Pig Roast State Director’s Report I want to start by thanking everyone that came out and made this pig roast so successful. This years, 34th annual pig roast was held at the Jaycee Village and from the feedback we received from the residents it was one of the best ever. The menu included smoked brisket, baby back ribs, pulled pork, potato salad, slaw, ham and beans with corn bread, loaded green beans, corn, cheesy hash brown casserole, bread pudding, and lots of sugar free pies! We also had a keg of bud light on hand for anyone who wanted to cool off in the shade a bit. We really had a great team of volunteers this year and it made the event so smooth to the casual observer it might have even looked like we knew what we were doing. Seriously though the residents look forward to this event all year long and it really is a pleasure to be able to server them. Marshalls of Grandview (1105 W 1st Ave, Grandview Heights, OH 43212) smoked all of the meats for us and did an amazing job, we received more compliments than ever before on the quality of the food. Everyone is already talking about and looking forward to next year’s pig roast, and with good reason. I really can’t stress enough how much this single event brings so much joy to a group of people generally ignored by the community, be proud. Greg [email protected]

First Annual Convention Secretary Report

The first Jaycees annual convention was held in St. Louis, Missouri from June 17 to 19, 1920. The convention had 41 cities represented from Arkansas, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, West Virginia, and Washington. Henry Giessenbier, Jr. closed out the first annual convention with the following remarks:

"We have definitely launched a great institution into the world of progress. Let us hope that from this institution will emerge citizens of loftier ideals, higher privileges, greater opportunities, purer patriotism, broader ideas of service and greater capacity for happiness. It may then be that America will enjoy to the fullest extent the continental unity of devotion dedicated toward the up building of a greater American Republic."

This September, the National Convention is held in Detroit, Michigan. For more information on conventions and the history of the United States Junior Chamber, visit usjayceefoundation.org Ashley [email protected]

Junior Chamber International - USA National Conference “There are plenty of reasons why thousands of conferences come to Detroit year after year. For some, it’s the 4,700+ downtown hotel rooms or the 1,000 flights per day from 5 continents and 16 countries. But for us, it is the place for young entrepreneurs, for the makers, and the doers. It is a city that has seen it all, the good times and the bad. It is a city that is reinventing itself as "America's Comeback City". So we hope you join us to check out what Detroit has going on and to help us celebrate Competition Winners, TOYA Honorees, and help choose who will lead us in the 97th year of our organization!”

Ohio State football is just around the corner and by helping us park cars, you can get into any home game for free! The North Columbus has teamed up with CampusParc for the 4th year in a row to offer our members and guest this amazing opportunity as well as a great way to give back to the community. Everyone that comes and volunteers with us will not only receive a ticket into that day’s game but will also be contributing towards fundraising for the chapter. The bulk of the money raised from this even goes directly into our Thanksgiving Food Baskets project and will place food on what would otherwise be empty tables this fall. This year, we will be parking Buckeye Lot C (Ackerman Rd & Fred Taylor Dr) and will need 8 people at every home game. Everyone that volunteers will be fed large quantities of some really amazing tailgate food. On Saturday Sept. 3rd at noon buckeye nation will play host to the Bowling Green Falcons. With so much new and highly rated talent on the team this year, this will surely be a great game and set the tone for the rest of the season. I will also be chairman of the project for the first game and would like to give a rundown of how the day will progress for those that have not worked with us in the past. Schedule of Events for September 3

• 3:45am – Meet in the Buckeye Lot C • 4:00am – Sign In

2

• 4:30am – Orientation • 5:30am – Report to Buckeye Lot C • 5:45am – Catch up on Sleep in Car

or Have Breakfast and Socialize • 6:00am – Breakfast: Eggs, Bacon,

Sausage, Hash Browns, Orange Juice, Coffee, etc all made fresh in Cast Iron (the way God intended it)

• 8:00 am to Noon – Collect Fees and Direct Cars, Snacking, and Having a Great Time

When the lot is full or at noon, whichever comes first, we will return to the main staging area and turn in our equipment and have our earnings counted and verified against the number of tickets sold. After everything is accounted for, we will head over to the press entrance of the stadium where they will have our tickets waiting (must show ID). For the past 4 years we have sat in sections 2A and 2B, and these have been awesome seats. These are at the closed end of the shoe just under the overhang (out of the reach of rain, snow, and direct sunlight). For more information on this event or if you have any questions please contact me at (614) 206-1304. You can also find more information and register to volunteer for games at JayceeParking.com. Please note that we need 8 people for every game. If you sign up and do not show up you will not be offered this opportunity again. This year the Michigan game is home meaning 8 people will get to go with us for free! Volunteers positions for this game will be awarded to those that have the most accumulated time volunteered throughout the season. Greg [email protected]

JCI (Jaycee) Creed - C. William Brownfield, Author

We Believe:

That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life,

That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations,

That economic justice can best be won by free men through free

enterprise,

That government should be of laws rather than of men,

That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality, and

That service to humanity is the best work of life!
