1. Introduction
• Just as the name suggests, this technology is comprised of 5 major components.
• It utilizes Bluetooth & internet in order to communicate.
• 5 pen pc shortly called as P-ISM (Pen-style Personal Networking Gadget Package).
• Whole Set Is Connected To Internet Through Cellular Phone Function
• It is based on Low Cost Electronic perception technology (EPT).
3
2. History
• 5 Pen technology created in 2003 by Japanese technology company NEC.
• Its designer is Tour Ichihash.
• P-ISM was first featured at the ‘ITU Telecom world 2003 ’ held in Geneva, Switzerland.

3.1 CPU Pen
• The functionality of the CPU is done by one of the pen. It is also known as computing engine.
• Dual Core processor is used.
• Works with windows operating system.
• It is also applicable to android and Linux operating systems.
7
• There are four steps that nearly all CPUs use in their operation: fetch, decode, execute, and write back.
• Fetch involves retrieving an information from memory.
• After the execution write back operation simply writes back the results to memory.
8
3.2 Communication Pen• It offer technologies like:
1. Bluetooth
2. WLAN
3. Cellular phone function.
• Bluetooth mechanism is used for exchanging signal status information between two devices.
• Uses Wireless Local Area Networks (802.11)802.11 a
802.11 b/g/n
802.11 ac
9
• Connected to internet through cellular phone function.
• Its cellular network function offer a number of advantages over other solutions.
1. Increased Capacity
2. Reduced power use
3. Large coverage area
4. Reduced interference from other signals
10
3.3 Projector Pen
• The role of monitor is taken by LED Projector which projects on the screen.
• Depending on how far we are from a flat surface, this can be either adequate or very clear.
• The size of the projector is of A4 size.
• Thus it is gives more clarity and good picture
11
• Common display resolutions for a portable projector include
SVGA (800x600 pixels)
XGA (1024x768 pixels)
720p (1280x720 pixels)
1080p (1920x1080 pixels)
• Out of these Projector pen provides Resolution capacity of 1024 x 768.
12
3.4 Virtual Keyboard• This component works much like the
projected screen.
• It emits laser on desk which gives an alternative input mechanism.
• It analyses what we are typing according to the co-ordinates of the location.
• Not only this connect to our pc, but also our tablet, smartphone and much more devices.
13
3.5 Digital Camera• Probably the most important part of 5
pen applications.
• The camera is very small and lodges itself within the pen style gadget.
• It is useful in video recording , video conferencing simply as a webcam.
• Connected with other devices using same Bluetooth technology.
• Portable.
• 360 degree visual communication device.
14
Camera Pen
3.6 Battery & Mass storage• Is the most important part in the portable
type of computers.
• Usually batteries should be small in size and work for a long time.
• The type of battery used here is lithium ion battery.
• It comes with a battery life of 6+ (i.e. 6 days).
• For normal use it can be used for 2 weeks.
• Also the base includes mass storage for storing data's.
15
5. Merits
• It is convenient to use because of its portability. (Small and Compact)
• It support wireless technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
• Excellent battery backup.
• Touch and feel technology
17
6. Demerits
• It works on wireless technologies and therefore it has limitations of range.
• Gadget is very costly
• One of the components can be easily misplaced
• Projection surface should be flat for optimum usage.
18
7. Conclusion
• The communication devices are becoming smaller and compact. This is only an example for the start of this new technology. We can expect more such developments in the future.
