Dear Parishioners of St. Rosalie and St. John Bosco,

Greetings in the Lord. May His Peace be with you now and always! Diocesan Priests serve wherever they are assigned by their Bishop to minister to the people. Salesian Priests and Brothers also serve where they are assigned by the provincial, to minister to the people of God in our Salesian Communities. We have come to the time of the year when all the new assignments for the coming 2020-2021 Pastoral Year have been announced. These new assignments bring mixed emotions to the SDBs of the Westbank. First, sadness at the departure of Fr. Greg Fishel, as his 2nd assignment on the Westbank comes to an end. He has been a faithful priest and administrator holding down the fort during some tough times in our parishes. With his sharp mind and ability to not only see but foresee things, and his spirit of generosity, Fr. Greg has been a tremendous help to me these past months. I will miss him greatly. As we bid Fr. Greg farewell, the people of St. John Bosco Parish in Chicago look forward anxiously to the return of their good friend and priest. He ministered there twice previously for a total of nine years. It will be like a homecoming for him – just like when he returned to the Westbank for a second time. In his Chicago ministry, Fr. Greg will get to use his profi ciency in Spanish to minister to people at both St. John Bosco and St. James Churches. Fr. Greg, you will be missed. Blessings upon you and your new ministry in Chicago! Our parishes will be saying thanks and farewell to Fr. Greg the weekend of July 18-19. He will celebrate the Saturday 4pm Mass at St. Rosalie followed by a farewell reception in the Cafetorium. On Sunday, he will celebrate the 9am Mass at St. John Bosco followed by a reception in the Family Life Center. Secondly, joy at the assignment of the newly ordained Fr. John Langan, he is returning to Archbishop Shaw as Coordinator of Youth Ministry. Fr. John previously taught at Shaw when he was a Brother in practical training. Next, sadness at the departure of Bro. Jerry Meegan from Archbishop Shaw. For the past nine years Br. Jerry has zealously labored both at Archbishop Shaw and with Archdiocesan and Salesian Offi ces and Programs for the benefi t of the young. At 78 years of age, he will continue his Salesian Ministry at Mary, Help of Christians Center and the Tampa Cristo Rey High School in Tampa, Florida. There he will be mentoring the young Coordinator of Youth Ministry at the high school, be a member of the Youth Ministry Team, and assist both at the high school and MHC Center’s retreat program. God speed, Bro. Jerry! You will be missed. Tampa is gaining a great Salesian! Also, joy at the arrival of Bro. Tom Junis, a Salesian clerical student, who will teach Religion this year at Shaw. And again, joy at the return of Bro. Simon Song, who will also be teaching Religion. Finally, we excitedly look ahead, to the return of Bro. Rafael Vargas. He did his practical training here at Shaw and will be returning to the Community as he fi nishes up his studies at Loyola. Let us thank God for our rich Salesian heritage and for the wonderful SDBs and FMAs who have served here and will continue to serve the young and the people of the Westbank.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Article 9. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Article 10. Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him.

Article 11. 1. Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense. 2. Article 15. 1. Everyone has the right to a nationality. 2. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.

Article 16. 1. Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. 2. Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses. 3. The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.

Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author.

Article 28. Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized.

Article 29. 1. Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of his personality is possible. 2. In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society. 3. These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

Article 30. Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein.
