Since the pandemic began in early 2020, United Way of the Midlands responded immediately by serving 15,000 people through our COVID-19 Response Fund, and we’ve been focused on helping communities respond, recover, reimagine, and rebuild ever since. parents demonstrated increased knowledge about their children’s development through school readiness and parent engagement programs funded by United Way.

participated in quality in and out of school time programs funded by United Way, and more than 90% of those students demonstrated progress on one or more of the following: grades, improved reading skills or attitude or progressing on time to the next grade.

elementary students were given a total of 10,000 books through Be a Book Bunny to help supportd summer reading and build their at-home libraries. These books are meant to mitigate the impact of summer learning loss and help students start the next year on track.
