WHAT IS RENCON?

Created in June 2016, volunteers from different walks of life came together

to make Rencon, a place where comic convention culture can expand and

cultivate in southern King County. One of the big things that separates

RenCon from other "larger" conventions is that we run a TRUE family-friendly

convention. We promote an affordable, family-friendly environment, so that

anyone of any age is guaranteed to have a good time.

Our awesome group of volunteers include artists, theater buffs, web

designers, photographers, pod-casters, social media managers, CEO’s,

mothers, father's, and students. In 2016 this rag tag group of passionate

professionals put together a first year event that drew over 1,500 people

and had 98% positive feedback from guests, vendors, & attendees. In 2017

we stepped up our game by re-branding, re-marketing, and getting

involved local in the community. With these efforts we grew our

audience both on and offline. In 2017 our attendance doubled to 3000

attendees and the positive feedback remained high. This year we are back

at it again planning an even bigger and better celebration of comic books,

films, art, video games, cosplay, and technology at the newly

built contemporary styled Interurban International Hotel.

Fandom events are huge! 85% of all people identify as fans of something

represented at our conention.

63% of super fans who attend at least three fandom events per year spend

over $500. 

According to an Eventbrite survey: men prefer comic, podcast, and gaming

conventions, while women tend to gravitate toward fantasy, sci-fi, and anime

events. Rencon covers all these categories!

COMMUNITY IMPACT

Attendance & Demographics- Rencon attracted 2,700+ attendees over two days

in 2017. Our crowd spans all ages (the largest contingent is between 21 and 40),

and is primarily local (83%). Rencon’s audience is close to a split between men and

women; 46% women and 54% men. The average income bracket of attendees is

around $35k-$60k. Rencon also attracts a high diversity than average tourist

population compared to similar events in Seattle. 

Cultural Impact — Rencon has become a homegrown success story, and a

cultural phenomenon. Each year, our event is attended, recorded, tweeted,

Periscoped, Live Streamed, Snap Chatted and posted to YouTube and Facebook,

generating massive brand recognition long after the event concludes.

Economic Impact-The impact of the event is felt far beyond Downtown Renton.

It’s felt on the MAX, in bars and in restaurants - which create new menu items and

offer nerdy deals, and in sold-out hotels throughout the city.

MEDIA PLAN

Rencon’s marketing plan covers promotion online and offline. Here are some metrics from last year’s strategy & our plan for 2018.

2017 stats 

   • 99.2k tweet impressions on Twitter.    • 25.7k organic reach on Facebook.    • 50.5k in the last 2 years visitors on our website.

Offline Rencon had representation at:

   • Renton River Days - 35k over 3 days.        •  Emerald City Comic Con - 90k over 4 days.    •  Sakuracon - 25k over 3 days.

2018 Marketing Plan

   • .Event participation and promotion at ECCC, Renton City Retro,       Renton River Days, AubrunFest, & SummerFest.       •  Printed Ad in GO ESCAPE! USA Today's 2017 Travel Summer Guide that will be                 distributed to over 5,000,000 travel enthusiasts & will be available for pick up at                   newsstands, airports ( via Hudson News ), bookstores, Wal-Mart, CVS, 7 Eleven, etc.      •  Rencon Cover photo for Renton Business Directory. 15k copies go out to local hotels         businesses. 

   •  Digital marketing campaigns that target over  3,200,000 people in the PNW who are          interested in family activities, cosplay, comics, & video games.     We will also be partnering up with the 501st in a fun way with  Storm Trooper clean upsthat will happen a few times over the summer in Renton.

   •  Promotion at Westfield Mall.  (200,000+ foot traffic) per week.       *See additional packet
