fee. Neither PPBA nor Kiernan Klovers will be responsible for lost or stolen birds. On Sunday, we request the sales area be promptly vacated at the conclusion of the show. All birds must be removed from the sales area no later than 10AM on Sunday.
