Scholar-Athlete, Coach and Community Recognition Banquet
2017 Scholar-Athlete, Coach and Community Recognition
Welcome to our 6th AnnualScholar-Athlete, Coach and Community
Recognition Banquet
Dr. Susan Enfield, Superintendent
Terri McMahan, Director of Athletics
Welcome to the sixth Annual Highline Public Schools Scholar-Athlete, Coach and Community Recognition Banquet. We are extremely proud of our student athletes on and off the field. We believe athletics provides a place for students to gain valuable leadership and teamwork skills that will help them as they continue their education and pursue their dreams. Much of the success our student athletes achieve is in large part due to the support and mentorship from coaches and community members. The tireless work and dedication of these individuals creates a lasting effect on the young people they serve. I want to personally thank everyone who has made tonight possible and offer my congratulations to every individual we are honoring tonight.
I hope you enjoy our sixth annual event and appreciate, as I do, the partnerships with local business owners, community members, alumni and staff to honor and support our outstanding student-athletes, coaches, community contributors and those receiving special recognition. The opportunity to partner with others and provide scholarship dollars for our greatest community resource is a tremendous experience for all involved. Assistance with post-secondary academic goals and the example of “giving back” to one’s community provides a powerful lesson. Thank you for taking part in this lesson. I look forward to great accomplishments from those honored tonight.
Anne BaunachExecutive Director Highline Schools Foundation
The Highline Schools Foundation is really excited to be a partner in the Sixth Annual Scholar-Athlete, Coach, and Community Recognition Banquet. The Foundation was started 19 years ago by the community to help raise critical funds for students, teachers and staff in Highline Public Schools when state funding is not adequate. Athletics is one of the priority areas for the Foundation as we believe that every student, regardless of their ability to afford participation fees, should be able to play their desired support for their school. We help the district by raising the support that these athletes need to cover those fees. We also believe in the power of education to transform lives and so are excited to be part of the program to help these scholar-athletes as they look beyond high school to post-secondary educa-tion. We wish the very best to all the scholar-athletes being recognized this evening.

In Memory of Doris BurdinEvergreen Teacher & Coach
1942-2014
Doris spent her entire career of 48 years at Evergreen, where she had an enormous impact on all those she interacted with, from students to athletes to fellow teachers and community members. Not only did Doris teach academics, but she truly believed in teaching “life lessons.” From the classroom to the court, no matter who you were, you were treated with the same care, respect and expectations as everyone else, and you were always greeted with a smile and a “Good morning!”
Doris passed away October 28, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. Friends and family have created a scholarship in her name to be presented to a female scholar-athete from Evergreen.
