I started to study for my MA at the University of Westminster in September 2006 that was when I started to see the most significant changes in my life, in terms of education, my perspectives toward the world, my career, my attitude toward development and my self-esteem. I had opportunities to study with highly

qualified and experienced lecturers, and meet many people from different backgrounds and nationalities with whom Ive shared my thoughts, understanding and culture. Ive also learnt and understood many ways of life of the British people and culture, some of which Ive found very useful to apply in my own culture and my own practical life. This MA degree has helped me to contribute to the development of my country, where poverty and hunger are still the major concerns.

I wanted to gain a degree from the UK because of the many opportunities it would provide for me in the future. By successfully passing a Graduate Diploma programme at KICL I was guaranteed entry to a great university in London, and am now well on my way to achieving my goal of completing my Masters degree in the UK. I learnt many new things that would help me progress to university successfully, especially studying independently. Studying in London gave me the opportunity to live on my own and cope in a new environment by myself. I also had the chance to make some really good friends.

I came to the University of Westminster to expand my degree course first. I am studying in EDC Paris, a business school, and Westminster has allowed me to discover another way of studying. I chose this University because I thought it was the best way to meet my different goals, which were to discover another culture, another way of working, meet different people from everywhere (because London is a very cosmopolitan city), and finally because English universities are renowned for their way of operating. I am right now in New York City for an internship in the financial department of an American company. Everything I learned in London allowed me to succeed today (especially the way of working with people with different culture) and will allow me to succeed in my future. The University of Westminster is the perfect place to learn, improve in what you like and at the same time discover an amazing city. An experience not to miss!

I hadnt studied abroad before I came to London, but I was really impressed with the course. The lectures were very good, the business management part of the course covered a very wide range of topics, and I

recommended it to other people. One of the best things about Westminster is the fact that there are so many different nationalities there, both on the campus and in the halls of residence. You can learn so much about other cultures, and there are lots of different cultural activities organised by the Students Union.

Anjali Wanigasuriya, Sri LankaFashion Business Management MASelf-employed design manager and PhD researcher, Open University

Being in London was a great experience. Many people call it the complete city and now I know why. Its architecture, sights and sounds, multicultural activities, food and places to shop manage to offer everyone something good

to cherish and enjoy. I fell in love with London the moment I came and still rate it as my most favourite city outside India. The University offers various ways of showcasing your talents, and doesnt just concentrate on academics; it gave me lots of opportunities to develop. The course was very well structured it didnt go overboard by offering too many subjects, yet it covered all the right topics under each subject. We were also taught in a way that encouraged us to think and enjoy, rather than just mug up and not understand the subject. It gave me the freedom to develop my ideas on various topics.

Joyanto Mukherjee, IndiaInternational Relations and Contemporary Political Theory MADirector at Harkisan Mehta Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mumbai

At Westminster Business School I had a great social and cultural experience which has helped me to develop my communication and social skills. Being in central London is what initially attracted me to the University, and is

something that I still draw upon today when referring to my experience of working and studying within an established global market. I found the staff really friendly and helpful. They were always accessible and open to suggestions about the course. They understood the difficulties facing international students in particular and were always on hand to support you.

Sondos Effat, Egypt Marketing Communications MAAccount Manager, Fortune Promo Seven

I was really looking forward to living and studying in London, and it has been even better than I expected. Its like an entire world in one city there are so many things to do, so many possibilities, so many options,

that theres no limit to what you can achieve. And it is so multicultural in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Languages there are more than 80 nationalities.I was also very lucky, while I was at Westminster, to work as a Student Ambassador, so I was involved in a lot of events, explaining to students about what the University and the course was like, as well as talking to school pupils about how important education is it can really change your life. I kept in touch with my family and friends at home all the time some of them came over to see me as well but I was also able to make a lot of friends while I was there. There are so many events organised by the University and the Students Union that theres always an opportunity to go out and meet people.

These students take a broad range of subjects, and come from a wide cross-section of nationalities and professions, creating a vibrant and diverse community.

We have a long tradition of providing excellent teaching to the built environment professions, and a very strong research base which directly informs the teaching. Based at the recently refurbished Marylebone Campus, our central London location means that we have direct access to both our professional institutions and to practices.

    SCHOOLS

The holistic experience of being in a culturally rich, global and knowledgeable environment was the most enjoyable part of my time spent at Westminster. Being in the heart of London was also an asset in the process of learning. During the course

I was introduced to professionals from varied backgrounds and nationalities. This helped to increase my networking skills, and I now work on a wider base (from architectural to urban projects) with better sensitivity toward the built environment. Today Im pursuing a flourishing career in my specialised field, and Im associated with international organisations for the development of my home town.

SCHOOL OF ELECTRONICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCEThe School, located at the Universitys Cavendish Campus in the centre of London, is home to over 200 postgraduate students; around a fifth of those students are from a range of countries overseas. The School has over 70 full-time staff, more than 30 of who are engaged in research that was graded as of international quality in the last research assessment exercise.

The School has an active portfolio of knowledge transfer partnerships, research grants, and consultancies to a range of organisations particularly in health informatics, operational research, intelligent systems, parallel and distributed computing, semantic web, electronics and communications engineering. We offer placements in relevant industries to both large and small companies, and are particularly proud of our engagement with local employers in the city of London.

By joining us at Westminster you can be confident that you will receive an education that prepares you well for a career in IT or engineering, and equips you with the essential skills required to survive in a fast-paced industry.

My main reason for studying my MSc at Westminster was to advance my career in the telecoms industry, which was expanding rapidly in Nigeria at the time. But it was equally important to get a globally recognised qualification that

would give me more access to the job market around the world. One of the most enjoyable things about my time at Westminster was the chance to interact with and learn from so many individuals with such diverse backgrounds. It was also interesting to find that despite our different backgrounds we had a lot in common in terms of our interests, aspirations and challenges. My Masters has certainly opened up the global job market to me, and given me more options in terms of my role and location. I now work in the technology division of an investment bank in London.

I chose the University of Westminster for many reasons: its located in one of the worlds most exciting cities and offers many attractive and unique courses. The academic and administrative staff are very friendly and co-operative. I believe that

without their guidance, supervision and support my experience wouldnt have been the same. In addition, the teaching methods, facilities and multicultural atmosphere with students from all over the world are fabulous.

Faisal Alhoshan, Saudi Arabia Corporate Finance Law LLM

SCHOOL OF LAWThe School of Law at Westminster is one of the largest university law schools in the UK, with around 1,700 students, and is noted for a high level of research excellence. In the most recent research assessment, 85 per cent of the work was judged to achieve international standards of excellence.

The School is based in Little Titchfield Street, just five minutes walk from Oxford Circus. There are dedicated rooms for postgraduate Masters students and research students, and PhD students have their own small building in the same block.

The Library in the building has a well-stocked collection built up over many years, with more than 80,000 volumes covering law, social sciences, humanities and languages.

SCHOOL OF LIFE SCIENCESThe School of Life Sciences is located in the heart of London at the University of Westminsters Cavendish Campus, and provides a supportive and enriching educational experience for more than 2,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, underpinned by high quality teaching, research and practice.

The School has benefited from a recent 30m refurbishment programme, and as a Life Sciences student you will be able to use state-of-the-art facilities. You will also benefit from our Academic Tutoring Scheme, a programme of group tutorial activities to help you develop key skills and make the transition more easily into UK higher education.

Many of our courses are accredited by professional bodies, and the School has a strong research culture across all subject areas. We have a strong record of international collaborative research, with a number of projects involving scholars from all over Europe; our strong links with laboratories, industry and clinics enable us to bring professionals and practitioners into the classroom, and to run a regular and popular seminar programme.

I feel the Masters course in Medical Molecular Biology is one of the best courses the University has to offer, and combines the frontiers of biology with that of modern medicine. The school is highly experienced and takes personal interest in the learning objectives of each and every student. Even now, I still view some members of the school as role models, because of their commitment to their respective specialisation. My course learning acted as a foundation stone for me to complete my PhD studies on the role of RNA secondary structures in gene regulation at the University of Cambridge. I went on to become a Post Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, working on the relevance of DNA G-quadruplex structures in the human genome.

Also, I met very special and interesting people from all over the world who have become my best friends. I very much appreciated the fact that in class everybody was encouraged to critically engage with the topics that were presented. I decided to go to Westminster because I wanted to be at a university in the centre of London, one that was easy to commute to, but most importantly I wanted a course that was uniquely tailored for the career I

wanted. The best things about the course were the diversity of its content and students, the clarity of the structure and expected outcomes, the interconnectivity of topics such as law, economics and politics, and just how relevant the content was to current global situations, and how it could be applied within different contexts and countries. Being a specialist in the field of government is a rare achievement in the Arab world. I hadnt worked before starting the course, but the combination of high academic achievement and specialisation in a rare field gave me an edge over other, more experienced job candidates, and formed the springboard from which my career could take off.

The diversity of students enrolled in the University made class participation very interesting, worldly, and unique. If everyone was from the same country, the personal experiences shared during

the course would not have been the same. The small class sizes made it easy to get help and mentoring from my professors, who incorporated their field experiences into module lessons which made the lectures interesting and inspiring. My course was based in central London which made exploring the city easy. The diversity of foods, music, and art that you get in London is an experience that I could not get from the small town in Georgia that I moved from. And I can honestly say that I felt my course prepared me to work in the community nutrition job market. Many of the theories and concepts I learned during my studies at the University of Westminster have been useful for my current job position.

In one short year at Westminster Business School, I felt I was living in the world. It was a highly international environment and as a student, I experienced a balance between study and assignments, and between travel and part-time

work. Fellow students were diverse in interest and values, and this rich mix served as a reminder to me that there is so much we can learn outside of lectures and books and that there is a bigger purpose in going to a foreign university than simply to study. It is the balanced and blended approach to university studies that helped to open my eyes and heart to the world, and to be passionate about my personal and professional growth in a holistic way. It also got me into a premier financial management programme.

I very much enjoyed my time at the University of Westminster, both on the academic side and the social one. I remember the days I spent with my classmates in the library at Little Titchfield

Street researching case law and legal articles. It was a very rewarding period. My experience at the University helped me to develop my legal and interpersonal skills. Overall it was a great experience that, I believe, has greatly benefited my career. I also made many friends who I am in touch with regularly.

When I started my Masters in Tourism Management I realised that I had made the right choice. The course was designed to ensure high quality and direct relevance to industry, commerce

and the professions, and met my academic and professional development needs. My teachers were all excellent; they not only taught us about tourism but also helped us to be inspired, motivated tourism management professionals. The positive impacts after graduation were a pleasing career that I started soon after I returned to Turkey, and further development in my academic life as I went on to study for my PhD.

Professor Perihan Paksoy, TurkeyTourism Management MAHead of Tourism Management, Beykent University, Istanbul

Being a fully qualified doctor and having established a career in clinical research, I took an MBA at Westminster Business School with the intention of making the transition into the commercial environment within the pharmaceutical industry and thus obtain greater career satisfaction, decision-making and earning potential. I thoroughly enjoyed studying for the MBA. The modules have allowed me to develop strategic thinking, evaluate competitive and financial situations in the market and form a holistic view of business decisions. My advice to anyone doing an MBA is to enjoy it and to learn as much as possible, since the breadth and variety of knowledge gained will be of immense value in the commercial world.

The University of Westminster could be called a dream university for international students. Not only does it provide top-notch education in a country with centuries-old academic traditions, it is also conveniently located in the heart of London with immediate access to many places of interest, and it boasts generous scholarships to help students who are in need. The teaching staff are professional and friendly, and are always there to help a student whether its a struggle with finding a research topic, or simply directions to a canteen. I loved every bit of living the life of a University of Westminster student: from challenging myself on a daily basis with academic questions, to reading in one of Universitys rich and comfortable libraries, going out with my fellow classmates or doing various volunteer projects.

The Film and Television MA course gave me the chance to get to know the contemporary film industry, not only in UK, but also globally. Semesters One and Two provide a whole range of modules, from very theoretical cinematic subjects to industrial business issues. I chose both sorts of modules, and gained knowledge and also the ability to analyse and examine questions. This has been very important and helpful to me, both for studying and working.

The choice to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Westminster was an easy one to make, given the Universitys reputable status, particularly in the field

of business, which was complemented by its central location and close links to local and national business institutions. The level of support I received was superb, particularly in terms of research, and was further complemented by the facilities. The lively social activities provided ample opportunities to make new friends and network with students from all walks of life, as well as our esteemed faculty members. The MA in International Business and Management provided me with a holistic understanding of business operations, including management and HR. This understanding allows greater intuition when interacting with stakeholders in a business environment and provides an advantage as normally such skills are only derived from several years of experience.

Other sources of fundingMost students pay their fees themselves, or with help from friends and family. However, you may be eligible for private or government-backed funding or scholarships or for loan schemes in your country. For more information about other sources of funding that international students may be eligible for, we recommend the following websites:britishcouncil.org/learning-funding-your-studieseducationuk.org/scholarshipsukcisa.org.uk

DepositsFull-time international students holding an offer will be asked to pay a minimum 4,000 deposit, however you can pay your course fees in full. Once we have received and processed your payment we will send you a letter supporting your visa application. The Certificate of Acceptance of Study (CAS) will give full details of the course you are going to study and the amount you have paid in advance.

Tuition feesOur tuition fees vary depending on the level of study, subject and study options, and are subject to annual change. They can also depend on where you were living and what you were doing prior to studying at Westminster, as well as your nationality.

Some of our postgraduate courses have Home and Overseas tuition fee levels; most Home fee payers are residents of UK or other countries in the European Union, while most overseas fee-payers are from outside of the European Union. All applicants are assessed individually to find out which they should pay. To find out up-to-date information on course fees, visit our website at westminster.ac.uk/fees

Cost of livingAs an international student, its vital that you organise your finances well in advance both for your study costs and your living expenses so that your funding is in place before you arrive in the UK. After you have left your home country, it will be difficult to arrange financial support, and you cannot rely on being able to organise additional funding from the UK.

As a rough guide we recommend that you budget a minimum of 1,000 per month to cover costs including accommodation, food, travel and books. Its likely that you will have to spend more in the first few months to buy things such as cooking equipment and bedding. You can find more information, together with useful hints and tips on reducing costs, online at westminster.ac.uk/study/prospective-students/student-life-in-london/living-costs

Funding varies by scholarship type but includes full scholarships, tuition fee awards and fee discounts. We award scholarships on the basis of academic excellence, development potential and financial need, but you must have an offer of a place at the University before you can apply. Its important to note that we receive far more scholarship applications than we can fund, so please prepare alternative ways to pay for your study in case you are unsuccessful.

Scholarship application deadlines:For September start courses 31 MayFor January start courses 1 November

Postgraduate students based in central London can apply for a place in London halls, while Harrow-based students may apply for the on-site halls of residence. We have 300 rooms in University halls of residence for postgraduate students; all halls are self-catering, usually with single study bedrooms (there are a limited number of double rooms). They have laundry facilities and shared kitchens with microwaves, cookers and fridge-freezers. Bedrooms are generally arranged in groups of flats, most of which accommodate six students.

The rooms are furnished with bed, desk, wardrobe, bookshelves and chair. The rent which you pay includes all utility bills (heating, lighting, water and electricity and broadband). Rooms in halls cost approximately 110-200 per week. You can apply online for accommodation once you have a conditional offer.

In addition, London has a good supply of private rented accommodation and our student housing service Student Accommodation will give you free help and advice on finding a suitable place to live.

At first I could not believe that my University accommodation was going to be so central it was amazing to be able to stay just ten minutes away from Buckingham Palace or Big Ben. My room was very

cozy and homely, and I was able to share my student experiences with seven flat mates, all from different countries. The facilities were great, and the staff were nice people. After eight months on my course, I felt prepared to undertake all the challenges involved in language teaching and research, thanks to the magnificent teachers who were able to pass their knowledge onto us, and whose feedback and support helped us shape our knowledge, writing and critical skills.
