Durante la splendida e soleggiata mattina del 26 febbraio, le delegazioni straniere hanno avuto la possibilità di fare una passeggiata tra i punti nevralgici della città dell’Aquila, accompagnati dallo staff studentesco e dai membri della Protezione Civile. Hanno potuto osservare e farsi un’idea della nostra storia e dei nostri monumenti, iniziando dalla Fontana Luminosa fino a ritornare al forte Spagnolo, passando per le vie del corso, piazza Duomo, la villa comunale, via XX settembre, piazza Regina Margherita e San Bernardino. I ragazzi, insieme ai loro accompagnatori, hanno espresso stupore nel vedere alcuni cantieri aperti nel bel mezzo del centro storico della città. Il momento più emozionante è stato sicuramente quando le delegazioni hanno potuto osservare i danni che il terremoto del 6 aprile 2009 ha inferto alla Casa dello Studente. Lì, tra le bandiere della ISF che sventolavano tra le mani dei ragazzi, è stato piantato un alberello d’ulivo in segno di pace e fratellanza tra tutti i popoli. Oltre ad essere di buon auspicio per la rinascita della città, è stato anche il simbolo di una città che prova a rimettersi faticosamente in piedi, un passo alla volta. Un’altra bellissima immagine, emblema di questi campionati, è stata quella che ci hanno regalato Pierre e Samy, due ragazzi francesi: l’abbraccio che si sono scambiati davanti alle macerie della Casa dello Studente è stato spontaneo e commovente.

During the wonderful sunny morning of Friday 26th February, the foreign delegations have been able to take a walk among the hotspots of L’Aquila, accompained by the student staff, the Red Cross and the White Cross. They could see and get an idea of our history and our monuments, starting from Fontana Luminosa and ending up to the Spanish Castle, going through the main streets, Piazza Duomo, The Villa, via XX settembre, Piazza Regina Margherita e San Bernardino. Students, with their guides, expressed astonishment seeing some open construction sites right in the middle of

the historical city centre. The most touching moment was surely when delegations could observe damages caused by the earthquake of 6th April 2009 to the Students’ House. Among ISF flags waving from the students’ hands, an olive tree has been planted as a sign of peace and friendship. In addition to this, like a wish of rebirth for the city, it has been also the symbol of a town that tries to painfully rise again,

step by step. Another beautiful picture, real emblem of these competitions, has been the hug between Pierre and Samy, two French boys, which they exchanged in front of the ruins of Students’ House: genuine and emotional.

“Grazie all’ISF per averci dato questa grande opportunità”, queste le parole pronunciate da Antonello Passacantando, coordinatore del comitato organizzaore. Il suo intervento, arriva dopo la cerimonia di premiazione tenutasi a Rocca di Mezzo che sancisce il termine dei Mondiali Studenteschi di Sci. Il discorso di Laurent Petrynka, presidente dell’ISF, ha preceduto lo spegnimento del tripode. Infine, la chiusura simbolica del campionato è stata data dall’ammaina bandiera dell’ISF.

“Thank you ISF for this great opportunity” those were the words pronounced from Antonello Passacantando, head of the organizing committee. His words came after the award ceremony in Rocca di Mezzo that ended the World School Championship Ski. Also the speech by Laurent Petrynka, president of the ISF organization, was a message of farewell. Finally, the symbolic closure of the championship was given by the extinguishing of the tripod, lighted during the opening rite.

EN PLEIN FOR AUSTRIAL’AUSTRIA SI CLASSIFICA PRIMA IN TUTTE LE CATEGORIE DELL’ALPINO

L’Austria, con gli atleti dello Schigymnasium fa l’en plein nello sci alpino piazzandosi al primo posto nelle Categorie C2 e C1 ragazzi e ragazze. Il miglior piazzamento per l’Italia è invece il secondo posto del Bachman nella classifica della categorie ragazze C2. Spunta al sesto posto anche il Liceo Scientifico Andrea Bafile dell’Aquila nella categoria C1 ragazzi. Al secondo e terzo posto nella categoria C1 ragazze si classifica la Francia con le Collège Le Bonrieu, Bozel. Segue la Germania con il Gymnasium Tegernsee. Nella categoria C1 ragazzi il secondo posto tocca alla Germania con la scuola Werdenfels-gymnsium Gramidch-Prtenkirchen, segue la Francia con il Collége Saint Exuperty. Nella C2 ragazzi ancora un secondo posto per la Francia con il liceo Jean Moulin di Albertville. Terzo posto per la il Gertrud-von-le-Fort Gymnasium di Oberstdorf (Germania). Al quarto posto nella stessa categoria per l’Italia il Bachman di Tarvisio. Russia, Germania e Francia: queste sono le tre nazioni che hanno rubato i riflettori nella seconda giornata di gare di fondo. Rincorse, tifo e colpi di scena hanno caratterizzato l’emozionante staffetta. Nonostante fosse rilevante la difficoltà fisica causata dall’altitudine, gli atleti hanno lottato fino all’ultimo millimetro per conquistare il podio. “Dedico questa vittoria alla mia squadra”: questa è l’affermazione ricorrente che lega i vincitori tra loro. Infatti, nelle staffette, lo spirito di squadra è fondamentale per raggiungere un buon risultato, così come ci dicono i vincitori. “Sciare da soli è più facile perché in squadra devi lottare per i tuoi compagni e non vuoi deluderli. Sei sotto pressione”, dichiara Paul Gräf della squadra tedesca. Il team francese concorda, e allo stesso modo il russo Anton Ritter, che aggiunge: “Una squadra è sempre più forte del singolo”. In tanti provengono dalla stessa scuola, e forse questo è stato un punto di forza per raggiungere la vittoria. Questa è stata la prima competizione internazionale per la maggior parte di loro: è un onore per l’Italia essere teatro del loro debutto.Russia e Austria si sono date battaglia fino all’ultimo attimo, e la Russia ha vinto grazie a un colpo di reni finale sulla linea di traguardo: “Quando eravamo vicini al termine del percorso, ho realizzato che sarei stato primo, che avrei vinto. Ho fatto del mio meglio”, commenta Anton. Tutti i concorrenti hanno trovato la gara piuttosto dura a causa del clima rigido e dell’altitudine al di fuori della norma. Quindi, respirare bene non è stato difficile solo per gli atleti, ma anche per il pubblico rapito: uno spettacolo davvero mozzafiato.

Although the physical strain caused by the altitude was challenging, the athletes fought until the last millimeter to reach the podium. “I dedicate this victory to my team”: this is the recurring theme that ties each winner together. In fact, in relays the team spirit is fundamental for a positive result, as the winners told us. “It is easier to ski alone because in a team you have to fight for your boys too, and you don’t want to disappoint them. You are under pressure” said Paul Gräf of the German team. The French team agreed, as well as the Russian Anton Ritter, that added: “A team is always stronger than any “one””. A lot of them come from the same school, and maybe this was a strong point for winning. For most of them, this was their first international competition, and it was an honour for Italy to assist them in their debut. Russia and Austria fought till the last moment, and Russia won with a jump forward: “When we were near the finish line, it was in my mind that I would be the first, that I would have won. I’ve done my best” said Anton. Everyone found the race pretty hard because of the many complications of the slope: “The track has been difficult: it was hard to breathe because of the harsh weather and the out of the norm altitude “. It was not only hard for the athletes to breathe, but also for the amazed audience: a truly breathtaking show.

MULTILANGUAGE AND MULTITASKINGL’ESPERIENZA INDIMENTICABILE DEI RAGAZZI DELLO STUDENT STAFF

Sia la Student Press che lo Student Staff hanno ricoperto un ruolo centrale nell’organizzazione degli ISF WSC, ma hanno avuto esperienze molto diverse. Mentre i primi hanno principalmente fatto interviste e scritto articoli, i secondi hanno lavorato come interpreti per le nazioni partecipanti. Sono 36 i ragazzi dello student staff, hanno dovuto districarsi utilizzando tutte le lingue che conoscevano, ma hanno anche dovuto improvvisare con qualche capo delegazione. “Ad esempio - sottolinea la docente responsabile dello student staff Anna Maria Nanni - gli slovacchi non conoscevano bene l’inglese, ma questi ragazzi se la sono cavata”. Entusiasti gli studenti. “Questa esperienza mi ha fatto crescere molto e mi ha insegnato ad apprezzare a prendermi le mie responsabilità” ha detto Gaia Di Federico, di fatto comunicando il pensiero di molti dei suoi colleghi. Francesca Macchia ha rimarcato che gli ISF WSC hanno avvicinato persone provenienti da tanti paesi, andando a superare le differenze tra le varie culture. Ne abbiamo avuto riscontro durante la “Giornata Della Cultura” , mentre tutti ballavano allegramente. Ludovica Bascarin ha apprezzato il lato sociale dell’esperienza: “Ci siamo divertiti molto sia con gli altri dello staff che con gli atleti: ho stretto così tante nuove amicizie!”.

Both the Student Press and the Student Staff had an important role in the organization of the ISF WSC, but they had very different experiences. While the former mostly interviewed athletes and wrote articles, the latter worked as interpreters for the participating nations. We already talked about the Student Press and their role in this event, now we get the chance to highlight some of the thoughts and impressions of the Student Staff composed of 36 people coordinated by professor Anna Maria Nanni. “I was really impressed”, Nanni said. “Not only were they able to deal with people coming from English, Spanish, and French speaking countries, but also to communicate with head of delegations coming from Turkey or Slovakia, whose English was definitely poor”. This experience made me grow up” Gaia Di Federico said, and many others had a similar feeling about the topic.

Francesca Macchia was so glad of the fact that the ISF WSC brought together people from so many different nations, overcoming

the differences between their cultures. We had an idea of that during the “Culture Day”, when everyone was happily dancing. Ludovica Bascarin told us “We had great fun with both the others from the staff and the

athletes: I made so many new friends!”

BAGPIPES CALLINGAGLI SCOZZESI IL PREMIO FAIRPLAY

Grazie all’entusiasmo, allo spirito di squadra e alla coinvolgente partecipazione in tutte le attività, gli scozzesi sono riusciti a vincere il premio “Kinder joy of moving”. Si tratta di un premio che viene assegnato alla nazionale che, oltre ad aver dato il proprio meglio nelle gare, ha rappresentato entrambi i volti dello sport: competizione e divertimento. Il riconoscimento è frutto di una piccola elezione che vede coinvolti il presidente e il segretario dell’ISF, i capi di ogni delegazione, i tecnici dello sci alpino e nordico. Gli scozzesi, oltre al loro fairplay, hanno dimostrato di sapersi relazionare con tutti al punto di imparare qualche parola nel dialetto locale, portando gioia con balli tradizionali e le cornamuse. Nonostante il notevole coinvolgimento delle altre nazioni, la Scozia ha vinto senza indugio per il proprio spirito di iniziativa. Ad ogni modo, un altro contest, l’ “ISF Ski Ambassador” si è concluso. Tra tutte le foto scattate, in cui gli atleti dovevano rappresentare la parola SKI con il loro corpo, la vincitrice è quella con Eris Ullagen (Turchia), Francesca Lee (Inghilterra) e Paul Vonier (Austria). La loro foto rappresenta i valori dell’amicizia e del multiculturalismo.

Because of its enthusiasm, teamwork, joy and emotional involvement showed during all the event Scotland managed to win the “Kinder joy of moving”. For those who might know nothing about the “Kinder joy of moving”, it is a price given by the ISF president and secretary, each delegation’s chief , alpine ski judges and the staff to the delegation that not only did his best during the competitions, but

represented both sides of sport: competition and enjoyment. Indeed, during the opening ceremony and every activity organized by the staff, they brought joy with their traditional dances and their bagpipes. Despite the great involvement of the other nations, Scotland won without any problems because of its enterprising spirit.By the way, another contest, “ISF Ski Ambassador” ended and amongst all the pictures, where athletes had to mime the word SKI using their bodies, the winners were Eris Ullagen (Turkey), Francesca Lee (England) and Paul Vonier (Austria). Their picture showed the values of multiculturalism and friendship.
