What are the two tones we know?
How are they played?
Let’s practice them one at a time on a question/answer game
What question should we ask?
Stepping Pattern
When you are on the frame drum, you will stand and step to the music
Our pattern goes like this:
RIGHT – TOGETHER – LEFT - TOGETHER
Question and Answer
A common theme in African traditional music is question and answer
We have done this a lot with “What’s your name?”
We are going to combine open and closed tones with this question and answer
I’ll play BASS-OPEN-OPEN in two beats
One student will play a two-beat answer combining BASS and OPEN tones
Let’s practice a few times, then go through our circle
If you’re playing a tubano, you are sitting
Remember: if you’re playing a frame drum, you are standing and stepping!
Selecting Instruments
Your choices (andmaximum amounton it) are:
Cowbell (1)
Frame Drum (5)
