If you’re a small office supplies company trying to compete against the huge web mega-sites that have sprung up over the past few years, you need to use every weapon available to you. Luckily there are some great ways to get publicity and promote your brand, many of them totally free.

Your own website
Every business should have their own website, that’s a given, but some people are put off by the cost, especially given the number of items they sell and the daunting task of keeping those up to date.
While it’s true that a full ecommerce solution could be expensive, there are cheaper ways to get started.
Maybe just display a few products and special offers? If you’re a small shop then you can use a website predominantly as a method of bringing more customers in, but you could also sell a few niche products.

It’s free to setup products on PayPal and collect payment for them, they just take a small cut of the purchase price. Also, there are a lot of “off the shelf” shopping carts that are easy to set up and will enable you to get going quickly.

A blog
A website blog is a fantastic way to publish news and special offers to people. To start with you won’t have many readers and it can put people off, but eventually it could become quite popular, so don’t shy away from it.
There is still a resistance to get on to Facebook by so many businesses. While it’s true that an awful lot of time is wasted posting and looking at pictures of cats, it can also be a brilliant business promotion tool.
You can easily share updates with your followers, publish news and promote special offers and competitions and you can even automatically post your website blogs to Facebook.
This is one of my favourite tools!You’ll be a busy bee at work, no time to waste on Facebook and
writing blogs so you’ll need to do something quickly that can get you results. Instagram is that tool.
Download it to your phone (there are versions available for Android and Apple phones), set up your username and then when you see something in your shop or store that looks interesting, take a snap and upload it.
For example, pop a “special offers” sticker on something you want to sell quickly and then snap it with Instagram. You can then automatically post this to Facebook and Twitter meaning you get social exposure with little fuss!
