Personal Traits: My personal traits are, I am a very independent person, I work well

alone and in group setting. I am a very precise person, I like to complete things to detail or a

particular way. I’m a cultured person, ever since I was little my family empowered

me with it. I haven’t lost it since then. My Strengths My strengths are hard to classify and identify on myself, but I put

some good thought into it, and these are probably my strongest ones. I am a quick learner, I try to remember something as soon as I get

taught it, so I have a good grasp on it. I find this most evident at school also, and home.

I pay attention to detail and I am very precise, and like to finish things to completion. I find this most evident when I have a job (usually in the summer).

I am a very hard worker, I don’t like to slack. I find this strength most evident at school. I am usually ahead of everyone else in school, but there were a few times where I was just flooded with schoolwork but I managed to finish all of it by the deadline. That’s probably the closest I get to slacking and falling behind.Who am I?

My passion in life right now is to be happy, not that I’m not now, but it’s just school gets me so stressed sometimes that is all I see of me, is being stressed a lot of the time. Also, to be successful in life, that passion drives me to get up in the morning and head out to school and be determined to graduate, because being unsuccessful is strangely, one of my fears. I just cannot think about, it actually really terrifies me like what's my source of income? Will I be financially stable? What would happen if I weren't? Anyways, my main passion in life is to just be successful, maybe as I get older I will find another passion to go along with it, but for now it’s just to be successful.

My Passion in Life

Page 4: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

I have quite a bit of interest and some hobbies. One of my favourite hobbies is to play sports, mostly basketball, I have played on the girls school basketball team, and outside of school on a junior all native team in the community. I also, recently started playing volleyball last year, I play on the girls school team.

Interests on the other hand, I have tons. I love to read, but most of all I love doing art. At home I have every art supply to keep me happy, from pastels to water colour paints. Art is just something that makes me forget about certain things and it lets me be creative, I'm very passionate about it.

My Hobbies/Interests

After graduation I would like to go to college/ post-secondary school and join a culinary arts program at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC and if not, a Visual Arts program at VIU in Nanaimo, BC.

Career

Page 6: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

Plan A: My first option for post-secondary school, I am hoping to go for

Professional Cooks Level 3 (which includes the first two levels in the program), at the Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. I've been to the university and it’s really nice, I love it. The Culinary Arts Certificate program includes three semesters (44 weeks, for Professional Cook Level 1&2). The admission fee is $27.03.The admission requirements for Culinary Arts Degree are BC grade 10 (or equivalent) is a minimum and Grade 12 is preferred. Successful completion of the FoodSafe certificate. The costs are quite expensive but for Professional Cook Level 1 is $1320.00 plus additional costs of texts, tools, and clothing. For Level 2 it costs $1700.00.

When the program ends I will have a Culinary Arts degree. I have quite a few cooking/ baking skills, I do a lot of it at home it’s

one of my favorite things to do. I had a few kitchen/restaurant summer jobs, I really enjoyed them.

Where am I going?

Page 7: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

For my first year I am hoping to get a scholarship with NTC (Nuu-Chah-Nulth Tribal Council) and I would like to go to a post-secondary, in Nanaimo- VIU for my Visual Arts Degree, which is a two year program.

With this program I think I would try for a scholarships & awards because the expenses are a bit costly compared to Plan A’s costs, mainly because of the books and all the art supplies.

The requirements to get in are a high school graduation with English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (with a C grade average or equivalent), a university degree. Be a transfer student from a college or university with at least 24 university transfer credits. Be a mature student status (be at least 21 years old in your first semester). An interview with the faculty selection committee and a 100 to 300 word written statement that outlines reasons and goals for wishing to enter the program, along with your portfolio.

When this program is finished I will have a Visual Arts Diploma. I think that I’m pretty good at art, I’ve been doing it since I was a little

girl. I do it a lot at home also, I even help teach my two younger siblings how to paint. I do a lot of art at home, and at school too. Anything from a sketch to painting/pastels to book art.

Plan B

Page 8: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

I have already have half of my volunteer hours done, within two days I accomplished 15 hours at the least of volunteer work by helping the school with a boys school basketball tournament (the Islands tournament) with some clean up and doing the scoreboard and score sheet. I do plan on doing more volunteer hours soon, I just don’t know what yet.

Accomplishments: I have accomplished many things in my short time of a life, last

year I got my level 1 Foodsafe certificate and throughout the last couple years I increased my GPA to a B average and I have earned multiple All-stars in basketball from 2010-2015. The one I’m probably most proud about it getting my learners license this month (June 1st/ 2015) and I hope to get my N before next year by doing a driving course, so I am able to get it quicker than a year.

What I Have Done & Learned

Page 9: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

I obtain 150 minutes, at least, of physical activity per week by my P.E class and a couple times a week I got for a run down the beach (3+ kilometers). I also, almost everyday, go down to the court for at least 2 hours and play basketball.

How I plan to stay fit after I graduate is, I will either get a gym pass and go to the gym to do workouts, or I will purchase my own gym equipment and workout at home. During that I will also, still be running on the beaches and still continuing with my sports.

How Am I going to get there

Page 10: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

I do, like a lot of other people eat a little bit unhealthy, but not everything. I love eating organic food, especially organic fruit. That is my favourite, other than salad. I mostly eat fruit and vegetables, but I'm not a big fan of meat. Last year I was vegetarian for about 3 months, but my parents suggested I started eating meat because it was too “unhealthy” to not eat meat.

I think I should include more milk and vegetables in my diet in future reference. I usually drink lots of fruit infused water almost everyday, or just plain ice water.

Food & Drink

Page 11: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

I usually handle stress very well, but when it gets near the end of the school year, I don’t handle it very well because I start overthinking about the work I have to do, and studying for finals and worrying about if I’m going to fail or not.

My “support group” for managing stress is mostly my friends and somewhat my family, mainly my older brother. They all talk to me and tell me I will do good and that they are there for me.

When I am super stressed I usually don’t sleep much, due to usually being up late doing work at home. I don’t eat much I drink more liquids than eat food, usually lots of coffee. Which I know isn't good for me but I find coffee comforting, for some odd reason. But, I always remember to feed myself and get enough sleep to keep me focused for the next day, I try drink lots of water and eat healthy.

Stress/Tension

Page 12: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

To maintain a healthy relationship requires quite a bit of work on both ends.

Communication is key. Take time to check in with one another on a daily basis.

Keeping things interesting is a big part too, plan a picnic with your significant other, or take an art or dance class together. Be spontaneous.

Honour each other, you have the chance to make the relationship even more meaningful and sweet everyday. Feeling cherished and respected by someone you greatly care about is literally one of the greatest things ever. It makes life much nicer, so take them out to dinner or make them breakfast in bed.

Healthy Relationships

Page 13: 6.3 grad transitions presentation

My budget plan for my first year out of high school is to find a good paying job and work for about a year or two, to save up as much money as I can by budgeting how much I spend on certain things like food and entertainment, for my post-secondary education and living expenses.

Then while in post-secondary education I will find a part time job for weekends for living expenses and other necessities.

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and stuggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”

-Martin Luther King, Jr. “You have to rely on your preparation. You got to

really be passionate and try prepare more than anyone else, and put yourself in a position to succeed, and when the moment comes you got to enjoy, relax, breathe and rely on your preparation so that you can perform and not be anxious or filled with doubt.”
