Presentation of Our
Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ into the Temple
When the most pure Mother and Ever-Virgin Mary's
forty days of purification had been fulfilled, she took her first-
born Son to Jerusalem on this, the fortieth day after His
birth, that she might present Him in the temple according to
the Law of Moses, which teaches that every first-born male
child be dedicated to God, and also that she might offer the
sacrifice of a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons, as
required by the Law (Luke 2:22-24; Exod. 13:2; Lev. 12:6-
8).
On this same day, a just and devout man, the greatly
aged Symeon, was also present in the temple, being guided by
the Holy Spirit. For a long time, this man had been awaiting
the salvation of God, and he had been informed by divine
revelation that he would not die until he beheld the Lord's
Christ. Thus, when he beheld Him at that time and took
Him up into his aged arms, he gave glory to God, singing:
"Now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, O Master. .
." And he confessed that he would close his eyes joyfully, since
he had seen the Light of revelation for the nations and the
Glory of Israel (Luke 2:25-32).
From ancient times, the Holy Church has retained this
tradition of the churching of the mother and new-born child
on the fortieth day and of the reading of prayers of
purification.

WINTER FEAST THANK YOU
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make this year's Winter Feast successful. The event continues to grow in popularity every year, so all of the hard work pays off. There are so many people who made it successful and gave of their time, including those who planned, set up, promoted it, coordinated advertising and public relations, donated food, baked, cooked, served customers, cleaned, and organized. We are appreciative of the Egg Harbor Township Key Club members who helped set up and prepare the gym on two differ-ent days, the TLC dance group for their energetic Friday night performance, and the Goya dance group for two excellent dance performances during the weekend.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered during the event. Special thanks to Maria Marinakis for her leadership of Philoptochos, which prepared all of the baked goods, and to Kelly Kyria-kou for baking all of the pastries for the Winter Feast. I'd especially like to thank Toula Chris-topoulos for her baking demonstrations on Saturday, our dedicated cooks (Gus Koltoukis, Ria Pierelli, and Kosta Psilopoulos) who put in many hours and hard work in the kitchen preparing and cooking the large selection of menu items. They were there early in the mornings and stayed until late in the evenings. Also deserving of special thanks are Dino Pierelli and Tom Kotronis. They were there from mornings to evenings, outside, cutting the gyros and grilling the Souvlaki. Saturday's extreme wind and rain made it more difficult, but they were there even in those difficult conditions.
Finally, I’d like to thank Athena Sacco for her tireless efforts to promote the event through So-cial Media. She used various Social Media platforms to spread the word about the event. She then monitored comments about the Winter Feast and communicated with everyone who had questions and needed information about the event. Her efforts drew more people to the event and helped make it more successful, so thank you for this important work.
I hope you also had some fun, good comradery, and fellowship during this winter-time event! We can always use more help, so don't be afraid to jump in. When we send communi-cations out regarding the need for help, this means that we really need it. The more hands we have for events such as this, the easier it is on everyone. Thanks for pulling together as a com-munity to make this Winter Feast a success.
Sincerely,
Brian Sacco

Mrs. Georgia G Bendo
Serving in Albania
Glory to God for all His good gifts!
I am indeed thankful for the gift He gave me in leading me to the missionary path. It is an adventure,
both spiritually challenging and fulfilling.
My call to the mission field was gradual. My parents converted to the Orthodox faith before I was
born and kept my 9 siblings and me as close to the Church as they could. At the Holy Trinity Greek
Orthodox parish I attended in Asheville, NC, there were a number of good, kind, sincere examples of
the faith. As a teenager I was greatly impressed by Orthodox nuns and monks I had met; since they
had left everything to follow Christ.
My parents had also given me a love for travel and during my studies at Duke, I made pilgrimages to
Greece and also spent a semester in Russia where I visited many holy sites. At that time, I knew that I
would not pursue a typical career as all my peers were doing. Around the time of my graduation I
came across the OCMC and spent two years preparing to enter a two-year mission assignment. In
2004, I moved to Tirana, Albania to work with the blessing of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios
as an English teacher at Protagonists School (a private elementary school which had just been started
by the Church in Albania).
Now almost 15 years have passed with many changes, challenges, and blessings. In 2008, Fr. Anasta-
sios and I were married in Tirana. He was then Archbishop Anastasios’ translator, a translator of reli-
gious books, and the editor for the Church’s scholarly journal. Since then he has also become a priest,
serving at the Resurrection Cathedral of Tirana. We have been blessed with 4 children, Vasili (10),
Evdoxia (7), Maria (5), and Xenia (3).
After 9 years as an English teacher, I became the principal of Protagonists School. It has been a period
of intense growth for the school. In six years, the student body has tripled! From the 60 students I
found at the school when I first arrived in 2004, there are now over 1000! Although they are from dif-
ferent religious backgrounds, about half of them participate in our spiritual journey after-school
groups. Almost all of our teachers are baptized. I am very grateful to supporters in America who help
us to continue here through financial support and prayers.
Glory to God for all His good gifts!

Theodore, Commander &
Great Martyr
The holy Martyr Theodore was from Euchaita of Galatia and
dwelt in Heraclea of Pontus. He was a renowned commander
in the military, and the report came to the Emperor Licinius
that he was a Christian and abominated the idols. Licinius
therefore sent certain men to him from Nicomedia, to honor
him and ask him to appear before him. Through them, howev-
er, Saint Theodore sent back a message that it was necessary
for various reasons, that Licinius come to Heraclea. Licinius,
seeing in this a hope of turning Saint Theodore away from
Christ did as was asked of him.
When the Emperor came to Heraclea, Saint Theodore met
him with honor, and the Emperor in turn gave Theodore his
hand, believing that through him he would be able to draw the
Christians to the worship of his idols. Seated upon his throne
in the midst of the people, he publicly bade Theodore offer
sacrifice to the gods. But Theodore asked that the emperor en-
trust him with the most venerable of his gods, those of gold
and silver, that he might take them home and himself attend
upon them that evening, promising that the following day he
would honor them in public. The Emperor, filled with joy at
these tidings, gave command that Theodore's request be ful-
filled.
When the Saint had taken the idols home, he broke them in
pieces and distributed the gold and silver to the poor by night.
The next day a centurion named Maxentius told Licinius that
he had seen a pauper pass by carrying the head of Artemis.
Saint Theodore, far from repenting of this, confessed Christ
boldly. Licinius, in an uncontainable fury, had the Saint put to
many torments, then crucified. While upon the cross, the holy
Martyr was further tormented -- his privy parts were cut off,
he was shot with arrows, his eyes were put out, and he was left
on the cross to die. The next day Licinius sent men to take his
corpse and cast it into the sea; but they found the Saint alive
and perfectly whole. Through this, many believed in Christ.
Seeing his own men turning to Christ, and the city in an up-
roar, Licinius had Theodore beheaded, about the year 320. The
Saint's holy relics were returned to his ancestral home on June
8, which is also a feast of the Great Martyr Theodore.

This Saint was a priest of the Christians in Magnesia, the foremost city of Thes-
saly, in the diocese having the same name. He contested during the reign of Al-
exander Severus (222-235), when Lucian was Proconsul of Magnesia. At the
time of his martyrdom the Saint was 103 years of age.
St. Haralampus is commemorated on February 10th, with the exception when
this date falls on the Saturday of the Souls preceding Lent or on Clean Monday
(the first day of Lent), in which case the feast is celebrated on February 9th.

O wise Haralambos, you were proven an unshakable pillar of the Church of

Wherefore, boldly intercede to Christ that we may be saved.

1. Prepare coffee urn with # of cups and amount of water. Instructions are pasted inside the door of one
of the cabinets. Switch on the coffee.
2. Place coffee cups, plates napkins, forks, spoons on the counter and milk jugs, basket of sugars.
Everything is in the drawers.
3. Take out the money box and place it on the counter.
After coffee is served: Please clean up everything. Empty urn and clean. Count money.
Place in envelope marked
PHILOPTOCHOS COFFEE HOUR,
DATE, NAME OF VOLUNTEER AND AMOUNT.
Money is either given to Faten Dib or slipped under Father George's office door.
Donuts can be picked up free at Minos if you call at 6pm on Saturday evening to request donuts to be put
aside. Minos opens at 7.00am on Sunday, pick up any time after that.
Coffee hour need not be an elaborate affair. It is NOT a competition as to who serves the best spread.
Some ladies love to bake, others do not have the time.
We are thankful to anyone who volunteers just to host a simple coffee hour.
REQUEST FOR GREETERS
Dear Parishioners,
Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7
Our wonderful greeter, Marge Adams, has moved to be near her family in Pennsylvania. We are very grate-ful and inspired by Marge, as she greeted and welcomed our parishioners and visitors, and we thank her for all the years she faithfully served on our Greeter Ministry, since 2013. We wish Marge all the best in her fu-ture home and surroundings. She will be greatly missed by all of us. We hope and pray that she will join us from time to time, which she has promised to do.
Please join us as we continue this meaningful ministry, creating more wonderful, first, and continuing impres-sions. The Great Commission of our Lord begins with us, as greeters, as we welcome everyone, sharing the love of Christ.
If anyone would like to join our wonderful Greeter Ministry, please speak to Ginny Kramvis or email [email protected]
