White Bay, British Virgin Islands

I was atWhite Bay, BVI with my family. A few minutes ago we had just moored and

we were getting ready to go to Little Harbor which was the bay right next to us when

we saw a catamaran coming into the harbor. There are only two ways into White Bay.

There was a reef with two holes in it for boats to pass through. But the people on thecatamaran didnt know that.

While we were on our way to Little Harbor we saw the catamaran hitting the reef. I

could just picture the captain on the boat yelling put it in reverse. We saw the boat

backing up and the bill those people were going to get when they took the boat back

to the charter. When we got back from Little Harbor we didnt see the boat moored

anywhere.

Transposition of the great vessels open heart surgery

I was born with a condition called Transpositionof the great vessels. Babies that have this conditionare called blue babies. It is when there is low bloodflow in the body turning the skin blue. This is a form of cyanosis. In a normal heart blood travels into the right

side of the heart through the pulmonary artery andinto the lungs. Then the blood travels back into theheart and out the aorta and into the rest of the body.

In a blue baby heart the blood travels into theright side of the heart through the pulmonary arteryand into the lungs. Then the blood goes into the hearttakes a bypass and goes back to the lungs and then

when the blood goes out the aorta and into the bodythere isnt enough oxygen to keep your skin normal. That is what makes it turn blue. The doctors switchedthe great vessels and my skin turned to normal colorfor the first time in my life. That is when I realized thatI want to be a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon( a babyheart surgeon).

Riding a sled with Crawford

Crawford and I were sledding at a hillnear our house. Crawford and I did bettersledding backwards than we did forwards. There was a jump at the end that we didntknow about. We got on the sled thinkingthat it would be fun going down. But we

were wrong. We went into the path of the jump and

got up to full speed. Then we went airborne. We sat there stunned flying through the airat 15mph. It felt like we just sat there in theair until we landed. Both of us were at least

10 ft away from the sled.W

e rolled down tothe bottom of the hill and then we stopped. We looked at the top of the hill andeveryone was laughing. Then later we didthe same thing but this time we werebraced. A couple of years earlier we weregoing down the hill on our street on a sledwhen Crawford drove us straight into a bush.

Another BVI sailing story

My family and I were putting up the sailsleaving Norman Island. It was a nice day and wewere heading to Cooper Island a few miles away. When you are sailing you want to put the boat intothe wind to put up the sails to reduce all of the

strength of the wind against the sail. We were justpassing The Indians reef which we had snorkeledearlier. We saw a boat in the distance that was tryingto raise its sails.

We looked at the direction of the wind and wesaw that these people were doing the exact thing

that you werent supposed to do. They were raisingthe sails while the wind was going against the sail. That can rip your sail or tear it or get it stuck. Eitherway those people were going to have a bad day.

The U.S. Coast Guard

I was in Charleston, South Carolina with the BoyScouts we were at Patriots Point sleeping on the USSYorktown. They have a remake of the USS Yorktown, Asubmarine, a destroyer, and a Coast Guard Cutter.Everyone in the group of five boys got to lead us onthe boat trail of arrows. There was a Boy Scout namedAllen Geiger who was leading us on the Coast GuardCutter. And he took us off of the path.

We all told him that we should stay on the pathbecause the ship looked the same no matter whereyou looked. But he said come on so we went withhim. We kept walking down the halls and looking for

arrows but we didnt see any. Finally we saw a doorgoing outside. We went out. Then we heard one of thedad's calling us.When we got outside all we saw waswater so we had to cross the 20 mm Gatling Gun andcross a bunch of other things that were on deck.

Exercising in Jones Gap State ParkI was backpacking in Jones Gap State Park

with the Boy Scouts. We were just crossing ariver when it started hailing. The hail was about½ inch thick and it was just nailing us in thehead. Then it started raining while it was stillhailing. I had pools of water in my glasses.

The rivers were higher than they usuallywere because of all the rain and the rocks thatyou used to step over them were underwater. The entire trail was a stream. Then we came ona hill that was going 45 degrees down. It was ariver beside a river. Then we finally got to thecampsite and set up camp. Then it startedraining again. But this time we were fine

because we had tents. It was really hard to finddry wood for the fire. That was the hardestbackpacking trip I have ever been on.

Reflection

Doing this project reminded me of all of the

great times I have had in my life. It also taught

me more about myself. I also learned that

many things have happened to me and I only

remember a few of them. Doing this project

makes me feel better about doing things

because something funny has usuallyhappened to me. That I what I learned doing

this project
