• 50s was about splendor and style while the 60s about racing and power

• 50s had bigger, taller, and more chrome while the 60s had smaller cars with bigger engines

• 50s had big cars with tail fins but the 60s had big cars with more horsepower

• 60s was the decade of the muscle car and pony car

• Pontiac GTO and Ford Mustang got their start

• Stock car and Drag racing were popular

Reasons For The Changes

• Suburbanization

• 50s where a time of family values and the 60s a time of freedom and individualism, sex, and a “do your own thing” attitude

• 50s where a time of prosperity and show the prosperity with large cars and chrome

• 60s was a time of conflict(Vietnam war) and freedom, muscle cars and pony cars offered that freedom and individuality

• Migration from south to big cities in the north, middle class families moved out of the cities to form suburbs

• United Nations headquarters in 1953

• 50s more modern while 60s is more futuristic

• 50s age of modernism

• 50s was formal and clean, lots of straight lines

• 60s was more earthy, wood tones, curves, and color
