Welcome to £40k in 40 days!
In 2019 Challengers is celebrating their 40th birthday and we are looking to end the year with a bang! With just a few months left to hit our fundraising target we really need your help and so we are asking our incredible corporate supporters to help with the launch
of our exciting but ambitious campaign to raise £40k in 40 days and we hope you are up for the challenge!
Not to worry, you are not expected to raise the entire £40,000! But together with all our corporate supporters we can reach our target.
To break this figure down, if 80 supporters were to raise £500 this is only £12.50 a day!
We will be there to support you every step of the way, with lots of ideas, materials and even a ‘roadshow’ that will be visiting, promoting and supporting all our participants.
To get you started we have created this pack, filled with lots of ways you can help us and we can help you, from fundraising ideas to fun challenges and even some events! The pack is designed to help you along the way and to give you any additional tools if you need them. Of course, this pack is only a guide and we are excited for you to use
your own imagination, contacts and skills to support us.
If you have any questions, require fundraising materials or you are stuck for ideas, please do not hesitate at any time to get in touch. We would be delighted to help you.
Thank you so much!

Accumulator Challenge
Back for a second year, the extremely popular Accumulator Challenge will form part of our 40 day campaign in 2019!
This year we are giving companies £40 to turn in to as much money for Challengers as you possibly can! You can be as creative as you would like with your fundraising, as long as it’s safe and legal!
The Accumulator Challenge is an excellent team building opportunity and a great way to engage staff. It’s a chance to use your business skills and work together as a team to come up with creative and innovative ways to raise as much money as possible. Take a look at some winning ideas from last year!
This challenge finishes with the £40k in 40 days campaign on the 6th December, and we’ll be celebrating everyone’s achievements at the Business Club Event at Loseley Park on the 12th December.
We’ll also be presenting prizes to the company who raises the most money through the Accumulator Challenge and the one who comes up with the most innovative fundraising idea! Good luck!
BEST Business Group raised £715 last year by raffling off
their £50 note.
RBS raised £500 by organising a Halloween dress up competition, a tombola and samosa sale! They also go their fundraising match
funded for an additional £500 added to the pot.
Four teams at ramsac raised £1469 by washing cars, running a cinema and poker night and running a
weekly hot lunch scheme!
Vail Williams raised £332 by running a bake sale and a prize
PSFM raised £273 by running a Challengers Tuck Shop.
If we could, we would turn the world orange! On scheme our play workers all wear orange and for the children and young people this colour has become synonymous with feeling happy and safe.
We like to celebrate this colour in all its glory for one day a year! Challengers HQ had their ‘Orange Day’ and celebrated by wearing orange outfits, eating yummy orange treats and even an ‘orange themed quiz’!
Your ‘orange day’ can be as extravagant as you like, you could include a raffle, a costume competition or simply make a donation for taking part!
This is a fantastic way to raise vital funds for Challengers, spread awareness of the importance of inclusive play and celebrate what Challengers means to you!
Wearing my orange t-shirt
is almost like wearing a
superheroes cape. I feel
ready to do whatever it
takes to make a
difference to the lives of
Challengers’ young people
and their families
– Alex Hubbard, Office Manager Challengers
The colour orange will
always be special to
me. The young people
feel safe when they are
greeted by a sea of
orange, it’s amazing that
a colour can do that.
– Sophie Hansen-Reading,
Project Manager
Of course we are on hand to support you with organising this day! We can supply you with balloons, buckets and
banners to help you embrace the wonderful colour orange! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can help you.
Orange Day embraces everything that Challengers is about - it’s us coming together to celebrate the importance of what we do and spreads joy throughout the team #EverythingIsOrange

Food is always a fundraising winner!
Bake sales are an excellent way to get the whole team involved. At Challengers we often run a ‘Bake Off’ competition that runs the length of the series. We have some baking inspiration for those that would like to get involved - just ask for us to send you our ‘Bake for Play’ pack, where we have recipes, cake toppers, and bunting.
Throughout the year the staff at Challengers also take part in events. This year our very own Trust Fundraiser, Marcus ran his ‘Street Snack’ stall to help with his fundraising. He raised an incredible £110 over a few short weeks. It is a really easy fundraising activity and we are sure would be popular with your fellow colleagues.
Bake For Play
In addition to baking and tuck shops we know of other businesses organising:
Baked Potato Days
Nacho Wednesdays
Bacon Butty breakfasts
We are really excited to have spaces in the Santa in the City event this year. Join thousands of Santas and take the streets of London this December for London’s iconic Santa in the City. You can run, jog or walk around the 5k course.
Starting on the north side of the Millennium Bridge, the route will take you over the Thames where you will see the glistening lights of the Shard and Tower Bridge. Next you will run past Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Borough Market towards the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. The final part of your journey ‘Home for Christmas’ will cross over Southwark Bridge towards the Christmas bells of St Pauls Cathedral to finish at St Peters Hill. An iconic route for an iconic event.
To cover the cost of the spaces, we are asking for a £10 registration fee and a £50 (or more!) fundraising ask per person to take part. Your Santa suit is included!
You will receive one-to-one support from a dedicated fundraiser!

Fundraising Ideas
My daughter Eleanor, who is five-and-a-half, has been attending Challengers since she turned four (as soon as she was allowed to!) and she absolutely loves it. Eleanor has complex needs - she has severe learning disabilities and autism, and needs one-to-one care. She can’t communicate and needs help in everything that she does.
But this doesn’t stop her having fun, and she really has a fantastic time whenever she attends a Challengers play session. She gets really excited when we arrive and marches straight through the doors without a back-wards glance, and when we collect her at the end of the day she’s usually in a really good mood from all the fun she’s had.
Challengers means an enormous amount to our family - and many others like ours.We know that when Eleanor attends she’s having the best day that we or anyone else could possibly give her, in a safe environment where she will receive the care she needs.
That in turn allows us to relax and breathe - and focus on doing things that aren’t usually possible when we have Eleanor with us. This could be as simple as going shopping or out for a coffee - things that can often be very hard for the families of special needs children. In particular, it allows us to focus our attention on Eleanor’s little sister, and gives us all a bit of a break from the challenges of caring for Eleanor.
Now that we have found Challengers we couldn't live without it, and I hope that you will consider supporting such a much-needed and appreciated cause.
- Eleanor's mum
