-The heart is a pump. The heart's only job is

to pump blood, which contains oxygen andother nutrients, to all of

the organs and tissue in the body.

-The heart is made up of four different blood-filled areas, and each of these chamber is on

the top and one chamber is on the bottom.

    Left Atrium

The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungsthrough the pulmonary vein.

Right AtriumThe right atrium receives de-oxygenated blood from the bodythrough the superior vena cava (head and upper body) andinferior vena cava (legs and lower torso).

Right VentricleThe right ventricle receives de-oxygenated blood as the rightatrium contracts.

Left VentricleThe left ventricle receives oxygenated blood as the left atriumcontracts.

    THE BLOOD CIRCUIT

    Pulmonary circulation

    - Is the portion of the cardiovascular system whichcarries oxygen-depleted blood away from the

heart, to the lungs and returns oxygenatedblood back to the heart.

    Systemic circulation

    - Is the portion of the cardiovascular system whichcarries oxygenated blood away from the heart,to the body, and returns deoxygenated bloodback to the heart.

    Systolic pressure

    - Is the pressure of the blood when the ventriclescontract while;

Diastolic pressure- Is measured when the heart relaxes.

Normal Systolic pressure for male is 120mm Hg

while 110mm Hg for females.Normal Diastolic pressure for male is 80mmHgwhile females should have 70mmHg.
