Psalm 94.6- COMMUNION ANTIPHON Let them thank the Lord for his mercy, his wonders for the children of men, for he satisfies the thirsty soul, and the hungry he fills with good things Psalm 106.8-9 1st Reading: Isaiah 58.7-10: Care for our fellow men and women is a mark of true faith. It is like a light shining in the darkness and reflects the glory of God. Response to the Psalm: The good will be a light, a light in the darkness. 2nd Reading: I Corinthians 2.1-5: All Pauls preaching, his life and ministry, depend- ed utterly on Gods power and not on some human thinking. The crucified and risen Christ was what impelled him to proclaim Gods gracious guarantee of salvation. Alleluia! Alleluia! I am the light of the world, says the Lord, anyone who follows me will have the light of life. Alleluia! Matthew 5.1-12: J esus offer s two parables, of the light and of the salt, with which he de- scribes the mission of the com- munity. The community has to be salt of the earth and light of the world. Salt does not exist for itself, but to give flavour to food. Light does not exist in itself, but to illu- minate the road. May the Lord embrace him in his arms of mercy and comfort and console his family at this time of their loss. Our next meeting of preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place this Wednesday 8th February from 7-8pm in the Church Oratory. Parents and adult family members are invited to attend. The purpose of the meet- ings is to help you accompany your children more fully in their learning about the sacrament and to give you the opportunity to deepen your own faith. Catholic Education week takes place this year from 12th-18th February during which we celebrate the importance of educating children and young people in faith. If you would like further information on becoming a teacher in our Catholic schools, please contact the Catholic Education Service at: [email protected] There will be a 2nd collection next weekend to support the work of the Scottish Catholic Education Service. Community Building Agency - Lenten Small Faith Sharing Groups A preparation evening for Lent will be in the Xavier Centre, Carfin on Thursday the 23rd February at 7.30pm. Father Dominic Quinn will lead the evening. He will be reflecting on Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter, “Misericordia et Misera”. In the letter Pope Francis considers what happens now that the Jubilee Year of Mercy is over. We hope you will encourage as many people as possible to come along as these evenings are not exclusively for small group participants.
