TREASURES OF THE ROYAL COURTS: TUDORS, STUARTS AND THE RUSSIAN TSARS9 March – 14 July 2013Supported by the Friends of the V&A

The V&A reveals the majesty of the courts of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I to Ivan the Terrible and the early Romanovs in a major exhibition celebrating 500 years of exchange between Britain and Russia. Comprising more than 150 objects, from royal portraits, jewellery and luxury goods to processional armour and heraldry, Treasures of the Royal Courts chronicles the close relationship between the English monarchy and the Russian Tsars.

At the heart of the exhibition is a showcase of spectacular silver given to successive Russian Tsars, on exclusive loan from the Moscow Kremlin Museums. Highlights also include a rarely shown portrait of Elizabeth I and the legendary ruby-studded Drake Star, providing a breathtaking insight into the ritual and chivalry of the royal courts.

LIGHT FROM THE MIDDLE EAST: NEW PHOTOGRAPHYUntil 7 April 2013The Porter Gallery

The fi rst major exhibition of contemporary photography from and about the Middle East, Light from the Middle East: New Photography features over 90 works by some of the most exciting artists from across the region.

Photographs by 30 artists from 13 different countries showcase a range of creative and sophisticated responses to the social challenges and political upheavals that have shaped the Middle East over the past 20 years. This groundbreaking exhibition covers a wide range of techniques and subject matter, from photojournalism to staged and digitally manipulated imagery, presenting multiple viewpoints of a region where collisions between personal, social, religious and political life can be emotive and complex.

This exhibition has been made possible through theestablishment of the Art Fund Collection of Middle EasternPhotography at the V&A and the British Museum

The V&A has been given unprecedented access to the David Bowie archive to curate the fi rst international retrospective of the extraordinary career of David Bowie - one of the most pioneering and infl uential performers of modern times. David Bowie is will explore the creative processes of Bowie as a musical innovator and cultural icon, tracing his shifting style and sustained reinvention across fi ve decades. More than 300 objects will be brought together for the very fi rst time, including handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, fi lm, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own instruments and album artwork.
