It is flanked on the lef by the entrance to a~ inland tidal b&ein, and on the right by an inland tidal buein and rocky peninsula. The tidal basins are shallow to the extent th~t they completely dry out at ueriode of low tide. The beach approaches lead directly into the Yellow Sea and are exposeo. to high winds and ground swells from the North, West and Southwest.

    OFFSHORE:

    The sea anoroaches uu to the 30 1 deuth are wide £·nd cle~oo.r except for the isiand of 11/i:..Do lying 11 miles off the l!!ft flenk of beach "Baker" 2 miles to the North. The 30' depth averages 9 miles from the HWM. The bottom composition is fine sand and mud. b NE current of 2 knots is indicated on reference charts during per-iods of hi~h tide, W!d a SW cur-rent of 2 knots during ebb tide,

    NEJ!RSHOBE:

    From the NLLW line to the 30 1 depth the underwater gradient is level but extremely shallow. On the left fle.nk the gradient averages 1:225, in the center 1:175, and on the right 1:165. The one, two ttnd three :rc~thom curves a.vert~gEHl 950, 1200, and 1500 yards respectively from the HW}J. Bottom composition is fine sand and mu~ with a f1rm surf~ce. There ~re no rocks or obstacles in the ne£.rshore area. A slight southerly current of . 5 knots was obser·•ec during the survey at et£-.ll:€8 of ebb tide. The W£Lter in the nearshor-ie extremely murky, with-visibility lese than 1 foot. WE.ter tempe. r&ture was 50 degrees F.
