To mark the European Day of Languages on 26 September, transpoesie returns to Brussels in 2014 with an exciting array of poems from across Europe, which will be displayed around the city in their original languages, with French and Dutch translations.Organised by eunic Brussels, transpoesie is now in its fourth year. In this year’s edition, poems will be on display from 23 September to 23 October in a variety of public spaces, includ-ing at transport stops, in the metro and on buses and trams. In addition to the official launch on 25 September, three dedicated poetry events will feature on this year’s programme.Inspired by the successful and long-standing Poems on the Underground in London and its counterpart Wiersze w Metrze in Warsaw, Poland, transpoesie in Brussels is a unique public celebration of European cultural diversity and artistic

expression, with “movement” as this year’s theme. Three mil-lion public transport commuters a week in Brussels and the public at large in this multicultural European capital can take a pause in their daily comings and goings to discover and re-flect on poems from 30 different countries in almost as many languages.

E UN I Ceunic Brussels is the framework through which eu national cultural institutions with a permanent presence in Belgium, together with their networks throughout Europe co-operate in the development and execution of uniquely multilateral cultural projects and initiatives. eunic Brussels’ activities complement the national role and the cultural programmes of its member institutes.

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, EUNIC Brussels brings European poetry in its original languages into the Brussels public space. Over the past 4 years, 100 European poets have presented their poems in the framework of the project. The public of Brussels gets a chance to discover the great variety of languages and literary talent in Europe, enriching their daily routines with a unique and creative experience. This year’s edition focuses on 4 literary events:

EUNIC, the network of the European National Institutes for Culture, was formed in 2006 and is now a recognised leader in culture cooperation governed by its 34 members from 28 countries and 95 clusters based in different locations around the globe. It works in the arts, language, youth, education, science, intercultural dialogue and development sectors. The EUNIC network is based on open cooperation and works in a bottom up NGO-style with a compact, independent and flexible administration.EUNIC Brussels is the Belgian cluster.
