Why is Water important ?Water makes up 90 % of a human body and so its very important for us in order to live. Without water no one can survive; water is important for everyone and everyone should have access to water easily.

Water is an issue in Egypt because not everybody has access to clean water. A huge problem is the imbalance between increasing water demand and limited supply. Also another issue is delivering clean water to everyone.

Water background in Egypt

There are some water-related organizations in Egypt run by the government and a few private ones, but they are not too influential. Instead, some Egyptian people are trying to help others gain access to clean water.

Drinking tap water in Egypt is not very healthy. It’s not very safe but most people have government funded filters that make the water clean. Unfortunately, the poor people don’t receive these filters, so they are more likely to get water-borne illnesses.

Is drinking water safe in Egypt ?

The Nile River is the longest river in the world; it’s over 4,100 miles long. The Nile is located in northwest Africa and flows through many different African countries including Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda,and Burundi.

What is the Nile ?

The Nile flows from south to north, which can be confusing to many because Upper Egypt is in the south and Lower Egypt is in the north. The Nile empties into the Mediterranean Sea through a huge delta.

● The Nile gave the Ancient Egyptians a place to catch fish

Why was the Nile Important Historically

One of the cons of the Nile is that long ago many floods were happening which was a huge issue for the ancient Egyptians because people were forced from their land. One of the pros of the Nile is that it makes the soil around it rich for agriculture. Also the Aswan Dam produces 90% of Egypt’s electricity.

The Aswan dam was constructed by Gamal Abdel Nasser in the 1960s. The main two reasons for building the dam was to control the floods and

generate more electricity.

What is the Aswan Dam?

As stated before, the dam generates most of Egypt’s electricity and it controls the floods. It’s very helpful because long ago floods used to destroy everything now things are more in control and they use the water more efficiently.

Why is the Aswan Dam important ?

One of the cons is that building the dam dislocated many of the Nubians and forced them out of their homes.

Ethiopia is a landlocked country in africa. One of the branches of the Nile begins in Ethiopia. The capital is Addis Ababa. Ethiopia contains lots of ethnic groups.

About Ethiopia

Ethiopia decided to built a hydro-electric dam that will limit the amount of water Egypt receives. Egypt was worried the dam would affect the amount of water the Egyptians received. The two countries couldn’t agree because Ethiopia really needs the electricity.

Since the water system is good but not for everyone, Egypt needs to find ways to address the inequality as it related to water. For example, the filters should be provided to everyone!
