BASIC ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS1.1 GENERAL:

A. DESCRIPTION: WORK SHALL CONSIST OF FURNISHING ALL LABOR, EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, NECESSARY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AS REQUIRED BY THE SPECIFICATIONS AND AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, SUBJECT TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE CONTRACT. THE WORK SHALL ALSO INCLUDE THE COMPLETION OF THOSE DETAILS ELECTRICAL WORK NOT MENTIONED OR SHOWN WHICH ARE NECESSARY FOR THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATION OF ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.

1.2 DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS:A. THE DRAWINGS INDICATE THE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF CIRCUITS AND OUTLETS,

LOCATIONS OF SWITCHES, PANELBOARDS AND OTHER WORK. INFORMATION SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS IS DIAGRAMMATIC, HOWEVER, THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER WILL NOT PERMIT REVISING THE CIRCUITING SHOWN WITHOUT SPECIFIC APPROVAL. DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS ARE COMPLEMENTARY EACH TO THE OTHER; WORK REQUIRED BY EITHER SHALL BE AS BINDING AS IF REQUIRED FOR BY BOTH. C. DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN DIFFERENT PLANS, BETWEEN PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, BETWEEN SPECIFICATIONS, OR REGULATIONS AND CODES GOVERNING THIS INSTALLATION SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER IN WRITING BEFORE THE DATE OF BID OPENING. IN THE EVENT SUCH DISCREPANCIES EXIST AND THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER IS NOT SO NOTIFIED, THE ADJUDICATION OF RESPONSIBILITY SHALL BE SOLELY AT THE DISCRETION OF THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER.

1.3 SUBMITTALS:A. SUBMIT (3) COPIES OF SHOP DRAWINGS AND PRODUCT DATA FOR THE FOLLOWING

ITEMS: ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT INCLUDING PANELBOARDS, DISCONNECT SWITCHES, BREAKERS, ETC., WIRING DEVICES AND LUMINAIRES INCLUDING BALLASTS AND OCCUPANCY SENSORS. SUBMIT ONLY FOR PRODUCTS WHERE REQUIRED BY TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION SECTIONS. SUBMITTALS NOT REQUIRED WILL BE RETURNED WITHOUT ACTION.

B. CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT SUBMITTALS PROCESSED BY THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER ARE NOT CHANGE ORDERS; THAT THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTALS IS TO DEMONSTRATE TO THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER THAT THE CONTACTOR UNDERSTANDS THE DESIGN CONCEPT; AND THAT THE CONTRACTOR DEMONSTRATES THIS UNDERSTANDING BY CLEARLY INDICATING THE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL PROPOSED FOR APPLICATION AND BE THE PROPOSED FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION METHODS.

C. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DIMENSIONS (WHICH CONTRACTOR SHALL CONFIRM AND CORRELATE), FABRICATION PROCESSES AND TECHNIQUES OF CONSTRUCTION AND COORDINATION OF HIS WORK WITH THAT OF OTHER TRADES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CHECK AND VERIFY ALL MEASUREMENTS AND REVIEW SHOP DRAWINGS BEFORE SUBMITTING THEM. IF ANY DEVIATIONS FROM THE SPECIFIED REQUIREMENTS FOR ANY ITEM OF MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT EXIST, SUCH DEVIATION SHALL BE EXPRESSLY STATED IN WRITING AND INCORPORATED AS PART OF THE SUBMITTAL.

D. NO EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS SHALL BE INSTALLED OR STORED AT THE JOBSITE UNTIL SUBMITTALS FOR SUCH EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS HAVE BEEN GIVEN REVIEW ACTION PERMITTING THEIR USE.

1.4 RECORD DRAWINGS:A. MAINTAIN A CONTRACT SET OF ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS AT THE SITE. NEATLY MARK ALL

CHANGES AND DEVIATIONS FROM THE ORIGINAL DRAWINGS. USE RED FOR ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, GREEN FOR DELETED SCOPE ITEMS, AND BLUE FOR NOTES TO CLARIFY INSTALLATIONS. THIS SHALL BE A SEPARATE SET OF DRAWINGS, NOT USED FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES AND SHALL BE KEPT UP TO DATE AS THE JOB PROGRESSES AND SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION BY THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER AT ALL TIMES. UPON COMPLETION OF THE CONTRACT, THIS SET OF RECORD DRAWINGS SHALL BE DELIVERED TO THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER.

1.5 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

A. CONFORM TO THOSE EDITIONS OF THE FOLLOWING AS CURRENTLY ADOPTED BY THE LOCAL CODE ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY:1. NFPA, UL, IEEE, NEMA, CBM, ANSI, NECA, ICEA AND NETA.

2. INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE INCLUDING LOCAL AMENDMENTS AND APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT, PREVENTION BUREAU OR FIRE MARSHAL.

3. COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF THE UTILITY AND TELEPHONE COMPANIES FURNISHING SERVICE TO THIS INSTALLATION.

B. OBTAIN ELECTRICAL PERMITS WHEN REQUIRED BY THE PROJECT MANAGER, INCLUDING SUBSEQUENT PLAN REVIEWS AND INSPECTIONS FROM THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION. PROVIDE ALL NOTICES NECESSARY IN CONNECTION THEREWITH AND PAY ALL FEES. WORK SHALL NOT BE COVERED BEFORE INSPECTIONS BY THE JURISDICTIONAL AUTHORITIES AND OBSERVATION BY THE ENGINEER.

C. THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS TAKE PRECEDENCE WHEN THEY ARE MORE STRINGENT THAN CODES, STATUTES, OR CONFLICT WITH THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS.

1.6 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

A. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: ACCEPTABLE TO THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION AS SUITABLE FOR THE USE INTENDED, EXCEPT WHERE MORE STRINGENT REQUIREMENTS ARE INDICATED BY THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.

B. COMPATIBILITY WITH AVAILABLE SPACE: EQUIPMENT LAYOUTS SHOWN ARE BASED ON USE OF EQUIPMENT AS SPECIFIED. IF THE CONTRACTOR CHOOSES EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FROM ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER LISTED AS AN ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURER, OR OFFERS EQUIPMENT UNDER THE PROVISION FOR SUBSTITUTIONS, THE CONTACTOR SHALL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR FIRST ASCERTAINING THAT THE OFFERED EQUIPMENT CAN BE INSTALLED IN THE SPACE AVAILABLE WITH AMPLE CLEARANCES FOR MAINTENANCE.

C. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS INSTALLED SHALL BE NEW, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS AND/OR SPECIFIED, MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS SHALL BE STANDARD CATALOGED ITEMS WHICH HAVE BEEN IN PRODUCTION FOR A PERIOD NOT LESS THAN TWO (2) YEARS PRIOR TO DATE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS OR PROPOSALS.

D. DEFECTIVE OR DAMAGED MATERIALS SHALL BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED, PRIOR TO FINAL ACCEPTANCE, IN A MANNER ACCEPTABLE TO THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER OR OWNER AND AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.

E. ALL ELECTRICAL MATERIALS SHALL BE ACCEPTABLE FOR INSTALLATION ONLY IF LABELED OR LISTED BY A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TESTING LABORATORY AND IF ACCEPTED BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES. INCLUDE CE FROM EUROPE.

F. ALL MAJOR EQUIPMENT COMPONENTS SHALL HAVE THE MANUFACTURER’S NAME, ADDRESS, MODEL NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER PERMANENTLY ATTACHED IN A CONSPICUOUS LOCATION.

1.7 STORAGE AND PROTECTION:

A. STORE PRODUCTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS, WITH SEALS AND LABELS INTACT AND LEGIBLE. STORE SENSITIVE PRODUCTS IN WEATHER-TIGHT ENCLOSURES; MAINTAIN WITHIN TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY RANGES REQUIRED BY MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS.

1.8 PRODUCT OPTIONS:

A. PRODUCTS SPECIFIED BY REFERENCE STANDARDS OR BY DESCRIPTION ONLY; ANY PRODUCT MEETING THOSE STANDARDS.

B. PRODUCTS SPECIFIED BY NAMING ONE OR MORE MANUFACTURERS WITH A PROVISION FOR SUBSTITUTIONS; SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR SUBSTITUTION FOR ANY MANUFACTURER NOT SPECIFICALLY NAMED.

C. PRODUCTS SPECIFIED BY NAMING ONE OR MORE MANUFACTURERS WITHOUT A PROVISION FOR SUBSTITUTIONS; PRODUCTS OF NAMED MANUFACTURERS MEETING SPECIFICATIONS; NO OPTIONS, NO SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED.

1.9 GUARANTEE:

A. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM INSTALLED UNDER THIS CONTRACT SHALL BE LEFT IN PROPER WORKING ORDER. REPLACE, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER, ANY WORK, MATERIALS, OR EQUIPMENT WHICH EVIDENCES DEFECTS IN DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION OR WORKMANSHIP WITHIN ONE YEAR, OR AS SPECIFICALLY NOTED ELSEWHERE IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS, FROM DATE OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE.

1.10 WORKMANSHIP:

A. WORKMANSHIP SHALL CONFORM TO HIGHEST INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR EACH TRADE INVOLVED IN ERECTION OF THE WORK.

B. CONTRACTOR’S PERSONNEL AND SUBCONTRACTORS SELECTED TO PERFORM THE WORK SHALL BE WELL VERSED AND SKILLED IN THE TRADES INVOLVED.

C. THE ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEER MUST ACCEPT ANY CHANGES OR DEVIATIONS FROM THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS IN WRITING. ALL ERRORS IN INSTALLATION SHALL BE CORRECTED AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONTRACTOR. ALL SPECIALTIES SHALL BE INSTALLED AS DETAILED ON THE DRAWINGS. WHERE DETAILS OR SPECIFIC INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT PROVIDED, MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS SHALL BE FOLLOWED.

D. UPON COMPLETION OF WORK, ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL BE INSTALLED COMPLETE, THOROUGHLY CHECKED, CORRECTLY ADJUSTED AND LEFT READY FOR INTENDED USE OR OPERATION. ALL WORK SHALL BE THOROUGHLY CLEANED AND ALL RESIDUES SHALL BE REMOVED FROM SURFACES. EXTERIOR SURFACES OF ALL MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE DELIVERED IN UNBLEMISHED CONDITION.

E. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A COMPLETE INSTALLATION, INCLUDING ALL REQUIRED LABOR, MATERIAL, CARTAGE, INSURANCE, PERMITS AND TAXES.

F. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SCHEDULE HIS WORK IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO CAUSE THE OWNER A MINIMUM OF INCONVENIENCE DUE TO SERVICE INTERRUPTION. SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS SHALL BE CONFINED TO THE SMALLEST AREA POSSIBLE AT ANY ONE TIME AND ALL INTERRUPTIONS SHALL REQUIRE A 72-HOUR PRIOR APPROVAL BY THE OWNER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE PREPARED TO PERFORM ALL WORK DURING SERVICE INTERRUPTION AT PREMIUM TIME.

1.11 CHASES, OPENINGS, CUTTING AND PATCHING:

A. CAREFULLY LAY OUT ALL WORK IN ADVANCE SO AS TO ELIMINATE WHERE POSSIBLE, CUTTING, CHANNELING, CHASING OR DRILLING OF FLOORS, WALL, PARTITIONS, CEILINGS AND ROOFS. ANY DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING, STRUCTURE, PIPING, DUCTS, EQUIPMENT OR ANY DEFACED FINISH SHALL BE REPAIRED BY SKILLED MECHANICS OF THE TRADES INVOLVED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER AND TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER. ANY NECESSARY CUTTING, CHANNELING, DRILLING OR WELDING AS REQUIRED FOR THE PROPER SUPPORT, CONCEALMENT, INSTALLATION OR ANCHORING OF RACEWAYS, OUTLETS, OR OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PERFORMED IN A CAREFUL MANNER AND AS APPROVED.

B. ALL OPENINGS MADE IN FIRE-RATED WALLS, FLOORS OR CEILINGS SHALL BE PATCHED AND MADE TIGHT IN A MANNER TO CONFORM TO THE FIRE RATING FOR THE UL RATED ASSEMBLY.

C. ALL PENETRATIONS REQUIRED THROUGH EXISTING MASONRY OR CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE CORE DRILLED AT MINIMUM SIZE REQUIRED. PRECAUTIONS SHALL BE TAKEN WHEN DRILLING TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO STRUCTURAL CONCRETE AND REINFORCEMENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF DAMAGE TO STRUCTURAL CONCRETE AND REINFORCEMENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN X-RAYS OF THE AREA BEING DRILLED OR CUT BEFORE PROCEEDING. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE X-RAYS WITH THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER AND OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE OWNER, ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH CUTTING OR DRILLING.

D. SLEEVE SEALS: PROVIDE SLEEVE SEALS FOR PENETRATIONS LOCATED IN FOUNDATION WALLS BELOW GRADE, OR IN EXTERIOR WALLS. SEALS SHALL BE MODULAR MECHANICAL TYPE AS MANUFACTURED BY THUNDERLINE CORP. CONSISTING OF INTERLOCKING SYNTHETIC RUBBER LINKS SHAPED TO CONTINUOUSLY FILL ANNULAR SPACE BETWEEN RACEWAY AND SLEEVE, CONNECTED WITH BOLTS AND PRESSURE PLATES WHICH CAUSE RUBBER SEALING ELEMENTS TO EXPAND WHEN TIGHTENED, PROVIDING WATERTIGHT SEAL.

1.12 ELECTRICAL COMPLETION:

A. INDOCTRINATION OF OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL:

1. FURNISH THE SERVICES OF A QUALIFIED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SUPPLIER OF EACH ITEM OR SYSTEM FOR WHICH INDOCTRINATION AND/OR TRAINING OR PERSONNEL IS SPECIFIED OR REQUIRED, FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSTRUCTING SPECIFIC PERSONNEL, AS DESIGNATED BY THE OWNER, IN THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF SUCH ITEMS OR SYSTEMS.

2. INSTRUCTION SHALL BE GIVEN WHEN THE INSTALLATION OF THE AFFECTED ITEMS OR SYSTEM IS COMPLETE AND SHALL BE OF THE NUMBER OF HOURS INDICATED OR REQUIRED AND AT TIMES ACCEPTABLE TO OWNER. A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE PRESENT FOR ALL DEMONSTRATIONS.

B. OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS AND PARTS LISTS: DELIVER THREE COMPLETE OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS AND PARTS LISTS TO THE OWNER AT THE TIME OF THE ABOVE REQUIRED INDOCTRINATION. FULLY EXPLAIN THE CONTENTS OF THE MANUALS AS PART OF REQUIRED INDOCTRINATION AND INSTRUCT THE OWNER IN THE CORRECT PROCEDURE IN OBTAINING SERVICE, BOTH DURING AND AFTER THE GUARANTEE PERIOD.

1. THE OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS AND PARTS LISTS SHALL INCLUDE COMPLETE INFORMATION AS TO WHOM THE OWNER MAY CONTACT FOR SERVICE AND PARTS. INCLUDE ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. FURNISH EVIDENCE THAT AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE ORGANIZATION REGULARLY CARRIES A COMPLETE STOCK OF REPAIR PARTS FOR THESE ITEMS (OR SYSTEMS) AND THAT THE ORGANIZATION IS AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE. SERVICE SHALL BE AVAILABLE WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER REQUEST.

C. CLEAN-UP: REMOVE ALL MATERIALS, SCRAP AND DEBRIS RELATIVE TO THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AND LEAVE THE PREMISES AND ALL EQUIPMENT, LAMPS, FIXTURES, ETC. IN A CLEAN, ORDERLY CONDITION ANY COSTS TO THE OWNER FOR CLEAN-UP OF THE SITE WILL BE CHARGED AGAINST THE CONTRACTOR.

D. FINAL ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER WILL NOT OCCUR UNTIL ALL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ARE RECEIVED AND OWNER’S PERSONNEL HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY INDOCTRINATED IN THE MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF ALL EQUIPMENT.

1.13 CONSTRUCTION LIGHTING AND POWER:

A. PROVIDE ALL TEMPORARY FACILITIES REQUIRED TO SUPPLY CONSTRUCTION POWER AND LIGHT. INSTALL AND MAINTAIN FACILITIES IN A MANNER THAT WILL PROTECT THE PUBLIC AND WORKMEN. COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE LAWS AND REGULATIONS. PROVIDE STAMPED AND SIGNED DRAWINGS OF THE TEMPORARY SERVICE AND FACILITIES WHEN REQUIRED BY THE LOCAL AUTHORITY. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS.

1.14 ELECTRICAL REMODELING PROVISIONS:

A. EXAMINATION

1. FIELD VERIFY MEASUREMENTS AND CIRCUITING ARRANGEMENTS.

2. VERIFY THAT ABANDONED WIRING AND EQUIPMENT SERVE ONLY ABANDONED FACILITIES. MAINTAIN ELECTRICAL CONTINUITY TO REMAINING WIRING AND EQUIPMENT.

3. DEMOLITION DRAWINGS ARE BASED ON CASUAL FIELD OBSERVATION AND/OR EXISTING RECORD DOCUMENTS. REPORT DISCREPANCIES TO ARCHITECT/ENGINEER BEFORE DISTURBING EXISTING INSTALLATION.

4. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE PRIOR TO BIDDING TO BE AWARE OF EXISTING CONDITIONS AND SHALL INCLUDE IN HIS BID AN ALLOWANCE FOR THE DEMO AND RELOCATION OF EXISTING CONDUITS, WIRES DEVICES, FIXTURES OR OTHER EQUIPMENT AS INDICATED ON THE PLANS OR AS REQUIRED TO COORDINATE AND ADAPT NEW AND EXISTING ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS TO ALL OTHER WORK REQUIRED ON THIS PROJECT.

1.15 PREPARATION:

A. PROVIDE TEMPORARY WIRING AND CONNECTIONS TO MAINTAIN EXISTING SYSTEMS IN SERVICE DURING CONSTRUCTION. WHEN WORK MUST BE PERFORMED ON ENERGIZED EQUIPMENT OR CIRCUITS USE PERSONNEL EXPERIENCED IN SUCH OPERATIONS.

B. EXISTING ELECTRICAL SERVICE, FIRE ALARM SYSTEM AND TELEPHONE SYSTEM: MAINTAIN EXISTING SYSTEMS IN SERVICE UNTIL NEW SYSTEMS ARE ACCEPTED OR AS OTHERWISE INDICATED. DISABLE SYSTEMS ONLY TO MAKE SWITCHOVERS AND CONNECTIONS. SCHEDULE ANY OUTAGES WITH THE OWNER AT LEAST 72 HOURS BEFORE PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY DISABLING SYSTEM. MINIMIZE OUTAGE DURATION. MAKE TEMPORARY CONNECTIONS TO MAINTAIN SERVICE IN AREAS ADJACENT TO WORK AREA. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT LEAVE THE SITE WITHOUT RESTORING THE OPERATION OF ALL SYSTEMS.

1.16 REMOVAL AND EXTENSION OF EXISTING ELECTRICAL WORK:

A. REMOVE, RELOCATE AND EXTEND EXISTING INSTALLATIONS TO ACCOMMODATE NEW CONSTRUCTION.

B. REMOVE ABANDONED WIRING TO SOURCE OF SUPPLY.

C. REMOVE EXPOSED ABANDONED CONDUIT, INCLUDING ABANDONED CONDUIT ABOVE ACCESSIBLE CEILING FINISHES. CUT CONDUIT FLUSH WITH WALLS AND FLOORS AND PATCH SURFACES.

D. DISCONNECT ABANDONED OUTLETS AND REMOVE DEVICES. REMOVE ABANDONED OUTLET BOXES IF CONDUIT SERVING THEM IS ABANDONED AND REMOVED. PROVIDE BLANK COVER FOR ABANDONED OUTLET BOXES THAT ARE NOT REMOVED.

E. DISCONNECT AND REMOVE ELECTRICAL DEVICES AND EQUIPMENT SERVING UTILIZATION EQUIPMENT THAT HAS BEEN REMOVED.

F. DEMOLISH CONDUIT SERVING THE REMOVED DEVICE BACK TO THE NEXT LIVE DEVICE OR BACK TO THE SOURCE WHERE NO OTHER DEVICES SHALL REMAIN. WHERE THE CIRCUITRY FEEDS DEVICES DOWNSTREAM, THE CONDUIT SHALL BE REMOVED BACK TO THE NEAREST JUNCTION BOX AND THE CIRCUITRY TO THE DOWNSTREAM DEVICES SHALL BE MAINTAINED.

G. REPAIR ADJACENT CONSTRUCTION AND FINISHES DAMAGED DURING DEMOLITION AND EXTENSION WORK. PROVIDE MODIFICATIONS TO ASSURE THAT CIRCUITS OR SYSTEMS WIRING SHALL NOT PASS THOUGH OUTLET OR JUNCTION BOXES THAT MAY BE RENDERED INACCESSIBLE BY CHANGES MADE TO THE BUILDING.

H. MAINTAIN ACCESS TO EXISTING ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS THAT ARE TO REMAIN ACTIVE. MODIFY INSTALLATION OR PROVIDE ACCESS PANEL AS APPROPRIATE.

I. EXTEND EXISTING INSTALLATIONS USING MATERIALS AND METHODS AS SPECIFIED. WHERE NONE IS SPECIFIED, UTILIZE SIMILAR MATERIALS AND METHODS.

J. WHERE THE REUSE OF EXISTING CONDUITS, OUTLETS, JUNCTION BOXES, ETC. IS PERMISSIBLE, MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE WIRING FOR THEM IS CONTINUOUS FROM OUTLET TO OUTLET.

K. CONNECT NEW WORK TO EXISTING WORK IN A MANNER THAT WILL ASSURE PROPER RACEWAY GROUNDING THROUGHOUT IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE.

L. EXISTING CONDUITS, WIRE, DEVICES, FIXTURES, ETC WHICH SHALL BE REMOVED SHALL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE CONTRACTOR UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

M. IF HAZARD MATERIALS ARE ENCOUNTERED THE CONTRACTOR SHALL STOP WORK AND REPORT FINDINGS TO THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER.

1.17 CLEANING AND REPAIR:

A. CLEAN AND REPAIR EXISTING MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT THAT REMAIN OR ARE TO BE REUSED.

B. PANELBOARDS: CLEAN EXPOSED SURFACES AND CHECK TIGHTNESS OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS. REPLACE DAMAGED CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND PROVIDE CLOSURE PLATES FOR VACANT POSITIONS. PROVIDE TYPED CIRCUIT DIRECTORY SHOWING REVISED CIRCUITING ARRANGEMENT.

1.18 INSTALLATION:

A. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM ALL CUTTING, CHANNELING, CHASING, DRILLING, ETC. AS REQUIRED TO INSTALL OR REMOVE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IN AREAS OF REMODELING. THIS WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED SO AS TO MINIMIZE DAMAGE TO PORTIONS OF WALL FINISHES, SURFACES, PLASTERING OR THE STRUCTURES WHICH ARE TO BE REUSED, RESURFACED, PLASTERED OR PAINTED.

B. CAREFULLY COORDINATE WITH THE REQUIRED REMODELING WORK, CUTTING AND PATCHING, ETC. PERFORMED BY OTHER TRADES. REMOVE OR RELOCATE EXISTING ELECTRICAL CONDUITS, WIRES, DEVICES, FIXTURES AND OTHER EQUIPMENT AS NECESSARY.

1.19 TESTING, ACCEPTANCES AND CERTIFICATION:

A. GENERAL

1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE NECESSARY FIELD-TESTING AND STARTUP SERVICES FOR ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT PROVIDED UNDER THIS CONTRACT EXCEPT AS NOTED OTHERWISE. THE FIELD-TESTING AND STARTUP SERVICES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH EACH EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER’S WRITTEN RECOMMENDATIONS. NO TESTING SHALL BE PERFORMED WHICH IN ANY WAY BE IN CONFLICTS WITH THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS AND WHICH WILL ADVERSELY AFFECT ANY MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTIES.

2. IF THE CONTRACTOR FINDS DURING THE TESTING THAT ANY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT DOES NOT SATISFACTORILY PASS THE REQUIRED FIELD TEST, THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER SHALL BE PROMPTLY NOTIFIED AND THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE THE NECESSARY ACTIONS FOR THE PROMPT REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT AS RECOMMENDED BY ARCHITECT/ENGINEER, THE EQUIPMENT SHALL THEN BE RETESTED. THIS PROCESS SHALL BE REPEATED, IF NECESSARY, UNTIL THE EQUIPMENT SATISFACTORILY PASSES THE REQUIRED TEST.

1.20 CONDUIT:

A. CONDUIT REQUIREMENTS

1. MINIMUM SIZE: ½ INCH FOR SWITCH LEGS AND CONTROL CONDUITS (EXCEPT THAT BRANCH CIRCUIT HOME RUNS TO PANELBOARD TO BE NOT LESS THAN ¾ INCH), AND ¾ INCH FOR ALL OTHERS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

2. CONDUIT SCHEDULE:

a. PROVIDE ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING IN DRY LOCATIONS.

1) THE USE OF MC AND AC CABLES IS PROHIBITED.

3. FITTINGS AND CONNECTORS:

a. EMT CONDUIT CONNECTIONS IN DRY LOCATIONS SHALL UTILIZE STEEL FITTINGS AND CONNECTORS WITH INSULATED THROAT.

b. EMT CONDUIT CONNECTIONS IN WET LOCATIONS SHALL UTILIZE INSULATED THROAT STEEL COMPRESSION FITTINGS AND CONNECTORS.

c. IDENTIFIER, PUSH-ON, DIE, OR PRESSURE CAST ZINC ALLOY, WHITE METAL OR POT METAL FITTINGS SHALL NOT BE USED.

d. FLEXIBLE STEEL METALLIC TUBING CONNECTORS SHALL BE THOMAS & BETTS TITE-BITE OR EQUIVALENT WITH PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL.

e. LIQUID TIGHT FLEXIBLE STEEL METALLIC TUBING CONNECTORS SHALL UTILIZE STEEL COMPRESSION TYPE FERRULE AND NEOPRENE GASKET SEALING RINGS ON FITTINGS AND CONNECTORS AND SHALL HAVE INSULATED NYLON THROATS.

B. SURFACE METAL RACEWAY REQUIREMENTS

1. PROVIDE GALVANIZED STEEL RACEWAY WITH SNAP-ON COVER. FINISH IN MANUFACTURER'S STANDARD PRIME COATING SUITABLE FOR FIELD PAINTING. PROVIDE RACEWAYS OF SUITABLE SIZE BASED ON FILL FOR CIRCUITS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS. PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY BOXES, COVERS, EXTENSIONS, FITTINGS, ETC. TO FORM A COMPLETE ASSEMBLY.

2. WHERE CONCEALED RACEWAY IS NOT PHYSICALLY FEASIBLE OR WHERE SURFACE RACEWAY IS INDICATED TO BE PROVIDED, PROVIDE EXPOSED SURFACE MOUNTED RACEWAY. EXPOSED RACEWAY IN FINISHED AREAS INCLUDING BUT LIMITED TO LOBBIES, OFFICE AREAS, CORRIDORS, LABORATORIES, AND AREAS SUBJECT TO VIEWING ON A NORMAL BASIS SHALL UTILIZE SURFACE MOUNTED RACEWAYS SUCH AS WIREMOLD AND SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH THE SURFACE APPLIED TO.

a. PROVIDE WIREMOLD SERIES 500 RACEWAY MOUNTED AT HEIGHT NOTED ON THE PLANS AND WITH OPENINGS OR WIRING DEVICES AS INDICATED. ROUTE HOMERUN RACEWAY CONCEALED WITHIN WALLS AND CEILINGS FROM SURFACE RACEWAY CONNECTION BOX TO SOURCE.

C. CONDUIT INSTALLATION:

1. CONCEAL ALL CONDUIT AND RACEWAYS WITHIN FINISHED WALLS, CEILINGS, AND FLOORS UNLESS INDICATED OTHERWISE. KEEP RACEWAYS AT LEAST 6 INCHES AWAY FROM PARALLEL RUNS OF FLUES AND STEAM OR HOT WATER PIPES. INSTALL RACEWAYS LEVEL AND SQUARE AND AT PROPER ELEVATIONS.

2. ROUTE RACEWAY AS CLOSE TO STRUCTURE AS POSSIBLE. WHERE HORIZONTAL RACEWAY IS INSTALLED NEAR WATER AND STEAM PIPING, ROUTE RACEWAY ABOVE PIPING AND AS CLOSE TO STRUCTURE AS POSSIBLE AND PRACTICAL.

3. COMPLETE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL RACEWAYS BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION OF CONDUCTORS WITHIN RACEWAYS.

4. MAKE BENDS AND OFFSETS SO THE INSIDE DIAMETER IS NOT EFFECTIVELY REDUCED. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED, KEEP THE LEGS OF A BEND IN THE SAME PLANE AND THE STRAIGHT LEGS OF OFFSETS PARALLEL. BENDS IN CONDUIT LARGER THAN 1-1/4 INCH SHALL BE FACTORY-MADE ELBOWS UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFICALLY APPROVED. BENDS SHALL NOT BE WRINKLED.

5. USE RACEWAY FITTINGS THAT ARE TYPES COMPATIBLE WITH THE ASSOCIATED RACEWAY AND SUITABLE FOR THE USE AND LOCATION. INSTALL EXPANSION FITTINGS ACROSS ALL STRUCTURAL CONSTRUCTION JOINTS AND EXPANSION/DEFLECTION COUPLINGS ACROSS ALL STRUCTURAL EXPANSION JOINTS AND IN EVERY 200 FOOT OF LINEAR CONDUIT RUN. A FLEXIBLE BONDING JUMPER AT LEAST THREE-TIMES THE NOMINAL WIDTH OF THE JOINT SHALL BE INSTALLED.

6. RUN RACEWAYS PARALLEL AND PERPENDICULAR TO BUILDING ELEMENTS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT WITH A MINIMUM OF BENDS IN THE SHORTEST PRACTICAL DISTANCE CONSIDERING THE TYPE OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND OBSTRUCTIONS EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE INDICATED. INSTALL EXPOSED RACEWAYS PARALLEL AND PERPENDICULAR TO NEARBY SURFACES OR STRUCTURAL MEMBERS AND FOLLOW THE SURFACE CONTOURS AS MUCH AS PRACTICAL. RUN EXPOSED AND PARALLEL RACEWAYS TOGETHER. MAKE BENDS IN PARALLEL RUNS FROM THE SAME CENTER LINE SO THAT THE BENDS ARE PARALLEL. FACTORY ELBOWS MAY BE USED ONLY WHERE THEY CAN BE INSTALLED PARALLEL. IN OTHER CASES PROVIDE FIELD BENDS FOR PARALLEL RACEWAYS.

7. RACEWAYS ARE TO BE RUN VERTICALLY IN WALLS. HORIZONTAL CONDUIT RUNS IN WALLS SHALL BE AVOIDED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE ENGINEER AND OWNER’S REPRESENTATIVE TO ROUTE A HORIZONTAL RACEWAY PRIOR TO ROUGH-IN.

8. PROVIDE NYLON PULL STRING WITH PRINTED FOOTAGE INDICATORS HAVING NOT LESS THAN 200 POUNDS TENSILE STRENGTH. LEAVE NOT LESS THAN 12 INCHES OF SLACK AT EACH END OF THE PULL STRING. IDENTIFY WITH TAGS AT EACH END THE ORIGIN AND DESTINATION OF EACH EMPTY CONDUIT AND INDICATE SAME ON ALL EMPTY OR SPARE CONDUITS ON THE AS-BUILT DRAWINGS. PULL STRINGS ARE NOT REQUIRED IN NIPPLES OR SLEEVES UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE.

9. USE SHORT LENGTH (MAXIMUM OF 6 FEET) OF FLEXIBLE CONDUIT FOR RECESSED AND SEMI-RECESSED LUMINAIRES, FOR EQUIPMENT SUBJECT TO VIBRATION, NOISE TRANSMISSION, OR MOVEMENT; AND FOR ALL MOTORS. USE LIQUID-TIGHT FLEXIBLE CONDUIT IN WET LOCATIONS. INSTALL SEPARATE GROUND CONDUCTOR ACROSS FLEXIBLE CONNECTIONS

10. CONDUIT SHALL NOT BE MOUNTED ON DUCTWORK OR OTHER MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT EXCEPT WHERE NECESSARY TO MAKE CONNECTIONS TO ELECTRICAL DEVICES THAT ARE PART OF OR MOUNTED ON SUCH EQUIPMENT. REQUIRED. DESIGN BATTERY BACK UP TO TAKE OVER SUPPLY TO SYSTEM WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF LOSS OF PRIMARY SYSTEM TO 85 PERCENT VOLTAGE. PROVIDE

BATTERY SYSTEM CAPABLE OF OPERATION OF SYSTEM FOR 24 HOURS UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AND THEN FOR 5 MINUTES UNDER ALARM CONDITIONS.

D. CONNECT ADDITIONAL DEVICES TO EXISTING FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL. MODIFY AND UPGRADE PANEL FOR COMPATIBILITY WITH CURRENT CODES AND CURRENT UL REQUIREMENTS AND AS REQUIRED FOR THE ADDITIONAL FEATURES OR EQUIPMENT.

1.8 INSTALLATION OF BASIC WIRING SYSTEM MATERIALS:A. INSTALL ALL WIRING IN RACEWAYS. B. INSTALL WIRING IN EXPOSED IVORY COLORED SURFACE METAL RACEWAY WHERE

SPECIFICALLY NOTED AS ALLOWED ON WALL OR CEILINGS.C. INSTALL WIRES AND CABLES WITHOUT SPLICES. MAKE CONNECTIONS AT TERMINAL

STRIPS IN CABINETS OR AT EQUIPMENT TERMINALS. MAKE SOLDERED SPLICES IN ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS IN CONTROL CABINETS.

1.9 INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS:A. INSTALL FIRE ALARM SYSTEM COMPONENTS AS INDICATED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH

EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER'S WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS AND COMPLYING WITH APPLICABLE PORTIONS OF NEC AND NECA'S "STANDARD OF INSTALLATION."

B. WIRING: WIRING OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEM IS WORK OF THIS SECTION, BUT IS NOT SPECIFICALLY DETAILED ON DRAWINGS. REFER TO THE MANUFACTURER'S SHOP DRAWINGS FOR DETAILED WIRING AND CONNECTION INFORMATION.

1.10 THE EXISTING SYSTEM SHALL REMAIN IN OPERATION WHILE THE NEW DEVICES ARE BEING INSTALLED, TESTED, AND ACCEPTED.

1.11 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL:1. THE COMPLETED FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE FULLY TESTED IN ACCORDANCE

WITH NFPA-72 BY THE CONTRACTOR IN THE PRESENCE OF THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE AND THE LOCAL FIRE MARSHAL. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE THE TESTING OF EACH FIRE ALARM DETECTOR ADDED OR RELOCATED UNDER THIS PROJECT WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FORWARD A COMPLETED CHECKLIST SHOWING EACH DETECTOR OPERATED PROPERLY AND THAT PROPER INDICATION OF DETECTOR OPERATION OCCURRED AT ALL CONTROL PANELS, ANNUNCIATOR PANELS, REMOTE INDICATORS, REMOTE TEST SWITCHES, ETC. IN ADDITION, PROPER INTERLOCKS, DOOR RELEASE, ETC. SHALL BE DOCUMENTED WITH SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT AFFECTED LISTED BY IDENTIFIER. UPON COMPLETION OF A SUCCESSFUL TEST, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SO CERTIFY IN WRITING TO THE OWNER AND GENERAL CONTRACTOR.

2. SUBMIT COPY OF TEST RESULTS IN DUPLICATE AFTER SIGNED BY OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE TO ARCHITECT/ENGINEER, OWNER, AND LOCAL FIRE PROTECTION AUTHORITY. MOUNT COPY OF INSPECTION RECORD IN LEXAN ENCLOSED FRAME ASSEMBLY ON CONTROL PANEL.

B. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE ALL EQUIPMENT AND WIRING PROVIDED UNDER THIS CONTRACT FREE FROM INHERENT MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL DEFECTS FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR FROM THE DATE OF ACCEPTANCE AS SET FORTH IN THE GENERAL CONDITIONS.

1.12 PAINTING AND PATCHING:A. CONTRACTOR SHALL PAINT ALL EXPOSED CONDUIT TO MATCH ADJACENT SURFACES.

ALL SURFACES OR FINISHES DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THIS WORK SHALL BE PROPERLY PATCHED, PAINTED AND/OR REPAIRED BY TRAINED CRAFTSMEN OF THE TRADE INVOLVED.

B. CONTRACTOR SHALL PATCH AND PAINT WHERE OLD DEVICES ARE REMOVED UNLESS THE OLD DEVICES ARE IN BLOCK WALLS OR IN CONCRETE, WHERE THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE BLANK PLATES ON BOXES. BLANK PLATES SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH ADJACENT SURFACES.
