STANAG 4670 - DUO Training Requirements

• Designated UAV Operator• Lists skills by

– Subject knowledge areas– Task knowledge– Task performance

• Tailored to UAV type and role• Undergoing Ratification• Being translated into French• Public domain

Page 8: 5 NATO Activities

STANAG 4671 - USAR

• UAV Systems Airworthiness Requirements

• Fixed wing UAVs• 150 to 20,000 kg• Not stand alone – broad

Study 4685 - Human Factors and UAV System Safety

• FINAS exploring new topic• Agree objectives and

deliverables• Agree approach

– analyse UAV accidents

– understand HF performance

– make recommendations

Page 11: 5 NATO Activities

Sense & Avoid Functional Requirements

• Must consider separation provision & collision avoidance

• Critically dependent on CONOPS

• Ambient probability of collision

• Proposing TLOS = 5 x 10-9

collisions/flight hr • Safety validation needed

Page 12: 5 NATO Activities

How can NATO help?

• NATO is NOT a “Regulator” but….. • Standardisation promotes:

– interoperability– economy of effort– mutual trust

• Why not use our USAR as basis for civil “CS-UAV” ?
