14 Days of Prophetic Prayer

Join in with us this week for 14 days of Proclaimed Fasting, Praying and consecration time with God.

The Power of your Prayers and your Confessions of Faith will shape your future in 2009!

Prayers and Confessions Based on the Word

Too many Christians struggle along, desperately begging God for things He has already promised, or already declared that He has given to us.

Emotionally tormenting oneself does not impress God or move Him to respond. God responds to faith. Without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6).

You will shape your future in the Year 2009 by the words you speak prophetically according

to the word of the Lord!

Behold the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring

forth I tell you of them… Isaiah 42:9

Behold I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth… Isaiah 43:18-19

Mt 12:34-37 Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh…For by thy words thou

shall be justified and by thy words shall thou be condemed…

Your very words coming out of your mouth is what going to determine your future…You

can either speak life or death to you situation…

Proverbs 18:21 The power of life and death are in the power of the tongue…

Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of Life…

Day 1: Start your Day with prayer time with God

Daily Confessions

Your tongue is a very powerful instrument. It can either call down blessings from heaven or bring curses (failure) into your life. The Bible says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" (Proverbs 18:21).

If there are areas in your life that need changing, your tongue is the best tool to use to bring about that transformation. Make the following confessions daily and the promises of God will manifest in your life.

Abiding in God Through Fellowship

Abiding, or resting in confidence in God, involves fellowshipping with Him through prayer and reading His Word. This helps to build your faith in His ability to do great things in your life. The Father loves to hear your voice speaking His Word in full assurance that His promises will come to pass.

In the name of Jesus, I declare that God is my Father and I have a right to fellowship with Him intimately. Fellowship with Him is the distinguishing mark of my life. His Word strengthens and leads me to prosperity.

I abide, rest in and trust the promises outlined in God's Word, and He manifests His goodness in my life. I am connected to my Father's power and I can do all things through the Anointed One and His Anointing Who strengthens me!

Quick note:

Fasting is mentioned over seventy times in the Bible. It is a powerful Christian discipline that any believer can exercise for spiritual matters. The dictionary describes it as “a deliberate and prolonged abstinence from food for spiritual purposes.” Fasting helps Christians to deny the physical and give more attention to spiritual needs. It frees us from temporal activities and mundane matters of life. Job said, “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12).

Day 2: MY Confession of Faith…

“I shall abide under the Shadow of the Almighty and he gives his Angels charge over me…Ps.91”

Because I am the righteousness of God, angels have been sent to minister to me. They respond to the Word of God which I speak. Therefore, I loose angels with the words of my mouth.

I say today, let the Lord be magnified who takes pleasure in my prosperity. In the name of Jesus, I command the angels to bring to me prosperity in my spirit, in my home, in my body, in my family life, and in my finances.

I declare promotion and command the angels to bring promotion into my life. I have a blood-bought covenant promise from God Almighty to multiply exceedingly. Therefore, I confess I am exceedingly fruitful and blessed, right now, in Jesus name! I command the angels of God to go and bring this covenant to pass in my life now! I have the power to get wealth, and release the angels to bring wealth into my life.

I declare right now that I am healthy, healed, delivered, and freed from the bondage of sin. I am the head always, and never the tail. I am above only, and never beneath. I lend, not borrow, and everything I put my hands to prospers.

I walk in the favor of God and my favor is increased even as I am speaking. I have more than enough money to pay every bill that comes in, and I declare I am totally debt-free now! I have the authority of Heaven and in the name of Jesus, I declare that whatever I bind on the Earth, is bound in Heaven, and whatever I loose on the Earth, is loosed in Heaven.

I am free from unforgiveness and I set my will to forgive anybody for anything, no matter what! I walk in the love of God toward everyone, no exceptions! I send my angels forth right now, to do God’s pleasure and bring these words to pass. Angels, go now, and minister prosperity unto me, in Jesus name!

Father, I thank You in advance for all You have done on my behalf. Like You, I have declared what will be and am committed to calling those things that be not as though they are. Right now I rejoice, and Iam exceedingly glad that you have granted to me the petitions I have requested, while I am yet speaking. My total life prosperity is settled now, and with great expectation, I will continuously speak faith-filled words, and allow my every word and thought to confirm what I believe I have received, in Jesus name. Amen.

Quick note:

Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough.

3

Fasting and prayer can restore the loss of the "first love" for your Lord and result in a more intimate relationship with Christ.

Fasting is a biblical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God (Psalm 35:13; Ezra 8:21).  King David said, "I humble myself through fasting.

Fasting enables the Holy Spirit to reveal your true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance and a transformed life.

The Holy Spirit will quicken the Word of God in your heart and His truth will become more meaningful to you!

My Prayer thoughts (request) for today___________________________________________

Day 3: Confessions of faith based on God’s Word bring into existence those things God has promised.

Answered Prayer

Faith-based confessions bring into existence those things God has promised. As you confess what God says about you, the evidence will manifest (Isaiah 44:26). Here are some confessions to help to establish your faith for answered prayer.

In the name of Jesus, I declare that I have a blood-bought right to answered prayer. The Word of God is my guarantee. Father, by prayer, supplication and with thanksgiving, I can make my requests known to You. You hear the prayer of the righteous and answer them. Your eyes are on me and Your ears are open to hear my prayers.

I am connected to Christ Jesus, and I am anointed. In everything I do I am more than a conqueror. Because I abide in You, and Your Word abides in me, I see the manifestation of answered prayer. When I speak Your Word, it does not return without accomplishing what it was sent to do.

Lord, I thank You that I walk in favor with man and with You. Wherever I go and whatever I do, Your favor goes before me. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much. Therefore, I believe I receive what I pray for right now. In Jesus' name, Amen!

Quick note:

Fasting can transform your prayer life into a richer and more personal experience.

Fasting can result in a dynamic personal revival in your own life, and make you a channel of revival to others. Fasting and prayer are the only disciplines that fulfill the requirements of II Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

4

If you fast, you will find yourself being humbled.  You will discover more time to pray and seek God's face.  And as He leads you to recognize and repent unconfessed sin, you will experience special blessings from God.

Fasting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines.

Day 4:” I confess the Blessings (benefits) of Fasting in my Life”

Make the word personal insert yourself in God’s Word

"And the LORD shall guide (me) continually, and satisfy (my) soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and (I) shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.    And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in"  (Isaiah 58:11-12).

As you meet God’s prerequisites, God will bring twelve benefits into your life.  (1). Your light to rise in obscurity (out of darkness).  (2). Your darkness (gloominess) shall be as bright as the light at noon.  God continues the list of benefits in the next several verses.     (3). The Lord will guide you continually. (4) He will fill your soul (mind, will, emotions) to satisfaction in a time of drought.  (5).  He will make your bones fat.  The bones are the manufacture of the blood cells.  Healthy bones produce healthy blood cells for the rest of the body.  (6). You shall be like a watered garden (alive, growing, and productive).  (7). You will be like a spring of water, gushing up by it own power. (8). You will be like a spring that does not go dry. (9). You will build up the old waste places.  Wherever your life has been wasted, God will make a blessing from it.  (10). You will raise up the foundations of many generations.  The generational curse will be broken.  You will build where others stopped short. (11)  You will gain the name, "The repairer of the breach".  (12) You will gain the reputation of being the one who got back on the right path of holiness living as one should live.

Quick note:

Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life.

Fasting is one of the most neglected spiritual admonitions.  In fact, it has been ignored for so long that it is difficult to find information on the "how-to's" for this life-changing experience.  When I first undertook an extended fast, I had difficult time finding information on the nature of a Biblical fast, how to start, what to expect physically and spiritually and how to terminate a fast.

. My Prayer thoughts (request) for today___________________________________________

5

Day 5: Your Right to Answered PrayerAs the righteousness of God, you don't have to beg God to hear and answer your prayers. You have a right to stand boldly in His presence and get all the answers you need. Begging does not motivate Him.

Many believers have a case of "mistaken identity." They mistake their relationship with God as a Master-to-slave, rather than a Father-to-child, relationship. They relate to Him like a slave relates to his owner. A slave begs and accepts whatever crumbs fall off of his master's table. A child, on the other hand, knows he has every right to live well, just like his father.

God can't and doesn't find pleasure in faithless prayer. Your prosperity and faith please Him (Psalm 35:27; Romans 1:17; Hebrews 11:6). Therefore, go into His presence with confidence knowing that you are His child and have every right to the best in life. As the righteousness of God, you deserve all He has to offer. You have a divine inheritance of good health, wealth and total life prosperity!

The Cry of the Righteous

Don't take lightly what the Bible says about your inheritance. "Righteousness" is more than a fancy Christian term. It is God's stamp of approval and the key to receiving your inheritance. Unless you are convinced that you are the righteousness of God, you will never develop the assurance that you can have answers to your prayers.

Psalm 34 will encourage you when it seems like your prayers are going unanswered. It is addressed to righteous people who seek the Lord and trust Him. Verses 15 and 17 in the New International Version say, "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry ¦The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles."

The word cry in these verses is not referring to tears. It means to "call out for help." As the righteousness of God, when we call out to Him in faith, He hears us and delivers us from trouble. Why? Because He is always attentive to our voices and ready to respond when we're in trouble. The faith-filled cry of the righteous is a trigger that causes our Heavenly Father to move quickly on our behalf!

Jeremiah 33:3 is a promise from God which says, "Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things" (The Amplified Bible). If you desire for God to do great and mighty things in your family, finances, health and other areas of your life, call on Him in faith. First John 5:14-15 says to have confidence, knowing that when you pray according to the will of God, which is the Word of God, He hears you. And when He hears you, He will grant your requests.

Praying according to the Word gets the Father's attention because He only responds to the language of His Word. It is your guarantee to getting results. You can count on it!

Quick note:

What is the chosen fast?

Isaiah 58:6-13

6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

6

7Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

It is to untie whatever holds you to do wickedness, including the unforgiveness that you hold toward others.  Jesus came to destroy all the works of the devil (I John 3:8).  This fast is for the purpose of undoing the heavy burdens.

It seems difficult to set aside 7 days of consecration. The fast is to let the oppressed (literally the bruised) go free. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised" (Luke 4:18).

The fast is to break EVERY YOKE.  I don't know what holds you in bondage, but the chosen fast is meant  to set you free!

My Prayer thoughts (request) for today___________________________________________

Day 6 : Doing Church as a Team: Every-Member Ministry

The church should not cede ministry only to those pastors or bishops who are able to give full-time attention to it, but the members themselves should consider themselves the main conduit of ministry in the church.

The aim is to press upon the church the importance of every-member ministry and encourage the church to work together as a team rather than placing the expectations of ministry on the shoulders of the ordained.

It is “the divine responsibility of every single one of us.” Laymen, as well, as ordained ministers are commanded to do the work of the ministry; what that ministry is for a certain person will be determined how God has gifted that person for service. God has a plan for everything, the job of the church member is to discover what those gifts are, patiently wait for the right opportunity, and begin to use those gifts for the good of the ministry.

By considering their desires, experience, spiritual gifts, individual style, growth phase of life, and natural abilities, church members will be able to find a ministry that will serve the church, further the spread of the gospel, and bring them great joy. Pastors, for their part, are to facilitate this kind of ministry among the laity.

Pastors are the ones who cast vision, build the team, and equip the members, but the ministry is to be accomplished by the church members. Pastors and leaders are to “equip God’s people to do the work of the ministry,” to “mend the nets” of the laity.

7

Evangelism is not accomplished primarily by sitting in place and hoping the world shows. It is not the sole job of those who are professional ministers in the church. On the contrary, evangelism is done by church members who are convinced that their jobs and positions in the world are conduits for the spread of the gospel. Their primary calling in life is to be example and share the gospel with a dying world. “In every city, every town and every country, you will find full-time ministers, differently gifted and differently made, in every business and vocation. . . . God salts the earth with His ministers, giving them gifts with which to influence their friends, families and coworkers . . .

My Confessions of Divine Favour

Concerning Total Life Prosperity:

A. Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest over my profession, and what I profess is the Word of God concerning favor over my life (Hebrews 3:1).

B. The Lord helps me to guard the door of my mouth and trains me not to speak against His favor at work in my life (Psalm 141:3, AMP).

C. I will not allow any corrupt communication to proceed out of my mouth. Instead, I will speak only that which is good, full of grace and edifying to others (Ephesians 4:29).

D. As the righteousness of God, I declare that I am favorable in God's sight (Job 33:26, AMP; Psalm 5:12; Proverbs 14:9).

E. Like Joseph, I prosper wherever I go and in every situation I am in because the Lord is always with me. I, too, experience preferential treatment (Genesis 39:1-6, 21).

F. I am blessed and highly favored (Luke 1:28).G. I associate with those who are blessed and highly favored so that I may

increase in every area of my life (Genesis 30:27).H. I operate in integrity; as a result, I obtain favor from God (Proverbs 11:27;

12:2).I. I actively seek and live by God's wisdom; therefore, I am highly favored and

esteemed in the sight of God and men (Proverbs 3:1-4; 8:33-35).J. I declare that God's favor promotes and causes me to increase daily (Esther

2:17; Psalm 75:6-7).K. The Lord takes pleasure in my total life prosperity (Psalm 35:27).L. Because I am God's "favorite," I prosper in every area of my life-spiritually,

physically, financially, socially and mentally (3 John 2).M. Because the favor of God shields me, no sickness or disease has a right to live

in my body (Deuteronomy 7:15; Psalm 5:12).N. Wealth and riches are in my house because I am empowered with His

anointing and favor to draw wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18; Psalm 112:3).

Quick note:

(Isaiah 58:7). Here we see that we are to take our eyes off ourselves which may seem difficult to do especially if we are working seven days a week.  If we fast one day, we can refocus our attention on

8

helping others with food, shelter, and clothing.  This fast is not just about you it’s about ministering to the need of others.

In the next two verses, we see some benefits.  "Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.    Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am" (Isaiah 58:8-9a).  Your light shall begin to shine as the light at the breaking of the day.  Darkness shall suddenly disappear.  Your health (or healing) shall spring forth rapidly.

Also the glory of God will be your rear guard.  Remember the cloud and pillar that stood between the Israelites and the Egyptians (Exodus 14:19-20).  Furthermore, when you pray, God will answer your prayers. When you cry out to God, He will make His presence known unto you.

God gives more instructions for Isaiah to give to the people in the next couple of verses. "If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday" (Isaiah 58:9b-10).

You may just like to be in the center of attention and in control.  You are to minister to the physical needs of others ... "draw out thy soul to the hungry."  However, you are also to minister to the emotional needs of others ...."satisfy the afflicted soul."   Literally, this means that you are "to fill to satisfaction" the "depressed" soul.

My Prayer thoughts (request) for today___________________________________________

Day 7: Honor the Sabbath Day and keep it Holy

"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

At this point, God draws Isaiah to the basic topic, the Sabbath.  We have the tendency to try to start a new topic here, but this is not what God intended.  God doesn't provide any transition for a new topic.  Instead, He dovetails the Sabbath into the previous discussion, making the whole of the "chosen fast" the Sabbath observance.

"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:    Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it" (Isaiah 58:13-14).

    God begins with the requirements.

9

(1). We are not to do our own pleasures on the Sabbath. We should also note that God calls it HIS holy day.  It is not any day that we choose, but the day that He has chosen.

(2). We are to call the Sabbath a delight.  It is to become a day that we look forward to embracing.

(3). It is to be "the holy of the LORD."  The word "holy" means to be set apart.  In the American society, there is no distinction between the Sabbath and any other day.  If anything it is desecrated by doing business, entertainment, partying, and drunkenness more than another other day (Friday after 6:00 p.m. to Saturday at 6:00 p.m.).

(4). We are to call the day honorable (that is worthy of honor).

(5). We are to honor the LORD on the Sabbath.  If the president walked into the room, you would naturally stand up and give attention to him.  We should give our attention the LORD on the Sabbath.

(6). We are not to do "our own thing" or "our own plans" on the Sabbath.

(7). We are not to indulge ourselves in our own pleasures on the Sabbath. (8). We are not even to speak our own words on the Sabbath.  We should seek God as to what He would have us say.  We should see that there is a sense of self-restraint or self-discipline in observing the Sabbath.  Observing the Sabbath is a type of fasting from the desires of the flesh.

Jesus said,  "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" (Luke 9:23).

Once we deny self and even die to self, we are free to follow Jesus.  We become free to "delight thyself in the LORD." We are to make God our "light." Then God will do two things. (1). He will cause us to ride upon the high places of the earth.  This means that He will exalt us to positions of recognition.  (2). He will feed us with the heritage of Jacob.

God gives the final word, "... for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it" (Isaiah 58:14).  God said it.  It shall be accomplished.  "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11).  Amen

Quick note: Zion must travail…

Historically, a spirit of travailing prayer among those involved has preceded every major move of God in every generation. Just as babies are born through the travail of the mother, so spiritual babies are born through the spiritual travail of the saints of God. If we’re not seeing new converts in our churches, it may be because we’ve neglected to allow the Holy Spirit to work through us and help us in travailing prayer!

In our day, we’ve replaced prayer with technological advances, programs that appeal to the unsaved, and events geared to cater to the flesh of the

10

saint and sinner alike in order to draw a large crowd. And that’s the reason we sometimes lack the spiritual results that we know we should see in the church.

I believe that the Spirit of God is searching through every local church looking for those who will yield to the spirit of prayer and travail. He wants to once again invade our parched lives with life from heaven! And it will only happen as we pursue the Holy Spirit’s aid in prayer!

My Prayer thoughts (request) for today___________________________________________

Day 8 : When we don’t know what to pray for…

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the heart knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27)

I Timothy 2:1 reads, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men…” One of the prayers that we can pray as noted in this verse is the prayer of intercession. Webster’s Dictionary defines to intercede as: 1) to plead or make in behalf of another or others and 2) to intervene for the purpose of producing agreement; mediate.

Of course, we never intercede for ourselves! This is a prayer that is always prayed for others. To intercede in the biblical sense also means to take another’s place.

There is a deeper realm of prayer available that many believers have not known existed. There is a realm of intercession that goes beyond the mental and reaches into the spiritual world for aid and help for others. We are often confronted with our inability to know how to pray effectively for others. And that is where the Holy Spirit comes to help us!

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the heart knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27).

This verse reveals some rich treasure for our prayer life! Notice in the first part of the verse that it says “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.” Our weaknesses are that we don’t know how to effectively pray. And the Holy Spirit comes to our aid to enable us to pray

11

productively. The word helps is the compound word sunantilambano in the Greek language. It means to take hold together with against. When we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit will take hold together with us against the situation and will help us pray it through to victory.

I believe that the phrase “with groanings which cannot be uttered” in verse 26 refers to praying in the Spirit, or praying in other tongues. The Amplified Bible translates this phrase “with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.” The New English Bible reads, “but through our in articulate groans the Spirit Himself is pleading.”

Believers that are baptized with the Holy Spirit have the ability to pray in the Spirit, or in other tongues (see Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44-46; Acts 19:1-6). And sometimes, if we will give ourselves to some extended time in prayer, the Holy Spirit will “take hold together with us against” certain things we’re praying about.

Sometimes, in praying for the lost, we may find that travail in the Spirit will manifest. Remember that in Isaiah 66:8 we read, “as soon as Zion travailed she brought forth her children.” The apostle Paul mentioned this travail in praying for new believers in Galatians 4:19 when he said, “My little children of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” He was praying for their spiritual maturity and as he did, he found himself travailing in prayer for them. This travail mentioned in Isaiah 66 and Galatians 4 is the same as what is mentioned in Romans 8: 26 when we read of the Holy Spirit helping our weaknesses in prayer.

The Ole pioneers of church found themselves praying this way before and during moves of God that changed many lives. Charles Finney attributed the revivals that accompanied his ministry in America in the 1800’s to the spirit of prayer that prevailed. One man, Father Nash, would often come to a city several weeks prior to Finney’s revival meetings. He would check himself into a hotel and pray, not even coming out to eat for days at a time. On one occasion, the owner of the hotel where he was staying was concerned because of the groaning noises that he heard coming from Father Nash’s room. He inquired of Finney when he arrived if Finney knew what was wrong with the man. Finney replied that he should not worry because Father Nash was simply travailing in prayer for the upcoming meeting. A great move of the Spirit of God followed.

I want to encourage you to begin a sincere life of prayer and intercession. The salvation of the lost depends on our obedience in prayer. Instead of criticizing your church leaders, turn your energy toward standing in the gap for your pastor, church family, and community. Ask the Lord for the rain of the Spirit to fall in your community and church. Become a part of the solution to the spiritual luke warmness of our times and not a part of the problem. The Holy Spirit is awaiting our commitment to prayer. Let’s get after it!

Day 9

Prayer Confession for the Unmarried(singles)

12

Sexual Abstinence

A. My body was not made to participate in any kind of sexual activity outside of marriage; instead, it was made to glorify God (1 Corinthians 6:13-20). My body belongs to Him because He purchased it with the blood of Jesus. As a result, the Holy Spirit came to live inside of me, and I am now one with God. I will not defile this temple by having sex before marriage.

B. I choose not to look at anyone in a lustful way (Matthew 5:28). I know how to abstain from sexual sin and honor God with my body (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4).

C. I purpose not to damage my soul (my mind, will and emotions) by participating in sex outside of marriage (Proverbs 6:32). Neither do I go to places or associate with people who tempt me to have premarital sex (Proverbs 7:7-8).

D. I allow the wisdom and knowledge of God to control my thoughts so I can avoid the immoral people who try to seduce me (Proverbs 2:10,16).

E. I guard my heart and mind by meditating on God's Word daily. I will not allow any immoral thoughts to stay in my mind. Instead, I cast down every thought that is contrary to God's Word by speaking the Word over my life. I do not look to the right or to the left, but straight ahead to the Word of God (Proverbs 4:23-27; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

F. I will not allow past sins to hinder me from inheriting the blessings of God (Romans 4:7; 1 John 1:9; Acts 26:18; Colossians 1:12-14; Ephesians 1:6-7).

Day 10 Prayer Confessions for the Married

Confessions for Being a Godly Husband

I decide this day to love my wife, to give up my interests, to take on her interests, to not be controlling, but to be a godly leader by educating myself in the ways of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Today I declare that I’m a different man and when I go home, my family is going to see a different man. I am a man of love, right now, in Jesus’ name.

I boldly confess that I am a loving, caring, attentive husband. As God’s Spirit works in me and transforms me more and more into the image of Jesus Christ, I am becoming a better husband to my wife because I love her deeply and I regularly show my love to her. She feels secure and confident in our relationship. As a result, she is willing to follow me wherever God leads and is supportive of my decisions. Investing in my life partner is the best investment I can make in my own life. Therefore, I choose this day to invest love and attentive care into my relationship with my wife—the most important person in my life. I declare this by faith, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Ten Things to Do to Honor Your Wife

13

A. When you and your wife approach a door, open the door for her and let her go through first.

B. When your wife walks up and down the stairs and when she gets in and out of the car, show enough consideration for her to reach out and take her by the hand, helping her up and down the steps and in and out of the car.

C. Instead of spending all the extra money you have on yourself and on your personal pleasures, sacrifice a few of your own desires and give her the extra money to spend it doing something she likes to do.

D. Tell your wife often how beautiful she is to you. E. Speak honorably of your wife in front of your children. F. Take your wife to dinner or lunch often. G. Call her during the day just to let her know that you’re thinking about her. H. Make time in your schedule to be only with your wife. I. Men don’t like to write notes, but women love to receive them so write your

wife a love note. J. Always remember special dates, such as your wife’s birthday and your

wedding anniversary.

Confessions for Being a Godly Wife I confess that I am a supportive wife who demonstrates love in the way I approach my husband. He doesn’t see me as a nagging, complaining wife, but as a friend to confide in and to look to for strength. God is able to speak to my husband without my interference. I trust God to speak to him. I trust God to deal with my heart and help me take on a supportive role in our home.

I confess that I live a powerful, godly and chaste life before my husband. Therefore I am a constant encouragement to him. He seeks my advice. He wants my help. He desires to know what I believe is right regarding decisions affecting our family and our relationship. God’s Spirit is changing me and making me the kind of wife that He wants me to be. I declare this by faith, in Jesus’ name.

I confess that the beautifying of my spirit is a high priority in my life. I don’t make the mistake of putting all my time and effort into improving my outward appearance while forgetting to invest in my spirit. I’ve made a decision that my spirit is beautiful. I’m becoming more godly and beautiful all the time. I have an inward beauty that far outshines everything that I could ever do to improve the appearance of my outward man.

I confess I am a source of stability and power. I am a source of peace in my home. I don’t give in to anger. I don’t fly into a rage and say things that I will later regret. My husband and my children depend on me to be a tower of strength even in the midst of turmoil because I am so stable. I help bring stability to my husband, to my children and to the general atmosphere in my home. Instead of being a contributor to strife, conflict and turmoil, God uses me to bring peace and tranquility to all those who are near me. I release my faith now, in Jesus' name.

Effective Communication Between Spouses

Love must be demonstrated through actions and words. However, if you have spent months, or even years, tearing down your mate with hurtful words, you must train yourself to speak affectionately toward him or her. Begin today by making a conscious decision to change.

In the name of Jesus, I will not let any corrupt communication proceed out of my mouth, but only that which is good for edification. I am quick to listen and slow to speak. My words are acceptable to the Lord. I will put a guard on my mouth and keep the door of my lips shut from speaking anything ungodly. I will love my mate with affectionate words and genuine concern. I aim for and am eager to seek harmony in my marriage by building up my spouse. Amen!

Day 11 You must make time…

We must make time with the Lord a number one priority. There are lots of choices in life, and those choices will determine the priorities in our lives. So we must be careful or the "busyness" and simple pleasures of life may crowd out our time with the Lord.

1. The Word of God

Start with the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God. The Bible reveals God. God is a living being. He's a person. And because the Bible is the Word of God, because it reveals who God is, it is one of the most necessary ingredients for having fellowship with God. We need to spend time reading the Word of God to learn about God.

It may sound simple to say, "Read the Word." But many of us have tried without much success. Not only do we need to read the Word, but we also need to understand it and apply it to our lives. Have a Plan. When you read the Word of God you need to have a plan, or you'll probably give up very quickly. Some people try to read the Word, but they don't have a plan. Their plan is simply to open up their Bibles and read whatever page is in front of them. Occasionally, their eyes will fall on a particular verse and it will be exactly what they needed for the moment. But we should not depend on this type of random reading of God's Word. If your reading is planned and systematic, you will gain a better understanding of the context of a passage and come to learn the whole counsel of God rather than just bits and pieces.

2. Prayer is the second essential ingredient of fellowship with God.

Prayer is simply talking to God. Through prayer, not only do we talk to God, but He talks to us. Jesus perfectly demonstrated what a prayer life should be like. He often withdrew to lonely, solitary places and prayed. Here are four practical suggestions on prayer that we find in the life of Jesus.

Find a Quiet Place. You're probably thinking, "You haven't been to my house - there's not one!" Then find the quietest place you can. If it's possible for you to leave and go to a quiet place, do that. But be consistent. Find a place where you can go consistently. In Mark 1:35 it says, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." (NIV)

Day 12-14Why do we need to fellowship with each other...?

We read in Genesis 2 that after making Adam, before the fall into sin occurred, God said “It is not good for man to be alone”. We all need others to be with, laugh with, cry with, walk life together with. And for us as Christians it is especially important that we have fellow Christians to share our spiritual journey with.

Admitting our need for each other…

“Fellowship together”. That will be the theme for your next 3 days readings starting tomorrow; the first devotion entitled “Admitting our need for each other”. Now that is not an easy thing to do for many of us. Whether we come from Dutch, Afrikaans or even Aussie stock, we are fiercely independent people, many of us highly professional, with backgrounds where we needed to maintain a protective ring around ourselves; we are quite self-sufficient individuals. We have a determination and pride, and, especially for the men, to admit a need, to ask for help, to share a struggle, is seen as weakness and failure. But we must be careful that our strength does not become our weakness, our downfall. As some one said in a small group last week, we are in a “flood of people”. Yet the irony is that many are lonely.

I am a fortress deep and mighty/ That none may penetrate/I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain./Its laughter and loving I disdain/I am a rock, I am an island….And a rock feels no pain/And an island never cries”. Yes, we may protect ourselves from pain, it can save you from crying if you put up your barriers. But have you lived? Have you lived as God wants you to live? Listen to what the apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:5 “so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

The Greek has an interesting turn of phrase here: “One body in Christ we are and each one of one another members.” So God’s Word does not see us as rugged individuals, but people who are part of each other; we are parts of one body (you are my leg, I am your eye!). Our being one body has to do, first of all, with our relationship with Jesus. Notice how Paul starts off that verse speaking of us being “in Christ”. How do you get to be “in Christ”? Well, when we come to Jesus, confess our sin and our need for him as Saviour, trust Him alone to make us right with God, then the Spirit dwells in us, and he connects us into a living relationship with Jesus. It’s what theologians call the ‘mystical union with Christ’.

Renew your Mind…

Now, as we respond to the Spirit within, we will want to live more and more for Jesus. As Paul writes in Romans 12:1 “I urge you, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-which is your spiritual worship.” And for us to live sacrificially, to live for Jesus at home, at work, at the football match, we need to first change our thinking.

16

That’s why Paul says (verse 2) “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.” So being “in Christ”, being united to Jesus by the Spirit, being guided by the Spirit, we need to think differently. And one area where we need to think differently is how we relate with each other.

Because the closer we get to Jesus the closer we get with each other as Christians. The one is in direct proportion to the other.

How do we relate to each other…

We can actually get an idea of how close we are to Jesus by our fellowship with each other. Now in thinking about how we relate with others we need first to have a proper assessment of our selves. That’s why Paul writes in verse 3 “…Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment…” So none of this pride business, I’m better than you, I have it all together, I’m going to succeed even if you don’t, look at my house, look at my car, I am making bucket loads of money. I am fine on my own. That is not on. But on the other hand, there should not be the thinking at the other extreme, either, that I am nothing, I am a worm, I can’t do anything properly, I am useless, everyone can see how hopeless I am etc. Expressions of low self-esteem are not more Christian than expressions of pride. Look carefully again at what Paul says “do not think of yourself more highly that you ought, but with sober judgment.” That is, a balanced view, recognizing both your strengths and your weaknesses.

We need to recognize that each of us is made in God’s image, so valued by God that he gave his own son for us. God has made you in a particular way so that you have a unique set of strengths, via your life experience, the character God gave you, the spiritual gifts you have been given. And you have your areas of weakness, things you are not so good at, things where you need some one else’s help. Now this is not just an unfortunate way things have turned out. You might think that way if you assume we are all meant to be self -sufficient self -contained individuals. Having our particular strengths and weaknesses is by design because it makes us reach for each other, we see how much we need each other. Paul in verse 4 talks about our human bodies, which he says has many parts, like a leg or an eye.

Paul points out that these various parts “don’t all have the same function”; which is as it should be. If the whole body were an eye you wouldn’t be very mobile (roll around). If the whole body were a leg you wouldn’t see! You get Paul’s point. We belong together as a body with various parts. We need each other. Paul goes on to mention the gifts of prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leading and showing mercy. The design of the body of Christ is such that we don’t really experience the fullness of life as God intended by being fiercely independent. We need each other. Christian life is meant to be lived in fellowship with each other.

Now for fellowship to work well, we need not only to discover our spiritual gifts and use them for each other, we also need to have a certain attitude. For example we need to respect each other. Note how Paul writes (verse10) “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” The word ‘honor’ can mean ‘something weighty, valuable, high esteem, dignity, respect.’

17

If we are going to be devoted to each other in real fellowship together we need to hold each other in high regard. That starts by remembering that Jesus gave his life for that fellow believer. So imitate Jesus and honor their worth & dignity as well. Paul would say that fellowship is about sharing our stuff together and supporting each other. Look at verse 13 and 15 “Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality… Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.”

Fun times, important times in our lives are so much better when we have friends to share them with. Imagine your first child has just been born, you have a great job offer, or you have just bought that house, and you have no one to tell. How bad is that! Tough times also should not be suffered alone. No one should be sitting in the hospital waiting room alone, no one should be grieving after hearing tragic news alone. If we have deep fellowship, we are not only there for each other, we feel for each other, in fact, we feel it too.

Have you ever hit your thumb with a hammer? Your whole body is jumping around. You feel it all over. So if one of us faces loss or pain, we all feel it. We all share the grief. Paul writes that for us to have decent fellowship we need to get along together. In verse 16 he writes “Live in harmony with one another.” Verse 18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

We need each other, we need fellowship from each other, for our spiritual survival. We need to support each other, be patient, be honest, to use our spiritual gifts for each other to keep each other strong in the faith. A Zambian proverb says “If you run alone you can run fast. If you run together you can run far!” The Christian life is not a 50 meter sprint. It’s a marathon. We need each other to keep going in life. Paul writes in verse 11 “Never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.” What keeps you going? Our Lord uses his body to keep you going. If you are going on leave for a while, you get your neighbour to put out your rubbish bins, to get your mail, to keep an eye on your place. The neighbour covers for you. We need others to watch out for us. Let me ask you: do you have anyone looking out for your soul? Isn’t your soul more important than your stuff? So who’s helping you out in your spiritual journey? Who’s watching out for you? Who’s asking you the hard questions in life? Who cares enough to be honest with you, to make sure you are still growing in your spiritual walk? Who’s watching out for you when you get discouraged, depressed and feel like giving up? You see how important Christian fellowship is? How unhelpful it is to remain rugged individuals who don’t need any one else? Can you say to each other “I need you”? It’s not easy for us, is it? “I need you and you need me”? Leonardo Da Vinci, with his engineering insight made the observation that “An arch consists of two weaknesses which leaning against each other make a strength.” In the Bible the writer of Ecclesiastes sums up what we are saying in chapter 4:7-12. (cf). Let’s as a church fellowship together; let’s be humble and honest, we need each other. And in meeting each other’s needs, we are actually glorifying God as we display our unity in Christ.

Set your heart and mind on the end results of the FastLoose the bands of wickedness…Undue heavy burdens…Break every yoke

Keep it simple and use good judgement! The most important thing about fasting is to deny our physical needs so we can completely focus on God and our spiritual needs. This is why fasting should always be combined with prayer, confession of sins, and Scripture memorization.

Make sure you have a specific burden or reason to fast. Allow the Holy Spirit to impress upon you when and when not to fast. Do you need direction, guidance, wisdom, or victory over sin habits? Do you long for a greater devotion to Christ? Do you want to gain insight into the Scriptures and humble your soul? Do you need fast deliverance from a difficult problem? Fasting is God’s gift for these specific needs.

Fasting should have a particular beginning and ending period. In Bible times, many fasts were from sundown to sundown (6pm to 6pm). Some fasts were one to three days of drinking water and setting asides all foods. However long our fast may be, we should go about our normal routines and dwell upon Christ throughout the day.

Have a balance! Be careful of your health. Start out slow and gradually build upon stronger times of fasting. Some Christians fast during lunch or supper times- others fast for several days and only

19

partake of certain liquids. Paul’s admonition in I Corinthians 14:26,40 is not just for the church, but for us individually as well:

“Let all things be done unto edifying…Let all things be done decently and in order.”
