Motherhood is a very high calling. There is no other relationship that can replace the love of a mother and a grand-mother. Women provide love, guidance, and influence to their children that is a distinct and invaluable love. Their loving shapes lives for a lifetime. We cannot earn love or merit love but we can give and share love. Love is a gift and love is a blessing. A mother’s love is rooted in giving of self. Love is the foundation of all life. And in giving, a mother receives love. It comes not always from the child, but always from God. Which is why we love our mothers. They have taught us to love. Mothers have given us the love they received from God, and have taught us to share it with one another. May we honor our mothers by giving and sharing the love. This day let us show our appreciation and love to all mothers for nurturing hearts, inspiring spirits and caring for families

Sacraments and Sacramental Experiences Sacraments are powerful moments of God reaching out to us. When we pay close attention to our thoughts and feelings while celebrating the sacraments, we can encounter God in ways that transform our lives: filling us with joy, showering consolation upon us, granting us clarity about a big decision. Both when we receive sacraments, and when we participate in celebrating sacraments that others are receiving, God can send us special graces that make His presence and His guidance evident to us. Being present at a Baptism, participating in a Mass where Confirmation is celebrated, witnessing an Anointing of the Sick, being present when the sacrament of Holy Matrimony is received, attending an ordination…all of these are special opportunities to hear God address us personally and directly. A hunger for the sacraments is building. Many of you are desiring sacramental grace like never before. Sac-ramental opportunities will return, and when access to the sacraments becomes available again, God might speak to us personally and directly in these experiences—if only we pay close attention in those moments. Here are some resources to help prepare to encounter Jesus—in the context of a personal, disciple relation-ship with Him—through sacraments and sacramental experiences: http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/sacraments-and-sacramentals/index.cfm https://watch.formed.org/the-sacraments-1 https://ascensionpress.com/collections/power-and-grace https://ascensionpress.com/collections/hands-of-grace-the-catholic-sacraments-in-american-sign-language https://store.mycatholicfaithdelivered.com/p-3671-foundations-liturgy-and-sacraments.aspx (free coupon code: Spring2020)

On November 30, 1980, Pope St. John Paul II issued a papal encyclical Dives in misericor-dia (Rich in Mercy) declaring that "Jesus Christ taught that man not only receives and experiences the mercy of God, but that he is also called to practice mercy towards others."

On April 11, 2015, Pope Francis issued a papal bull, Misericordiae Vultus (The Face of Mercy) whose opening words proclaim: “Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy. These words might well sum up the mystery of the Christian faith. Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth, reaching its culmination in him.” The Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy are actions we can perform that extend God’s compassion and mercy to those in need. The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They "are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs" (U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults). They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life.

The Corporal Works of Mercy include: To feed the hungry. To give water to the thirsty. To clothe the naked. To shelter the homeless. To visit the sick. To visit the imprisoned, or ransom the captive. To bury the dead.

The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to "help our neighbor in their spiritual needs" (U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults). The Spiritual Works of Mercy include:

To instruct the ignorant. To counsel the doubtful. To admonish the sinners. To bear patiently those who wrong us. To forgive offenses. To comfort the afflicted. To pray for the living and the dead.

Pope Francis’s prayer to Our Lady, Health of the Sick, to implore her protection during the coronavirus epidemic: O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you partici-pated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform our-selves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection, O

Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. Based on an ancient prayer, Sub tuum praesidium, actually the oldest hymn to Mary, the Mother of God.
