The ROSARY …and celebrating the Assumption of Mary
Written by Dan Fandrey – Reprinted from the St. Francis de Sales bulletin, August 10, 2014
This coming Friday, August 15th, (Editor Note: 2019 date is Thursday, August 15th) we celebrate the Marian feast of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. Although it’s a very old feast day in the Catholic Church (dating back to the sixth century), it wasn’t until November 1, 1950 that Pope Pius Xll, exercising papal infallibility, declared “that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was ASSUMED BODY AND SOUL INTO HEAVENLY GLORY.” As a dogma of our faith, the Assumption is a required belief of all Catholics. Anyone who publicly dissents from the dogma, as Pope Pius Xll declared, “has fallen away completely from the Divine and Catholic faith.” The Feast of the Assumption is a Holy Day of Obligation. It also is the fourth of the five Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary: 1. The Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ; 2. His Ascension into Heaven; 3. The Decent of the Holy Spirit; 4. THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY INTO HEAVEN; 5. The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.Remember, you and your family are always invited to join in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.
