INT. BYRON’S HOME - NIGHT

Thunder cracks loudly and lightning flashes frequently.

BYRON, a scrawny man in his forties is an old, badly-dressedfarmer sitting in his living room with his family.

He sees the doorknob turn; the door creaks open revealing acloaked figure. Byron attempts to slam the old, wooden frontdoor to his rustic home, but is unsuccessful.

In his poorly-furnished living room, he and his familyconsisting of his wife, two daughters and one son, attemptto flee; all are slaughtered without the figure havingtouched them. They lay colorless on the ground with wide,bloody eyes and open mouths.

EXT. CHURCH - NIGHT

RAY, an eighteen-year-old African-American male, loosens histie and takes a seat on the curb outside of the grandchurch. He glances at his watch.

INT. CHURCH - NIGHT - SAME

RONNIE (VERONICA), 17-year-old valedictorian and Ray’s bestfriend, spots JEREMY (JAY), a 17-year-old male whoaccompanied her group of friends to prom, hanging all over

his date.

She pulls him off by grabbing his shoulder; his date looksrelieved.

RONNIEHey, Jay.

Jeremy shoots her a dirty look.

RONIEDon’t give me that look. Where’sRay?

JEREMYI don’t know, cock block someoneelse while you figure it out.

RONNIEShe’s not going to sleep with you,asshole.

RONNIE spots KIM, Ray’s ex-girlfriend, dancing with her newboyfriend, ANDERS. She looks over to the red exit sign,sighs, and heads toward it.

EXT. CHURCH - NIGHT

Ray hears heels clicking from behind him and a weak smilecrosses his face.

RAYStop, I’m fine. Just needed freshair. It’s hot in there.

RONNIEI know, you remind me every fiveminutes. Give me something to do asyour best friend, okay?

Ronnie sits down beside him on the curb and rests her headon Ray’s shoulder. He finally looks at her.

RAYSenior prom, huh?

Ray smirks.

RONNIEI guess.

Ronnie takes her head off of his shoulder and reaches in herpurse grabbing a five dollar bill. She tucks it in the

pocket of Ray’s tuxedo; he chuckles.

RAYYou just couldn’t resist. I don’tknow why you would bet me.

RONNIEI was so close, but he made acomment about cock blocking, and itjust slipped out! Damn.

Looks at his watch.

RAY(tries to sound like a sportsbroadcaster)

Ladies and gentleman, with onlythirty-four minutes left on theclock, Veronica James caves! Andthere you have it folks, the answeris no, she cannot, I repeat cannot,

RAYresist informing Jeremy on his lackof ability to get laid!

Ronnie smiles.

RONNIEIt was so pathetic! I felt like Iwas doing him a favor...and her.Poor Stacy Thomas, always gettingstuck with terrible dates.

RAYI’m starting to think she likes it.

RAY(sarcastically)

JENSON, a mutual friend of Ronnie and Ray, calls from adistance.

JENSON(loudly)

Ray, Ronnie quit being lame and getyour asses back to the limo!

Ray and Ronnie look at each other. Ronnie rolls her eyes butsmiles. They get up and cut through cars to join the rest ofthe group by their long, black limousine parked in thechurch’s lot.

NICK and NATASHA, a couple in Ray’s group of friends,Jenson, Jeremy,Ronnie, Kim, and Anders get in the limo. Themusic blaring from the church fades.

INT. LIMOUSINE- NIGHT

The group of friends joke around in the back of the limo.

Nick picks up a bottle of sparkling cider from a tub of icenext to him and shakes his head.

NICKSucks not being twenty one. Whereare we going tonight? ScottBeniston is having a party.

Nick opens the bottle. Only Natasha and Kim grab a cup. Hepours the girls a glass and puts it back in the ice.

ANDERS(skeptically)

Last time that guy threw a party it

was weak. I wanna do somethingworth doing.

KIM(annoyed)

I don’t want to spend the night ofmy senior prom drinking punch withhis parents because he thought theywere leaving.

NICKWhere are we going?

Natasha cuddles up next to Nick.

KIM(excitedly)

How about we go to the traintracks!

JEREMYTrain tracks? For what? I need toget laid.

Ronnie rolls her eyes and Kim exhales sharply.

RONNIEMaybe you would if you ever knewhow to treat your date.

JEREMY(exasperated)

Ronnie, don’t give me thatspeech...again.

JENSON(to the driver)

KIM(sarcastically)

Great, Jenson’s house it is.

JENSONKim, do me a favor and shut the

fuck up.

Jeremy erupts with laughter.

NATASHAYou’re such an asshole.

JENSONLook, if I decided to care aboutwhat anyone thought, rest assuredit wouldn’t be you, Natasha.

ANDERS

Chill the fuck out, Jenson. Shecan’t make a joke without youripping her apart?

NICKJust tell us why we’re going toyour house. Snapping at mygirlfriend is getting old.

JEREMYWhoa, is Nick actually gettingangry?

JENSON(annoyed)

I have an idea of something we cando.

KIMEasy, because he always feels theurge to be a complete dick.

Ray glances over at Kim. They make eye contact for a splitsecond and then look away.

JEREMYSpeaking of dick, I need to getmine wet. Any takers? Ronnie,

JEREMYyou’re lookin’ pretty sexy in thatdress.

Ronnie reaches over and yanks Jeremy’s tie in her direction.

RONNIEThe only time I’m going to touchyour dick is with the set oftweezers I’m going to need to ripit off.

She releases his tie, pats it gently, and flashes a smile.Jeremy looks to Ray to do something.

RAYYou should have seen that coming.No sympathy here.

Jeremy looks to Nick.

NICKDude, she’s been kicking your assfor what, five years? Maybe six?

Jeremy looks to Anders; he shrugs.

ANDERSThat’s what happens when you’re atool.

EXT. JENSON’S HOUSE- NIGHT

Ray and his friends exit the limo. He tips the driver asJenson runs in his house. The rest of the group talk amongstthemselves outside. Jenson comes back with a set of keys onan abnormally large, round keyring and a big smile on hisface.

NATASHA(nervously)

I have a bad feeling.

RAY

I got that feeling as soon asJenson said he had an idea.

(to jenson)Quit with the stupid grin. What arethe keys for?

JENSONRemember how I told you guys myaunt has another stupid projectshe’s making me help her with?

The group is silent. Ray and Jeremy look away and then back

at Jenson.

JENSONThanks for listening...anyway, it’ssome attraction she’s trying to setup.

RAYAnother one? Your aunt has too muchtime and money.

JENSONFuck it, she’s paying me to mow the

lawn and this is a Halloweenattraction. Nothing’s set upyet but the house is creepy itself.

NATASHAI don’t want to go.

JENSON(quick and nonchalantly)

Cool, stay here.

NICKJenson...

JENSONWhat? She said she doesn’t want togo! I’m not going to force her.

ANDERSIt sounds okay. It’s somethingdifferent.

Kim gives him ’the look.’

ANDERSWhat? It’s basically the same ideaas the tracks, but we’ve been tothe tracks.

RONNIEMe too. Sounds like fun.

(to Jeremy)You might as well say yes, you’renot getting laid either way.

JEREMYFuck it, I guess I’m in then.

NATASHA(slightly scared)

Is it supposed to be haunted orsomething?

JENSONNot really, just looks kind ofcreepy.

RAY

I’m not sure I believe you.

JENSONEither go or don’t go but we’rewasting time.

Ray and Natasha look at one another waiting for a decision.

NICKIt’s this or a night with ScottBeniston’s parents.

ANDERS

This town is too small.

JENSONWhat’s it gonna be?

Ray steals a glance at Anders’ arm around Kim and looks backto Jenson. Before he can decline the offer, Ronnie nudgeshis arm with her elbow.

RONNIE(whispers to Ray)

Don’t worry about it. We’ll have agood time. We don’t have manynights like these left, ya know?

Ray looks at Natasha whose eyes are widened in worry.

RAY(slowly)

Uh, maybe, well, yeah, I’m up forit.

Natasha looks away from Ray, and Nick whispers something inher ear. She shrugs her shoulders and the group claps.

JENSONIt’s about damn time! Which carsare we taking?

INT. JENSON’S CAR- NIGHT

While Jenson and Jeremy joke around in the front of theblack SUV. The music blares.

RONNIE(to Ray over the music)

Hanging out with Anders won’t beawkward if you focus on everyoneelse.

Ray nods half listening. He is staring at his phone. Google

pops up. He types in ’7 Deadly Flights.’

INT. NICK’S CAR- NIGHT

Nick takes his right hand off of the steering wheel andplaces it on Natasha’s thigh. He keeps his eyes on the roadbut massages her leg in an attempt to comfort her. Andersand Kim are making out in the back seat.

INT. JENSON’S CAR- NIGHT

Jenson passes the only advertisement he sees; a largebillboard that reads: 7 Deadly Flights coming soon! Jeremyand Ronnie lean toward the window to get a better look, butRay keeps focused on his phone until Ronnie taps hisshoulder.

RONNIELook.

Ronnie points at the billboard.

RAY(to Jenson)

I have to admit, I usually make funof your aunt’s ideas but this isn’tbad.

RONNIEShe might be onto something. Thistown is creepy enough.

JENSONExactly. There’s some stupid storythat goes along with it about somefarmer.

JEREMY

(laughing)Farmer? How old is this story?

JENSONShe said the 1500’s or some shit.

JEREMY1500s? What the hell, we came outhere to see a barn? I would begetting laid.

RONNIEThey had houses in the 1500s,

genius and no you wouldn’t be.

JEREMYYou keep saying that but Beniston’smom was giving me the eye last timeI was there.

RAY(sarcastically)

sure...

Jenson approaches an old, rusty gate in the middle of theroad. He slows down and parks.

JENSONThis is it. The driveway, anyway.

RONNIEI thought we were on a road?

JENSONWe are but it just turns into adriveway. It’s stupid, but it’s oldas hell so that shit was probablynormal back then.

RAYNo it wasn’t.

JENSONDon’t bitch at me about it. I’m notthe shitty architect.

JEREMYI don’t care who designed thisplace. I just need to get the fuckout of this car and take a piss.

Jenson, Ray, Ronnie, and Jeremy get out of the car. Ray

examines the gate closely.

INT. NICK’S CAR- NIGHT

Spotting the others, Nick pulls up to the gate and parks.

NICK(draws the word out)

Okay.

Looks to Anders in the rear-view mirror.

NICKRandom gate?

Anders and Kim shrug.

NATASHA

Glances at Nick but her eyes quickly move to the rusty gate.This is already weird, can’t wejust turn around?

NICK

Babe, I know you’re scared but it’sjust an old house, that’s it and wedrove over an hour to get here.

EXT. 7 DEADLY FLIGHTS - NIGHT

Everyone meets up at the gate. Jenson fumbles with the largekey ring. He has a difficult time getting the gate to open.

NICKHey man, I can try if you want.

JENSONGo for it.

Jenson gestures to the gate and Nick grabs the keys lodgedinto it.

NICKAnyone wanna give me some light?

Kim looks over to a tree twenty feet away.

KIM

Uh, Jeremy has the flashlight andhe’s currently taking a piss.

NICKWho here is shocked?

Nick waits for a response.

NICKNo one? That’s what I thought. Whogave him the flashlight?

RAY

(apprehensively)That would be me, sorry.

ANDERS(to Nick)

This is 2012. I have a flashlightapp.

RAYGood point.

Anders fiddles with his phone, then shines the light towardNick. Nick turns the key until he hears a loud click. He

smiles and nods toward Jenson.

NICKNick saves the night! Help me pushthis thing open.

Natasha places her hand on top of Nick’s.

NATASHAWe’re here, okay? Let’s just lookaround. Promise we won’t actuallygo in the house.

NICKBabe, I can’t promise that. It’sthe whole reason we’re here.

Kim takes a step toward Natasha.

KIM(to Natasha)

Usually I’m on your side, butNick’s right. What was the point indriving an hour to hang out in farmtown?

ANDERSWe could’ve did that at ScottBeniston’s place.

JENSONAnd got free punch while we watchedJeremy try to put moves on Scott’smom.

Natasha lets go of Nick’s hand.

NATASHA

Do what you want, but I’m not goingin.

JENSONNow that that’s taken care of--

NICKJenson...

JENSONWhat? She said she’s not going in.What do you want me to do, throwher in the house?

KIMYou care now?

JENSONLook--

RONNIE(to Jenson)

Jenson, we get it; you love to bean asshole. Let’s pretend you saidsome awful comeback so we can walkup to the house already.

RAY(to Natasha)

I’ll wait outside with you.

Natasha smiles

NATASHAThanks, Ray.

Jenson, Ray, and Anders start to push the gate open; Kim,Ronnie, and Natasha watch. Jeremy quietly walks up behindNatasha.

JEREMY(to Natasha)

What’d I miss?

Ronnie and Kim jump forward; Natasha screams. The guys stoppushing the gate. Nick comes to comfort her.

NICK(to Jeremy)

Come on, man. You know she’sscared.

Natasha goes to hit Jeremy. Jeremy dodges her swings.

JEREMY(laughing)

That’s exactly the point!

NICKWhere the hell were you anyway?

ANDERSWere you also taking a shit?

JEREMY

Nah, I just didn’t want to helpopen that grody ass gate.

RAYSpeaking of, I’m not about to movethis by myself.

Ray, Nick, and Jenson finally push the gate wide enough forthem to make their way through. The group, with theexception of Ray and Natasha give a triumphant holler andstart to walk up the path toward 7 Deadly Flights.

RONNIE(to Nick)

You always were the master atpicking locks.

NICKNot always.



15.

ANDERSHow come I don’t know about thislock picking history?

KIMNick used to be in detention every

other week because he had a littlelock picking obsession.

Ronnie stops walking.

RONNIELittle?

NICKIt wasn’t that bad!

RAYNot that bad? You picked the lock

to principal Atkin’s office!

NICKThat was for Jeremy!

Ronnie begins to walk again.

ANDERS(to Jeremy)

Why’d you need in Atkin’s office?

JEREMYIt was for April Fools Day, which

wasn’t even my idea. Jenson nevergot caught.

JENSON(laughing)

I told you to run, what more couldI do?

RONNIETake my advice and not do it in thefirst place.

ANDERSWhat did they do?

RONNIEThese idiots thought it would befunny to saran wrap his entireoffice.

ANDERS(laughing)

Really?!

KIMIncluding putting bubble wrap in

front of his door so when he walkedin, not only was he pissed, but itscared the shit out of him.

ANDERSThat’s hilarious.

JEREMYA month of detention wasn’t.

JENSON(to Jeremy)

I told you I saw him coming.

JEREMYYou also said it 100 times beforethat to freak me out.

NICKCan you believe I got a month and ahalf of detention just because Iwas the one who let him in? How wasthat fair?

RAYThat was during basketball season,

not track. Jay had the upper hand.

ANDERS(to Ray)

Where were you?

RAY(hesitant)

Nowhere.

JENSONRay is more an idea man.

RONNIE(loudly)

Ray! That was YOUR idea?!

RAYYou told me not to risk gettingcaught, so I didn’t.

RONNIEI can’t believe you would give anidea to Tweedledum, Tweedledumer,and the lock picker.

Kim jumps and points ahead.

KIM(excitedly)

There it is! It looks...

RONNIECreepy.

ANDERSCome on babe, let’s get up close!

Kim grabs Ander’s hand and they walk toward the house.

JEREMY(to Ronnie)

Jenson is Tweedledumer, right?

Ronnie shakes her head and starts walking with Raymond. Therest of the group swiftly follows. Natasha and Nick stay alittle behind.


The group is no longer at the end of the long dirt road, butare all looking at the old mansion. Jeremy takes a sip of

something he’s taken out of his pocket. Ray sees Jeremy lookaround and hurriedly place it back in his pocket.

RAY(to Jeremy)

Flask?

JEREMYDon’t tell Ronnie.

Ray takes Jeremy aside and away from the group.

RAYWhat are you doing?

JEREMYDrinking...?

RAYObviously.

Jeremy pulls the flask back out of his pocket and unscrewsthe lid. Ray taps the flask causing Jeremy to spill alittle.

JEREMYWhat the fuck?

RAYI mean this stuff with Ronnie.She’s practically your sister, man.

JEREMYNo she’s not.

RAYDon’t make shit awkward.

JEREMYHow am I making shit awkward?

RAY(mockingly)

Speaking of getting my dick wet,Ronnie, you’re looking pretty sexyin that dress.

JEREMYShe took it as a joke.

RAYI know it wasn’t a joke.

JEREMYDoes it matter?

RAYI’m just saying watch yourself.

Ray give Jeremy a light slap on his head. Jeremy backs up.

JEREMYWhy? You have a thing for her? Ithought you were still stuck onKim.

RAYI’m not stuck on Kim and I don’thave a thing for Ronnie.

RAYFuck it, let’s just get to thehouse.

Ray walks away. Jeremy takes another sip from his flask,puts it back in his pocket, and catches up to Ray.


The group reaches the actual house. Jenson, Anders, and Kimlook around on the porch. Jeremy and Ronnie sit on the stepswaiting for Jenson to bother opening the door. Nick,Natasha, and Ray stand in front of the house.

NICKYou sure you don’t care if I go in?

NATASHA

If Ray stays out here with me, no.(to Ray)

Are you sure you don’t wanna go in?

RAYI kind of do, but it’s not aproblem to sit out here.

NICKThanks, man.

RAYNo problem.

Nick heads to the porch to join the others. He sees Jensonrummaging through the porch’s contents.

NICKLooking for something?

Kim rolls her eyes and sighs loudly.

KIM(annoyed)

Yeah, the key.

Nick turns sharply to face Jenson.

NICKAre you serious? You said you hadthe key.

Jenson tosses a fake skeleton aside.

JENSONI fucking do, but the mother fuckerwon’t work.

NICKIs it the right key?

JENSONAm I stupid?

KIM(happily)

Is it the right key?

JENSONKim, don’t start with me. This isthe key she gave me. I’ve used itbefore.

Nick takes the key from Jenson and tries to jostle it in thedoorknob.

NICKDamn, I can’t even get anything inthere to budge. Maybe we shouldbreak a window.

ANDERSAll the windows have bars.

KIM(sarcastically)

Cool, so this was a complete wasteof time. I love wasting my time,especially on prom night.

NICK(shouts)

Ray, come help us look for the key!

Ray and Natasha look to Nick in the distance.

RAY(to Natasha)

Did you hear him?

NATASHAI just heard ’key.’

Ray nods toward the porch.



21.

RAYUnless you’d rather stay here.

Natasha looks around at the dark trees.

NATASHA

I’ll come. I just won’t go in.

She and Ray begin to walk toward the house together.


Natasha stands close to the first step leading up to theporch. Everyone else sorts through old Halloween decorationsto help Jenson look for the keys.

ANDERSSome of these decorations are

cheesy. Tell your aunt to invest insome newer shit.

Anders moves the clown from an old rocking chair and sitsdown. He searches his pocket and pulls out a cigarette box,extracts one, and lights it.

RONNIE(to Anders)

Don’t you run track?

ANDERSYour point, Veronica?

RONNIEI prefer Ronnie, and I just thoughtyou planned on running in college.

Anders shrugs.

ANDERSIf I go, maybe.

Anders takes a long drag from his cigarette. Ronnie nods,looks at Kim, and then moves toward Nick.

KIM(quickly)

College isn’t for everyone.

Ronnie gives Kim a quick smile.

RONNIEYou’re right. So, track in college,Nick?

NICKNot sure if I wanna go that route.

RONNIE(surprised)

I thought you loved running.

NICKI do but--

NATASHA(excitedly)

He got into UCLA on full academicscholarship!

Everyone stops searching for the key.

RONNIEThat’s great!

RAY(to Nick)

Way to go, man!

JEREMYWatch out, Ronnie. Nick might besmarter than you. Let the battle ofthe nerds commence!

JENSONPlease, Ronnie is going to Brown.

NICK(sarcastically to Jenson)

Gee, thanks.

Jenson shrugs and Natasha heads up the stairs leading to theporch; she stands on the last one.

JENSONGet over it. I’m going to Duke tobasketball and probably won’tstart, but I’m fine with that.

ANDERSBrown, huh?

RONNIENot just me, Ray too!

ANDERS(to Ray)

Congrats.

RAY(hesitant)

Thanks.

NATASHA(excitedly)

I got into...

Natasha takes a step onto the porch and the oil lamp next tothe front door ignites.

JEREMY

What the fuck? Everyone just sawthat, right?

JENSONNo shit we saw it.

Jenson gets closer to the lamp.

NATASHAJenson, quit trying to scare me.Jay already got me by the gate!

Jeremy laughs.

JEREMY(to Jenson)

It’s true. She jumped like tenfeet.

JENSONDo I look like Harry fuckingPotter? I didn’t do that.

Jeremy places his hand on his chin.

JEREMYI didn’t know Harry’s middle namewas--

ANDERSDid you hear that?

Jeremy stands and backs up.

KIM(to Anders)

What?

Anders flicks his cigarette off of the porch and stands up.

ANDERSIt sounded like...

Anders slowly moves to the front door and reaches for theknob.

KIMIt’s locked.

He touches the knob and turns it; the door creeks open.

RAY(to Jenson)

What the hell?

JENSONIt was locked.

KIMHe’s right.

JEREMYHas to be true. Kim would neveragree with Jenson willingly.

RAY

Good point.

RONNIECan we just go inside? It’s gettingkind of cold.

Ronnie blows into her hands. Ray takes off his tux jacketand gives it to her.

KIMWe probably should’ve changedfirst.

Anders does the same for Kim. Natasha Looks to Nick.

NICKI would, but I left it in the car,sorry babe.

NATASHAIt’s okay. I’m not that cold.

Jenson pushes the door open and everyone except for Ray andNatasha walk inside.

RAYI’m still game to stay out here.

Ray looks to the door and then back at Natasha.

NATASHAI think I’m okay. Jenson and Jeremyare just assholes.

RAYAlright.

Ray turns to walk through the doorway and Natasha grabs his

arm.

RAY(chuckles)

That was fast.

NATASHAI’m still okay. I just want to saythanks. Everyone else is so aboutthis being our last chance to dosomething off-the-wall they didn’teven consider myfeelings...including Nick.

RAYNick just...he wouldn’t have leftyou out here by yourself.

Natasha smiles and they walk into the house. The door slamsshut.

INT. 7 DEADLY FLIGHTS - NIGHT

Ray and Natasha jump and then turn around to see the door isshut. Natasha looks around, but none of their friends are insight. Ray pulls at the door knob and then Natasha bangs onthe wooden door.

RAYIt’s probably just stuck again.



26.

NATASHAYou say that like I should be lessscared. What if we’re stuck in hereall night?

RAY

It opened once, I’m sure it’ll openagain.

They both turn to look around in the mansion.

NATASHASo...what now?

RAYWanna just look for everyone else?

Natasha shrugs.

NATASHANothing else to do.

They start to walk toward a dimly-lit room off to the left.


Anders and Kim make out in a dark, dusty room. He takes histuxedo jacket off of Kim and tosses it aside. As the kissinggets more intense, Anders backs Kim against and wall andruns his hand up her dress.

KIM(out of breath)

Ouch! What the hell was that?

ANDERS(out of breath)

Did you hit her head or something?

KIMNo, it’s my hand. Does the lightwork in here?

ANDERSHow the hell would I know?

Anders backs away from Kim to feel along the wall for alight switch. He finds it and flicks it upward. The lightilluminating the room is dim.

Kim looks at her hand.

KIMHoly shit!

Anders pulls off his ties and wraps it around Kim’s bleedingfinger.

ANDERSHow the hell did that happen?

KIMI don’t know.

She looks over at the wall.

KIMThere’s nothing over here.

She looks at her hand again and then back up at Anders.

KIMI’m gonna get something gross, liketetanus.

Anders laughs.

ANDERSI think you’re okay. It’s not thatbad.

Kim smiles.

KIM

Finish what we started?

ANDERSDefinitely.

She pulls him toward her and they kiss.

RONNIEThat means you should have ananswer prepared.

NICKYou know the answer.

RONNIENatasha.

He nods.

NICKYeah.

RONNIEI got that vibe.

Nick runs a finger across the table. Ronnie slaps his hand.

NICKWhat?

RONNIEDon’t touch it! Now you’re gonnawipe it on your tux.

NICK(laughing)

It’s not that serious.

Ronnie backs up and puts her hands in the air.

RONNIEOkay, but don’t complain to me whenyou have to pay a fee when you

return it.

NICKYou’re too responsible sometimes.

RONNIEHave you seen my friends? Someonehas to be. Jay might’ve died bynow.

Nick makes a fist.

NICKSo it’s you I blame. All this timeI’ve been blaming his parents.

RONNIEYou owe them an apology. Theyactually don’t care what he does.

Nick stops smiling.

RONNIEWhich is why he’s sipping from aflask he thinks I don’t know hehas. He’ll be wasted in fifteenminutes.

NICK

And you didn’t say anything?

RONNIENope.

NICKWhy not?

Ronnie smiles.

RONNIEIt’s prom night.

NICKI retract what I said about youbeing too responsible.

RONNIERetract, huh? You really did getinto UCLA.

NICKEveryone is so surprised.

Silence lingers in the air. Nick and Ronnie gaze at eachother until they hear someone walking up the hall. They bothlook toward the doorway.

RAYUpstairs is a no-go. Everything isblocked off.

NATASHABut the downstairs is so big, who

has the time to look around upthere?

Natasha walks up to Nick and kisses him on the cheek. Ronnielooks away.

RONNIE(to Ray)

Suppose it’ll be a waste lookingfor everyone else?

RAYMaybe not. I think--

They hear a loud thump. Natasha jumps and Ronnie rolls hereyes, and peeks out into the hallway.

RONNIEI knew it.

Jenson comes around the corner with Jeremy.

NICKWhat the hell happened?

JENSON

(aggravated)This mother fucker trippedover absolutely nothing.

JEREMY(slurring)

Yeah guys, I’m okay!

RONNIECan you believe that?

Anders and Kim enter the room.

ANDERSI know. Jay had liquor this wholetime and didn’t think to share it!Selfish prick.

Kim and Anders move further into the room and the diningroom door slams shut.

RAY(to Jenson)

What the hell is up with the doorsin this house?

JENSONBeats the fuck outta me. I--

The lights go out and Natasha clings onto Nick. Another oldoil lamp, centered on the dining room tables, ignites nextto a small black book.

JEREMY(slurred)

Who turned off the light?

Ray gives Jeremy a small tap on the back of his head.

RAY(to Jeremy)

Idiot.

Anders walks toward the table and picks up the book.

KIMWhat are you doing?

ANDERSClearly Jenson set us up, so I’mplaying along.

JENSONI have nothing to do with the shitthat goes on in here. I told youguys, I just mow the lawn.

Anders looks at Jenson and raises his eyebrows and picks upthe book.

ANDERSThis isn’t even old. It was madelast year.

Jenson hold his hand out.

JENSONLet me see that.

Anders tosses the book to Jenson who catches it.

JEREMY(a little less slurred)

I’m more interested in who turned

off the lights.

JENSONIt looks like the history of thishouse.

A white screen drops behind Ray; Natasha and Kim squeal. Kimbacks up into an old film projector. Lord Byron’s storyscrolls up the white screen.

Kim reads.

KIM

In the 1500’s, Lord Byron’s familyfaced hard times. He could nolonger afford to take care of theanimals on his farm, or his family;they began to starve. Then a hoodedfigure came to him in the night andmade him an offer. To keep hisfamily alive, he had to murder eachperson brought to his doorstep.Byron refused, but hunger is apainful, slow way to watch yourfamily die. The figure returnedwith the same offer, he accepted.

Byron was brought eight peoplepeople to slaughter. Each time hekilled, he buried the body underthe house and added a new floor tohis home to get further away fromhis sins. He could no longer takeit; he let the eighth victim walkaway. Now, the souls beneath thehouse are angry and jealous. Ittakes exactly eight people toprovoke them, reminding them oftheir fate. Each floor in thishouse will claim a life whilethe last one standing gets to walkaway.

The projector stops rolling and they stare at each other indisbelief until the door whips open.
