moderating of well known retina specialists. It is interactive and fun!

or new ideas of techniques/instruments. Do not be shy. We want to hear you. We need this

Steve Charles, MD, one of the world’s leadingvitreoretinal surgeons, has developed manyof the techniques and devices used by vitreo-retinal surgeons worldwide. He has performedover 35,000 vitreoretinal surgeries, lecturedin 50 countries and operated in 25, delivered17 named lectures, and over 1,000 speakingtrips. He is the author of a leading textbook in the field which is published in 6 languages.He has authored over 174 articles in medicalliterature and over 50 book chapters.

He is a Fellow in the ACS and InternationalCollege of Surgeons and a member of theRetina Society, Macula Society, ASRS, ClubJules Gonin, ASCRS, AAO, American-EuropeanCollege of Ophthalmic Surgery, Euro-Lam, and the Dowling Society. He is on the Board of Governors of the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research.

Dr. Charles is on the editorial board of Retinaand a reviewer for Ophthalmology, Archives ofOphthalmology, American Journal of Ophthal-mology, and British Journal of Ophthalmology,writes a column for Retina Physician and is an editor for eMedicine.

He has received the Wacker Medal from the Club Jules Gonin, the Vitreous Society’sfirst Founders Medal, was inducted into theUniversity of Miami School of Medicine MedicalAlumni Association Hall of Fame, and wasnamed a top ten innovator of the past 25years by Ocular Surgery News. He is consis-tently listed in Best Doctors in America andBecker’s Top 34 Ophthalmologists in America.He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee.

After four years in engineering school, hecompleted medical school at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completedhis residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institutefollowed by two years as a Clinical Associateat the National Eye Institute (NIH), focusingon vitreoretinal surgery, angiogenesisresearch, and medical device engineering.

He is a mechanical and electrical engineerwith over 60 issued or pending patents. He isa consultant for Alcon Laboratories and theprincipal architect of the Alcon Accurus andAlcon Constellation Vision System. Alcon also acquired InnoVision, a company startedby Dr. Charles. The Alcon Accurus andConstellation product lines are derivatives ofInnoVision technology invented by Dr Charles.

He is the Founder of MicroDexterity Systems,which developed robots for dexterityenhancement for minimally invasive knee andhip replacement, spine surgery, and skull baseneurosurgery. MicroDexterity Systems wasacquired by Stryker, Inc. in 2009.

He is a cofounder, systems engineer, largestinvestor, and Chairman of CamPlex Inc., devel-oping advanced visualization technology forMIS spine, neurosurgery and trans-oralapproaches to head and neck cancer and hesits on the board of Zeroto510, a medicaldevice seed capital firm.

Timothy G. Murray, MD, MBA is currently the

Founding Director/CEO of Ocular Oncology

and Retina of Miami, Florida. Dr. Murray’s

early academic career was focused on the

development of an integrated Ocular

Oncology service beginning at the Bascom

Palmer Eye Institute, Sylvester Comprehen -

sive Cancer Center. In 2012, Dr. Murray

founded the Ocular Oncology and Retina

Center in Miami, Florida. Dr. Murray continues

as Tenured, Professor Emeritus in Ophthal-

mology and Radiation Oncology with the

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/Sylvester

Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Murray’s focus on founding the private

Ocular Oncology and Retina Center was

related to his ongoing pursuit of excellence

in clinical care particularly targeted on

advanced imaging and treatment tech -

nologies. Dr. Murray’s Ocular Oncology and

Retina Center continues to provide interna-

tional, national and regional care for patients

with life-and sight-threatening complex

eye disease.

Dr. Murray is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins

School of Medicine in the combined BA/MD

program in 1985, completed his Residency

and Chief Residency at the University of

California, San Francisco in Ophthalmology

and completed both a surgical and research

Fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular

oncology at the Eye Institute, Medical College

of Wisconsin. He expanded his health care

focus when he graduated with a Master’s in

Business Administration (MBA) in 2005.

He has published over 300 peer reviewed

articles and chapters in the field of vitreo-

retinal surgery and ocular oncology. Dr.

Murray has been recognized with Honor and

Senior Honor awards by the American

Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the

Association for Research in Vision and

Ophthalmology (ARVO), the Retina Society,

the American Society of Retinal Specialists

(ASRS), and the International Society of

Ocular Oncologists (ISOO).

Dr. Murray is an Associate Examiner for the

American Board of Ophthalmology and Vice

President of the American Society of Retina

Specialists (ASRS), Executive Committee

member of the Retina Society, and a member

of the Macula Society, Club Jules Gonin

and a Fellow of ARVO and ABO.

He has held key leadership positions in the

International Society of Ocular Oncology

(ISOO) including Program Chairman for the

International Congress of Ocular Oncology.
