waste-gas is further purified by an electrostatic precipitator. The use of a moving bed filter per- mits the use of a greater amount of cal- ciumaceous powder relative to the acid gases without increasing the electrical load on the elec- trostatic precipitator.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR COOLING A HIGH
TEMPERATURE WASTE GAS USING A JETTING BED,
FLUIDIZED BED TECHNIQUE
Richard Newby assigned to Westinghouse Elec- tric Corp
Robert E Schwartz, Michael R Keller assigned to John Zink Co
A method and apparatus for cooling of hot waste gases using a jetting bed, fluidized bed technique. A nozzle or plurality of nozzles inject the hot waste gases upwardly into a bed of solid particulate material contained in a housing, with the jet of hot gases fluidizing the bed and being dissipated therein without substantially dist- urbing the surface of the bed of solids. With use of a horizontally extending bed, a plurality of nozzles are spaced such that the jets of hot waste gases do not impinge upon one another. With use of a vertically extending housing, a single jet of hot waste gases may be used. The hot solids in the enclosure may be removed therefrom, cooled and returned, or heat transfer tubes may be pro- vided in the housing, out of the area of contact of hot waste gases, to remove heat therefrom.

WASTE HEAT RECOVERY APPARATUS
Kazuhiko Ito, Jun Yonehara, Yoshinari Tanigawa, Minoru Yamaguchi, Seto, Japan as- signed to NGK Insulators Ltd
A waste heat recovery apparatus is disclosed which recovers the waste heat of high tempera- ture exhaust gas discharged from a furnace. The apparatus includes a radiation body made of ceramic material, which is formed with a heat radiation surface arranged adjacent to an ex- haust gas outlet of the furnace, and directed toward the inside of the furnace. The radiation body has a plurality of regular channels allowing passage of the exhaust gas therethrough. Ex- haust gas passes through the channels and heats
the radiation body, and a substantial amount of the holding heat of the exhaust gas is radiated from the radiation surface toward the inside of the furnace, allowing an efficient waste heat recovery.

APPARATUS AND METHOD TO ADD KINETIC ENERGY TO A LOW PRESSURE WASTE GAS
FLARE BURNER
A flre for burning low pressure waste gas wherein kinetic energy is imparted to the gas in a device having a central conduit for the low pre- ssure waste gas and a plurality of radial arms sur- rounding the central conduit to which are supplied high pressure fluids at a steep upward angle to impart time-turbulence and tempera- ture for creating fl stand-up+ 2 +0 flare bur- ning substantially unaffected by wind. -+ RE

PURIFICATION OF EFFLUENT GASES
Michel G Drouet, Richard J Munz, St Bruno, Canada assigned to Hydro-Quebec
The disclosure describes a method and a system for treating gaseous effluents to remove im- purities therefrom, these gaseous effluents flowing out from a high temperature reactor, into which a particulate material is being fed. The method comprises directing the flow of gaseous efffuents counter-currently through the particulate material which is fed into the reactor, and independently controlling the particulate material feed rate and the velocity of the gaseous effluents so that particles in the gas feed are sub- stantially all trapped by the particulate feed material and are returned to the high tempera- ture reactor. Volatile materials may also be con- densed on the particulate feed material. The purified gaseous ef%ents are then allowed to exit. A system for carrying out this method is also disclosed.
