PREFACE
The Editors are grateful to all authors for their effort in writing the papers in time and acknowledge the outstanding work of all people involved with the organization of 5th Brazilian Conference of Composite Materials – BCCM 5, mainly the students and technicians, who helped in direct or indirect way the publication of the present Proceedings. The Editors also would like to thank Professor Edson Cezar Wendland (Dean of Sao Carlos School of Engineering of USP) for the support provides to have an edition of the Brazilian Conference on Composite Materials (BCCM) in Sao Carlos,
which is the most important conference on composite materials in Brazil.
The BCCM 5 was the first edition in virtual format. There were more than 160 oral presentations distributed in five virtual rooms, and ten plenary lectures occurred in a virtual auditorium. Prof. Reinaldo Rodríguez Ramos (University of Havana – Cuba) talked about “Multiscale modeling applied to the study of heterogeneous structures”. Prof. Marino Quaresimin (University of Padova – Italy) discussed about “An integrated approach to design and monitor composite structures under in-service fatigue loadings”. Prof. Jandro L. Abot (The Catholic University of America – USA) talked about “Self-sensing composite materials using carbon nanotube yarns: A new paradigm in integrated structural health monitoring”. Prof. Dirk Vandepitte (KU Leuven – Belgium) explained about “Identification of uncertainty and quantification of variability in long fibre reinforced composite materials”. Prof. Amir Asadi (Texas A&M University – USA) discussed about “Scaling up the manufacturing of hierarchical nano/micro reinforced composite materials”. Prof. Sofia Teixeira de Freitas (Delft University of Technology – The Netherlands) talked about “On the influence of the laminate properties on the failure of adhesively bonded composite structures”. Prof. Mauricio V. Donadon (Technological Institute of Aeronautics – Brazil) commented about “A CLT based constitutive model to predict distortions and residual stresses in semi-crystalline thermoplastic composites”. Prof. José D. D. Melo (Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – Brazil) explained about “Double-Double laminates: two sets of continuous ply angle variables to replace legacy quad laminates”. Prof. Edson Cocchieri Botelho and coworkers (Sao Paulo State University – Brazil) presented about “Studies of multifunctional composites based on buckypapers”. Finally, Prof. Ricardo de Medeiros (Santa Catarina State University – Brazil) explained about “Structural Health Monitoring
techniques applied to analyze composite structures”.
The BCCM 5 had around 250 delegates from 21 different countries (Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, India, Italy, France, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, UK, Germany, USA, Ireland, Austria, Algeria, San Marino, Netherlands, Sweden and Morocco), including Professors and Post-Doctorate researchers, as well as PhD, Master and undergraduate students. This shows the high level of the event in terms of the presentations and the works published in the present Proceedings, which covers different topics such as “Material, Manufacturing and Material Processing”, and “Material Testing, Characterization and Material Properties”, as well as “Numerical and
Experimental Structure Analysis and Applications”.
