Workshop SynopsisThe information presented will address current NDT principles including

beginning assessment/evaluation and problem-solving handling techniques.Participants will be assisted to improve their observational skills and directhandling skills while problem solving using NDT techniques to improve functionfor their pediatric clients. In addition to didactic information, direct handlingwith lab partners using problem-solving will enhance learning. Discussion will beincluded addressing current trends in pediatrics.

Learning Objectives:Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:1. Achieve a basic understanding of the components of movement in typical

development 0-12 months.

2. Achieve a basic understanding of thecomponents of atypical movementexperienced by children with neuromotorchallenges.

3. Achieve a basic understanding of thecomponents of normal postural reactionsnecessary for motor function.

4. Achieve a preliminary understanding ofneuro developmental therapy concepts andprinciples.

5. Achieve a basic understanding of the application of clinical observation basedon NDT and the direct handling skills with problem solving using NDTtechniques to improve function for children with disability.

Ms. Kim Barthel, OTRKim Barthel is a world-renowned occupational therapist, teacher and author

– actively supporting multi-disciplinary function and healing in many culturesaround the globe. A pioneer in reinforcing the critical importance of relationship,she is known for blending cutting-edge developments in neuroscience with theart of compassionate inquiry. With 35+ years as an OT, Kim is an advanced NDTinstructor with vast experience in supporting complex behaviour, movement,mental health, autism, trauma-informed practice, sensory processing andattachment. As a co-founder of the SYNCroSI method of holistic childdevelopment services, Kim is instrumental in leading the best practices at thefirst SYNCroSI Centre for Children in Shenzhen, China. Based in Canada, Kim is onthe road over 300 days a year, both teaching and learning. Her mission is tosupport the conscious evolution of the human spirit.

Format: The didactic lecture, case demonstrations and hands-on labs will be

presented throughout this course. It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothing for the

treatment labs. Max. 30 participants

Targeted Participants:Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Pathologistsworking with children with motor dysfunction with completed the 3 Day NDTTheory Module (Basic Level).The 3 Day NDT Theory Module (Basic Level) Course will be held on July 1st–3rd,2019.
