1. Use Teflon tape only on threaded plastic pipe connections. Many liquid or paste pipe sealing products contain compounds that may cause plastics to crack with time.

2. PVC brine pipe is recommended for use with these valves as it is non-corrosive and threads easily.

3. After the proper float setting has been determined and the height set, place the float rod guide close to the float (but not as to hinder float operation), adjust to position the float directly above the brine valve and tighten securely.

4. Position the assembly securely in the brine well and check to see that there is no interference with the float operation.

474 Safety Brine Valve SystemOur 474 Safety Brine Valve System incorporates the 474 air check assembly to provide higher flow rates and greater flexibility than traditional brine delivery systems. Featuring a 1⁄2” riser pipe, our 474 Safety Brine Valve System is capable of providing brine draw and refill rates up to two gallons per minute when used with the optional 1⁄2” elbow. The 474 Safety Brine Valve System can be used as a safety back-up float or as the primary brine shut-off valve depending upon which float assembly you choose.

The 474 Safety Brine Valve System consists of threecomponents which must be ordered separately:

1. 474 Air Check Assembly The 474 air check assembly is available in three lengths; all

risers are 1⁄2” in diameter. Please specify 48”, 30.5”, or 22.5” length when ordering. See order numbers below.

2. 474 Safety Brine Valve The 474 safety brine valve includes a 3⁄8” elbow with polytube

insert. An optional 1⁄2” elbow with polytube insert may be ordered separately.

3. 474 Float Assembly There are two float lengths available. The 9.5” (overall length)

float assembly is designed to be used as a safety back-up float and is attached by a pin. The 32” (overall length) float assembly is designed to be used as the primary brine refill shut-off. It is easily adjusted with two grommets to fit your system (not shown).

• 1⁄2” riser pipe• Higher flow rates-refill and brine draw up to 11⁄2 gpm with 3⁄8” elbow and 2 gpm with optional 1⁄2” elbow• Fits both 31⁄2” and 4” brine wells• Can be used as a safety back-up float or primary brine shut-off• Easily adjustable float setting• Components are air tested to ensure proper performance

Installation Guide

1. If an external flow control is used, install on the inlet side of the brine valve.

2. Use Teflon tape only on threaded plastic connections. Many liquid or paste pipe sealing products contain compounds that may cause plastics to crack with time.

3. Position float. Hand tighten the nut.

4. Place the float rod guide close to the float (but not as to hinder float operation), adjust the guide to position the float so float rod pin operates freely and tighten securely.

5. Position the assembly securely in the brine well and check to see that there is no interferencewith thefloatoperation.

NOTE: When brine valve is used as a safety float for timed brine systems use refill rates up to 10 gpm. If used as a primary shut off, use refill rates up to 5 gpm. Repeated float closures at high refill rates can cause “water hammer,” which may damage the plumbing. This brine valve is designed for salt brine only and will fit inside a brine well that is 5” diameter or larger.
