We will assume that you have done some basic embroidery, building on the Basic Stitches and Second Stitches classes. We’ll focus on some of Sue Spargo’s favorite stitches and the dimensional stitches in particular.

Crazy Wool Table Mat $50.00 with Beth Norris for beginners and beyond

WHO NEEDS SERVICE? IT’S WORKING JUST FINE!

Imagine this scenario: You know that you’re supposed to have your sewing machine serviced annually, so you locate the bobbin case and foot control, and begin to pack your machine into its carrying case. And then the thought flashes through your mind, “Do I REALLY need to do this? Am I spending money needlessly? Why DO sewing machine dealerships recommend annual service? Is it just easy money for them? Perhaps it’s not necessary….”. And you pause, staring at your machine. What decision should you make? Deferred maintenance is the #1 reason for expensive repairs. There are a lot of very small parts in a sewing machine, and these parts move at very high speeds. There is considerable friction wherever they contact one another. Without lubrication, these parts will wear at an accelerated speed, with two possible outcomes: 1. As a part wears, it may not fit tightly anymore, and your

machine will become noisy and lose precision. This can result in symptoms such as skipped stitches, broken needles, and burrs on the needleplate and hook.

2. Small metal particles from a wearing part can become lodged in the bearings. The mechanism may no longer turn – your machine may now have a bind. Identifying the location of a frozen part can be time consuming and repair may involve significant disassembly, such as removal of a main shaft.

Both of these possible outcomes can easily be avoided. Annual service is far less expensive than replacing key parts or performing major disassembly. It seems that every week we encounter at least one machine that requires extensive repair. In most cases, this outcome could have been circumvented with routine professional maintenance. When you bring your machine in for annual service, what work is performed? We call this a “C.O.A.” (Clean, Oil, and Adjust), and it includes: 1. All covers are removed. Lint, dirt and thread particles are

vacuumed out. The surface of every part is wiped clean 2. Your machine is professionally lubricated. Every internal

friction point receives a small amount of oil. This includes locations that a customer would be unaware of.

3. Burrs and rough edges are removed from key parts. 4. All timings and clearances are reset to original factory

specifications. 5. After reassembly, all exterior surfaces as well as the foot

control are scrubbed clean. 6. If your Bernina has outdated operating system firmware,

it will be upgraded to the most current version. 7. Tensions and feed balance are fine tuned. To be thorough, all of this work requires several hours to complete. We believe that a “C.O.A” is a significant bargain for the money. We hope this provides you with confidence to put an annual service date on your calendar. Your machine will return performing excellently, and money will be saved for many years into the future. Larry Delceg – Service Department

You will learn to serge, gather and roll hem a quick apron and see how easy a BERNINA serger is to use! Pattern is included in the class fee! Don’t have a serger? Try one out in this class.

Do you own this “must have” serger book?
