Many are landmarks such as Capt Hiram’s Resort, Marsh Landing Restaurant and Sebastian City Hall & Police Department. Capp Cus- tom Builders has built over 250 custom homes and over 60 commercial projects. They’ve built homes throughout the Sebastian Highlands, Vero Lake Es- tates, Fellsmere, Micco, Grant, The Barrier Island, Vero Beach and in various developments such as San Sebastian Springs, Harbor Point, Collier Creek, Laurel Reserve, and Fischer Lake Island. The commercial projects that they have had the opportunity to build have included: Churches, Restaurants, Day Care Cen- ters, Doctors, Dentists and Real Estate offices among many others. Capp Custom Builders, Inc. was incorporated in 1986 by Mickey & Liz Capp. They originally moved to Sebastian in 1980 from Boca Raton. They thought it was a great place to raise a family and start a busi- ness. Mickey was introduced to construction at the young age of 15. He would spend his summers working with his uncles in Boca Raton in the fields of carpentry and plumbing. It didn’t take long for Mickey to realize he had a creative talent and an eye for detail. He worked various construction jobs learning the trade with hopes of one day owning his own construction company. That dream became a reality in 1986 when Mickey and Liz decided to start a new and exciting venture of being self employed. Mickey is hands on in the field and Liz manages the office. Mickey and Liz often hear how Capp Custom Builders homes are easily distinguishable from other homes. Rich Rogers has worked with Capp Custom Builders as their draftsman for over 18 years. They attribute the unique Capp Custom Builders style to Rich’s “Old Florida Flare” and Mickey’s “New Florida Flare.” After the 2004 hurricanes, they added over 100 pro- jects to their work load. They started with rebuilding local businesses so that people could go back to work and try to find normalcy in their lives once again. Mickey & Liz are very thankful to have had a dedi- cated and talented crew over the past 23 years that take pride in their work. Even though Mickey is a man of few words, the crew listens and learns when he dis- cusses various construction techniques and they try to please him by getting it right the first time. Mickey & Liz are also grateful for their relationships with their sub-contractors and suppliers. Capp Custom Builders, Inc. uses local and reliable subcontractors and suppli- ers who provide quality workmanship and materials. Most of their clients have done their research and have heard of the quality, integrity and local knowl- edge they bring to the table. Without all of their won- derful clients, they would not be where they are today. A special thanks to their many clients throughout the years. In 2003, Capp Custom Builders, Inc. was awarded the “Pride in Sebastian Appreciation Award” for the new construction of Wisner Controls and in 2009, they were awarded the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce’s Industrial Appreciation Award for “New Large Commercial Building” for the Sebastian Profes- sional Center. Capp Custom Builders, Inc has proudly served Indian River & Brevard Counties for the past 23 years. They are fortunate to have some very nice projects under construction at this time: The Indian River County Board of Realtors Building in Winter Beach, a com- mercial addition for Dr. Shalhoub’s Wound Care Cen- ter, and several single family residences in the Sebas- tian River Area. If you desire a unique style in your home or commer- cial project, contact Capp Custom Builders, Inc. at 772-589-3452 or visit them at 735G Commerce Center Drive or on the web at www.cappcustombuilders.com .

Chances are when you’ve driven around the Sebas-tian River Area, you’ve seen a project built by Capp Custom Builders, Inc. Capp Custom Builders, Inc. was incorporated in 1986 by Mickey & Liz Capp. They originally moved to Sebastian in 1980 from Boca Raton. They thought it was a great place to raise a family and start a busi-ness.

Mickey and Liz often hear how Capp Custom Builders homes are easily distinguishable from other homes. Rich Rogers has worked with Capp Custom Builders as their draftsman for over 18 years. They attribute the

unique Capp Custom Builders style to Rich’s “Old Florida Flare” and Mickey’s “New Florida Flare.”

After the 2004 hurricanes, they added over 100 pro-jects to their work load. They started with rebuilding local businesses so that people could go back to work and try to find normalcy in their lives once again.

Mickey & Liz are very thankful to have had a dedi-cated and talented crew over the past 23 years that take pride in their work. Membership News and Notes

Melbourne International Airport Authority members recently opted for a “buy local” policy similar to the city of Melbourne’s, with one big difference! “Local” as far as the airport authority goes includes In-dian River County. Two of the six authority members voted against extending the policy to Indian River County and questioned why it extended beyond the Melbourne city limits. Supporters pointed out that many of the people flying out of Melbourne don’t live in Brevard County. “We get about a third of our traf-fic from Indian River and St. Lucie counties,” said authority member Bill Potter. “It’s recognition of their patronage.” The airport authority’s adoption of the policy comes as more and more municipalities look for ways to keep more of their contract work and purchasing closer to home. The continuing weak economy has made the policies more attractive because they're aimed at boosting local employment and making sure as many local government dollars as possible remain in the local economy.

Quality of Life Workshop

Are you interested in how Indian River County will look in 10 years, or how well the commu-nity will adjust to change a generation from now? Are you interested in being part of a discus-sion about the “quality of life” in the county today and in the future? The Chamber is hosting a workshop on Thursday, April 22, from 5:30—7 p.m. at the Main Street office. This will be one of half a dozen workshops to be held around the county in April to gather people’s ideas on suitable “quality of life” indicators. This project is being coordinated by Pelican Island Audubon Society, with the help of more than 20 advisors, from all parts of Indian River County, including the chambers of commerce, United Way, area church leaders and leaders of the minority communities. They have started this innovative community based “quality of life” indicators survey project to help guide the county towards an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable future. It is similar to “quality of life” projects in hundreds of other communities across the USA, including Jacksonville and Sarasota. As part of this proc-ess, the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting this April 22 workshop. If you are interested in taking part in the discussion, and have ideas about what topics would make suitable indicators or measures, please contact Beth Mitchell at 589-5969 or the project coor-dinators, Richard Baker at [email protected] and Graham Cos at [email protected].

Small businesses are shift-ing their marketing strategy away from expensive ad buys and are increasingly looking toward social media engagement as the less expensive alternative. According to a recent survey, 70 percent of small to medium sized businesses plan to increase their use of social media in 2010. We are pleased to announce that CCTI/IRSC will offer its Social Media Marketing class at the Historical Sebastian Elementary School on April 16th for only $49.00. If you are interested in learning more about the newest trend in marketing your business, you can register online at the Corporate & Com-munity Training Institute website, www.cctiirsc.com. There are sixteen spaces for this class; however if there’s enough interest, the college will add another class. There is more information on the flyer inside this newsletter!

The luminaria candles line the track and spell HOPE in the stands. They are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the incredible importance of their contributions. The event begins at 6 p.m. Fri-day night and ends Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Please join us in our efforts to "Score A Cure" and Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back.
