    Table/Dining manners are theetiquettesused while eating. This includes theappropriate use of utensils too.

    Eating with etiquettes is like addingcolours to a plain diagram.

    Many table manners evolved out ofpracticality. For example, it is generallyimpolite to put elbows on tables sincedoing so creates a risk of tipping overbowls and cups.

    It is generally acceptable to rest your

    fore-arms on the table, though youshould take care to never rest yourelbows on the table.

    Always ask the host or hostess to beexcused before leaving the table.

    Do not stare at anyone while he or she iseating. It is considered rude.

    Never talk on your phone or text a friendat the table. If an urgent matter arises,ask host or hostess to be excused, andstep away from the table.

    Do not eat food with your fingers unless youare eating a bread, pizza, frenchfries.

    The fork may be used either in theAmerican (use the fork in your left handwhile cutting; switch to right hand to pick

    up and eat a piece)

    Or the Continental (fork remains in the lefthand) fashion -- either is now acceptable.

    The fork is used to convey any solid food tothe mouth.

    The knife blade should be placed on the

    edge of your plate when not in use. Theblade should always face inward.

    When you have finished eating soup, thespoon should be placed to the side of thesaucer, not left in the bowl.

    Keep your napkin on your lap.

    While at the table, it is never acceptable totake your napkin out of your lap. Whenleaving the table, place your napkin on

    your chair, not on the table. wet wipes or paper napkins should be used

    to clean the hands.

    Never lean across somebody elses plate. Ifyou need something to be passed, ask theperson closest to it. If you have to passsomething, only pass it if you are closest to it

    and pass it directly to them if you can. Salt & pepper should be passed together.

    Do not take food from a neighbours plateand dont ask to do so.

    You must not put your elbows on the table.

    fingernails.

    Try to eat all the food you are served. Glasses served in a wine glass or other

    stemmed-glass should be held at the stem.

    Always remember regular manners.

    Remember to say "please" and "thank you".

    The fork is held in your left hand and theknife is held in your right.

    If youre eating a dessert, your fork (if youhave one) should be held in the left handand the spoon in the right.

    When eating soup, you should hold yourspoon in your right hand and tip the bowlaway from you, scooping the soup in

    movements away from yourself.

    If there are a number of knives or forks, thenyou should start from the outside setworking your way in as each course is

    served.

    Drinks should always be to the right of yourplate with the bread roll to the left.

    When eating bread rolls, break off a piecebefore buttering. Use your knife only tobutter the bread, not to cut it.

    The cardinal rule of dining is to alwaysuse the right hand when eating or

    receiving food and never the left. Evena piece from the bread is broken usingthe right hand alone.
