GENERAL INFORMATIONOBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:• Determine the maternal risks associated with preterm birth• Assess the bacterial environment to which mothers and infants are exposed• Identify the various causes and presentations of seizures in the neonate• Determine the various contributing factors to the development of chronic lung disease in newborns• Assess controversies regarding the management of patent ductus arteriosus in infants• Determine best practices in assessing issues related to blood transfusions in newborns• Examine early life influences resulting in adult diseases• Appraise the developmental outcomes of neonates at school age• Compare the pathophysiology of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia in newborns• Recognize neonatal respiratory conditions associated with pulmonary hypertension• Examine the potential role of stem cells therapy in neonatal conditions• Update the indications for the use of caffeine in the newborn

DETAILS OF WORKSHOPMorning lectures will be 30 minutes in duration followed by discussion periods. Workshop sessions will be 60 minutes in duration and will include discussions and practical demonstrations. The discussions and demonstrations are informal sessions in which participants may directly interact with the faculty. This provides an opportunity for the practicing clinician to discuss in detail their own unique problems and clinical experiences. Each discussion/demonstration group will be limited to 25 - 30 participants.
